When Zac Met Jack

Nikki leaned back in the hospital bed, as she breathed in oxygen from a self-held tube. She thought of how she had been in this exact same position seven, almost eight years ago. Although this time was proving to be more difficult and tedious.

She had been in labour since three that morning; it was now ten thirty at night, twenty hours and thirty minutes of labour. The twins were giving her hell; her son’s did not want to grace the world with their presence.

Nikki figured with all the crap she had craved during this pregnancy, she would not want to come out either. They were on too good a thing in there. Nikki wanted them out, they would come out if it were the last thing she ever did. Enough was finally enough.

It was two hours later; Nikki was finally fully dilated and ready to start pushing. After twenty-two hours and thirty minutes of labour, Nikki was ready to just curl up and die and say fuck it. She was bone weary exhausted.

The twins were supposed to be born on April the thirtieth, but instead it looked as if the twins were going to be born the first of May 2015. You could tell the boys were going to end up being as stubborn as she was. They were not even born yet and already she knew they had surely inherited one of her less then desirable traits.

She knew she was having a set of boys. She wondered if she would ever receive the special gift of a little girl. She had three sons, at least when they decided to show themselves she would. However, she did not have the one thing she wanted, which was a daughter.

Daniel winced, as Nikki squeezed his hand, as the Doctor told Nikki to push down hard. Nikki continued to huff, pant, scream, and curse Daniel. Nikki squeezed his hand, squeezed it especially hard after feeling a particularly bad contraction. She had then pushed down.

It was a couple of moments later, after the Doctor had told Nikki to pause, as the head of the first twin had crowned, that a loud cracking noise echoed throughout the room. Daniel let out a pained yowl.

Nikki looked up at her husband in shock at the sound that had just issued from his mouth. She noticed the hand she had been holding, was now swollen, as well as looking misshaped. The Doctor had a look of disbelief on his face, as he told Daniel, “Mr. Radcliffe I think she’s broken your hand.”

A look of horror crossed Nikki’s face, before she let out another scream and started to push again when the Doctor told her to. After a couple of more hard pushes, the first twin’s shoulders were free. The Doctor told Nikki to push down once more, harder then she had before.

Nikki screamed at the top of her lungs, as her body shook with immense pain. She wanted to die. The Doctor called out in encouragement, “Come on Nikki, you’re doing wonderfully, one last extra hard push and your first son will be born.”

She did as she was told, sobbing as she pushed down hard. Daniel was supporting her, but did not give her his other hand, he now knew better. Both Nikki and Daniel froze at the sound of their son’s cries.

The Doctor had Daniel cut the umbilical cord, before handing the baby to a nurse to clean and checked over. Nikki then screamed again, as instructed to start pushing again. The Doctor informed her now that first twin was free, his other twin would follow much quicker and easier.

Nikki did not believe a word coming out of the Doctor’s mouth. It was easy for him to talk, but did he actually have any experience of pushing something the size of a watermelon out of an opening the size of a lemon. She damn well knew he did not, the prick he was a man, what did he know.

Daniel cringed, clutching his hand, as if knowing what his wife was thinking, as she eyed the Doctor. He then grimaced as Nikki shrieked something fierce at him, he did not catch it all, only the part where she threatened to break his other hand for him.

The Doctor had to stifle a smirk, when he saw the look of terror that crossed the other man’s face, at the threat issued by his small wife. The Doctor could not believe she broke her husband’s hand. On the other hand, he could understand that Nikki was obviously at her wits end, after almost twenty-three hours of labour.

The Doctor told Nikki to stop pushing, as the second twin’s head had finally crowned. Nikki sobbed in relief; she knew it was almost over. She pushed again after the Doctor had adjusted the baby’s head.

Nikki pushed down hard, leaning forward as she did. Her hair was soaked with sweat was sticking to her face and her forehead. She lay back and relaxed, as the contraction died down, only for another to hit her a few seconds later.

The Doctor called, “Okay, there is his shoulders. Not long now Nikki, your almost there, I promise.” Nikki had tears and sweat running down her cheeks, as she pushed down hard. Her screams were blood curdling, echoed off the walls of the room and echoed down the hallway.

Nikki rested a moment, before she pushed one last time, so hard she thought she was going to split in half, from the strain and immense agony. She sobbed, as the loud wailing of her other son echoed off the walls.

Daniel cut the last and final cord. This only left Nikki to push the after birth out, before she was done and it was over. She let out a strained grunt, as the after birth released from her, officially ending her labour after twenty-three hours.

While two of the nurses were helping to clean Nikki up, Daniel went to see what the other nurses and the Doctor were doing to his son’s. The Doctor told him, “Mr. Radcliffe, I suggest you go and inform your family and friends. The twins will be ready when you return.” Daniel nodded and left.

He walked out into the waiting room and met by eleven different pairs of eyes, eager to know more. Daniel beamed widely and said, “I have two sons.” Everyone got up to congratulate him, although Elijah, Amanda and Brittany held back slightly. They could not help but feel it should have been Zac standing receiving all of those congratulations and not Daniel.

Elijah asked, “That’s great and all, but what about the mommy, how is she doing after twenty three hours of labour?” Daniel smiled slightly and nodded, “She’s exhausted, but fine.” He added, “Anyway, I’m going to have to go and get my hand x-rayed.” He held up his hand for them to see.

Daniel cringed and told them, “Nikki may have broken my hand it looks pretty much like she has. The Doctor seems to think she has. So I’m going to go and get it seen to, after I’ve seen my son’s.” He then turned to leave and headed back into the room Nikki was in.

When Daniel was gone, Rupert snorted and said, “Bloody hell, I can’t believe she broke his hand.” Emma giggled and commented, “Friend or not, he most likely deserved it. You men can be insensitive prats at times. Like come on, oh my god, twenty three hours of labour, I think I’d be more inclined to break more than your hand, Rupert.”

Elijah, Amanda and Brittany had to stifle their smirks. They liked Emma she was great. She often talked with Amanda and Brittany. However, Amanda and Brittany found Bonnie to be stuck up. They could tell Nikki and Bonnie could not stand each other.

With Daniel being the typical male that he was, he was oblivious to it. Although they had to hand it to Rupert, he had noticed as well. Rupert was nothing like Ron Weasley. Rupert was quite sharp when he had to be.

Elijah and the girls really liked Emma and Rupert. They were pleased when Rupert had told them that he and Emma would be moving to LA, as they wanted to start making Hollywood films. Harry Potter was over, now they wanted to branch out and take their careers in different directions to what it was right then, meaning they wanted to play the adults that they are.

Bonnie sniped, “I cannot believe she broke his hand, could she be more brutal.” Before any of the others could blast her, the two people who everyone least expected to blast her, did.

Emma walked up to her, really getting in her face and spat, “You’ve never liked Nikki, just because she has something you want, or should I say someone. You’re jealous as hell, that it isn’t you in that room with Daniel, having just given birth to his twin son’s.”

Rupert glared at her and added, “Get over it Bonnie. You are not Ginny Weasley and he is not Harry Potter, just as I am not Ron Weasley and Emma is not Hermione Granger. It was pure fantasy and magic made for books and movies, to entertain and tap into the imaginations of children.”

He concluded angrily, finally at his wits end with the younger woman’s jealousy “This is real life. Get the hell over yourself. Get your head out of the clouds and your ass and grow up, damn it.”

Bonnie was looking at Emma and Rupert, as if they had just violently slapped her, Rupert especially. He had always been like a brother to her, on and off screen. She could not believe they were taking Nikki’s side over her own.

Elijah spoke up, “Did ever occur to you that you’re not the only one who is suffering because of Nikki and Daniel’s marriage.” He added, “We know who Jack’s real father is. I know he is still in love with Nikki and is stuck in a marriage he does not want. So get the hell over yourself, as I’m certain his pain and need are worse than your own.”

Emma and Rupert turned to Elijah and Emma asked, “Can I and Rupert talk to you, Amanda and Brittany in private?” Elijah and the girls nodded. Elijah led them to a deserted corridor. Once there, Emma said, “Is Zac Efron Jack’s dad?”

Rupert added, “I think it’s obvious. You just have to look at the little guy and you can see Efron shining out of him. For example, I saw Hairspray that you guys were in with Nikki and Efron. And he was one hell of a singer and dancer he was even a brilliant actor.”

Emma added, “Jack has all of those talents in spades. I suppose the fact his mother is just as talented as his father tends to give him double the talent.”

She added, “Also, Jack is beautiful, even at such a young age; imagine how beautiful he’s going to be when he reaches his teens. He’s inherited those looks from Zac.”

Rupert smirked and commented teasingly, “Admit it, you like Efron.” Emma mocked glared at him and commented in return, “Yeah, he’s hot and one hell of an actor. However, he is not ginger or you. So you can snap out of that jealousy of yours before it has time to really set in.”

Amanda and Brittany placed a hand over their mouths as they laughed. Elijah turned to Rupert and smirked, as he commented slyly, “Well, she sure told you Goldie locks.” Rupert glared and said, “Damn it, I hate that name.”

Amanda said between giggles, “That’s nothing. He calls Zac pretty boy. Zac hates it like you hate the name he has come up especially for you. You should feel honoured, it’s not very often he’ll give someone a nick name like that.”

Emma and Brittany giggled at the sour look of disbelief on Rupert’s face, while Elijah’s smirk widened devilishly. Rupert cleared his throat and said, “Well, we best be getting back, I’m sure Daniel will be coming out to let us know when we can see the twins.”

The others laughed knowing exactly what he was up to. Rupert ignored them and walked on a head, leaving them to follow behind him, Laughing and giggling the whole way.

Ten minutes after they returned, they saw Nikki’s, parents, who had Jack with them, along with her brother and Daniel’s parents exiting the room, Bonnie was nowhere in sight. They had not honestly been expecting her to be. Rupert and Emma knew she would have gone off to sulk and lick her wounds.

Nikki's family left, taking Jack with them, after nodding and saying their goodbyes to the others, and informing them that they would be back tomorrow so that Jack could visit with his mother.

Daniel’s mother replied to their unasked question. “Bonnie left, I suspect she didn’t want to see the twins, nor did she take too kindly to what the three of you said to her.” She gestured to Emma, Rupert and Elijah.

Elijah said, “I’m sorry, but she was way out of line. Nikki’s has not done anything, except marry and have your son’s children. That is childish and petty.” He added, “Jack’s father, he’s still in love with Nikki, but do you see him kicking off and making snide comments, I think not.”

Daniel’s father commented, “Jack’s father is that Efron boy, the actor who was in that movie with you three, isn't he?” He gestured to Elijah, Amanda and Brittany. All three nodded.

Elijah said, “You can’t tell anyone, Nikki doesn’t want Zac to know, which in my opinion his wrong. He has the right to meet and know his son, it’s cruel.”

They all turned when Daniel called out quietly to them. “Emma, Rupert, you guys, along with Elijah, Amanda and Brittany can come in and visit with Nikki and the twins. However, the Doctor said you could only have fifteen minutes, as Nikki needs to sleep. It was only ten, but I and Nikki managed to get him to agree to fifteen.”

Daniel’s mother said they were going to go home and get some sleep, but would be back tomorrow. Daniel nodded and then led Rupert, Emma, Amanda, Elijah and Brittany into the room that Nikki was in with the twins.

They all gathered around the bed to see a sleepy Nikki holding two babies, one in each arm. They all quickly noted that the very small tuff of hair on top of both babies’ heads was the same colour as Daniel’s.

Nikki smiled sleepily at them and said, “Why don’t you come closer and get a real look at them?” They nodded and came closer so they could see the twin’s features. They noted that the twins had Nikki’s skin tone, mouth and her ears; the rest was all from Daniel.

Daniel looked down at his son’s and said quietly, “I’m seriously hopping they get Nikki’s brown eyes. Jack is an absolute spit and has Zac’s blue eyes, I think it only fitting that our children look more like her this time around.”

Elijah commented, “It seems Zac’s blue eyes are very dominating in his children. Layla and Michelle inherited them as well. “Amanda chuckled quietly and added, “There’s no escaping them.”

Brittany added, “Those stunning blue eyes of his will be carried on though Jack, Layla and Michelle. So yeah, I think it is about time someone inherited Nikki’s lovely eyes.”

Nikki asked, “How is he doing?” Elijah commented, “He’s going to start working on his latest movie in two weeks. He is working with Amanda, Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor, Jimmy Marsden, Nicole Kidman, Rene Zellweger, Natalie Portman, Julie Walters, Cillian Murphy and Liam Neilson. It going to be an all start cast, it’s going to be a romantic comedy.”

Daniel commented, “Whoa, that’s one hell of a cast and all of them huge Hollywood heavy weights, Liam Neilson especially.” Amanda smirked, “It should be interesting, seeing as it is I who is going to be playing Zac’s love interest. We’ll soon see if he can kiss as good as he looks.”

Nikki’s eyes widened, she then started smirking and commented, “Good luck with that, you’re going to need it. It is a good job you are engaged to Elijah his best friend or else you would end up falling for his charms. First Vanessa and then me, how else do you suppose I ended up with Jack.”

Brittany joked, “I know exactly what you mean. I only kissed him twice in Hairspray very briefly, but it was enough to have me weak at the knees. He is one hell of a kisser it really is amazing. Seriously If I hadn’t been interested in Curtis, then I would have seriously tried to make a play for him myself.”

Emma was smirking, as Was Rupert and Elijah. Daniel’s smile looked uncomfortable, while Amanda was eyeing Nikki knowingly, as there was a pained look of longing in her eyes. She quickly covered it up, by looking down at her sons.

Nikki quickly changed the subject and said, “Anyway, I suppose you’ll all want to know what I and Daniel have decided to name the twins.” The others nodded. Nikki continued, “Daniel named the twin who is the oldest by fifteen minutes. He named him Jason Carl.” Daniel added, “And Nikki named his twin, Ryan Daniel.”

Elijah thought of how Zac was going to react as soon as the press got pictures of Jason and Ryan, with or without Nikki or Daniel’s permission. He pitted his friend, he really did. He was hopping Nikki slipped up and Zac found out about Jack, just once.
