Brianna Urie helped Nia and Ray into their car with their twins safely in the back and sighed. She had been helping her brother and sister-in-law take care of their daughter so much that she didn’t know what to do now that she was alone at BE. She could always help train the newbies, but that always grew boring after the first few days.
She sighed, thinking about the return of Nia’s first husband and his new wife. It was a little weird for her to think that everyone had someone, except for her. Well, her and the new people that had arrived today. It seemed that Animal Magnetism had been brought into the inner circle of BE almost as quickly as Brianna herself had.
She took a deep breath and headed back into the building, aiming for the shooting range. She needed to relieve some of her pent up anger and stress.
She walked into the gun room and picked out her favorite gun, heading through the room and into the shooting range, shocked to find someone else there. She shrugged it off and moved to her favorite stall, positioning the gun and shooting the entire clip within seconds.
She pulled the target back and smiled, seeing that all but two of the bullets had gone through the same hole, and those two had only been off by an inch. She felt someone touch her shoulder and jumped, pulling her ear muffs off and turning to find a grizzly looking man smiling at her. “I just wanted to come over here and tell you that that was some of the most impressive shooting I’ve seen in years.”
“Thank you.” Brianna was unsure of what to do so she held her hand out. “I’m Brianna Urie.”
“Andy Mackintosh.”
They shook hands and then stood there for a moment. Finally they both started to talk at the same time.
“I know …”
“You were at …”
They both blushed and Andy gestured for Brianna to go first. “I remember you from the War of the Vampire Hordes. You fought at my back most of the fight.”
“Yes, I did. You were shot, were you not?”
Brianna nodded and moved her shirt down on her shoulder to show the bullet scar. “It wasn’t as bad as it looked.”
“I still want that date I promised you as you were bleeding.”
Brianna blushed, having forgotten that she had promised that handsome shooter who had saved her life that if she survived she would let him take her out on a date. She nodded and smiled at him. “I would love that, Andy.”
“How about right now? We can go upstairs and get some lunch. I don’t think the cafeteria food is that bad.”
“That sounds great.” Brianna couldn’t believe her luck. One moment she was thinking how she was going to be alone forever and now here she was, talking to a handsome, kind BE employee. Her life couldn’t get much better.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Brianna hadn’t wanted the lunch to end. She had had so much fun with Andy that she had invited him up to her apartment afterwards. They had talked for hours and had somehow ended up in a rather scandalous situation.
She woke up, several hours later, and wrapped her arm tighter around Andy’s waist. She couldn’t believe that after just meeting the man she had automatically jumped into bed with him. It was so unlike her. She knew that there was always that possibility that her mother had told her about, but until that moment, she hadn’t even thought about it.
She looked up at the far wall, her arm relaxed against Andy’s waist, and thought about that special faerie condition. Could she have inadvertently made Andy her mate? Was she really past the mating age for female faeries? She was only twenty-one. Then again, the mating age started at sixteen.
She sat up a little and looked at the sleeping Andy and didn’t really care. He was handsome sweet and already had a grown daughter of his own. Yes, his daughter was only three years younger than Brianna, but that didn’t matter. What mattered was that Brianna was stuck with him now.
He groaned in his sleep and opened his eyes, smiling at her. “Hey, beautiful. What’s wrong? You have worry lines between your brows.” He ran his finger down between her brows.
Could he know her so well already? She tried to think if that was possible and found his lips on hers, taking her breath away. She returned the kiss and sighed against his lips. “Is this real, Andy? Have we had a spell cast on us that we feel this way about each other already?”
Andy pulled back and looked at her, shaking her head. “No spell here, Brianna. I felt this way about you since I saw you fight those vampires a year ago. I’ve been looking for you ever since, but you were always out of the country when I came around BE for my own jobs.”
Brianna sighed and knew deep down that he was telling the truth. She also knew that she had felt the same about him since he saved her a year ago. “Good. I was a little worried that I was feeling this way about you and it was all fake.”
“No fakeness here. I’m not afraid to tell you that I love you.” Andy kissed her again and this time she didn’t hesitate, returning the kiss.
“I love you too, Andy.” She bit his lip playfully and he smiled. “Too bad we have to head upstairs in fifteen minutes for that meeting about Anthony Iero coming for Alex.”
“Yeah. To be continued?”
“Of course, Andy.” Brianna smiled as she kissed him one last time and headed to the bathroom to get cleaned up. She put her back to the door and sighed. She was in love with a man she had only met twice and it wasn’t a spell. What was wrong with her?”
