Chapter 8: Growing Closer
He couldn’t get the song to come to him. Usually this wasn’t a problem. It was part of the process that came with songwriting. But today he felt annoyed that he couldn’t find the right melody. He needed to get this song done in time for his upcoming concert. It was to be a surprise for his DEARS, one of a few new songs that would premiere at the concert. One of a few surprises that was set up for the night. With a sigh, Gackt tried again, playing a few chords on his guitar.
“9 toki desu
watashi hachoudo pa^tei^ [ tou ] ni tsuki masu…”
He tried to sing, hoping the melody would come to him, but no luck. The idol sighed and put down the guitar before running his hands through his hair. His mind drifted back to his date the other night, a smile crossing his lips. Remembering the American girl always seemed to make him smile so much lately. He knew the reason why. He was falling in love with the innocent young woman who he had first seen in his dreams.
Leaning back against the sofa, he smiled some more. He had arranged to VIP passes for Quinn and Allen to come and see the show. He was curious to meet her companion and he very much wanted to see the blonde girl again. However, for the next couple days, he was completely booked. Rehearsals for the concert were taking up a lot of time, and with good reasons. With the big day just around the corner, everything had to be perfect. Still, it would have been nice if he could get away from the long hours of dance practice and sound checks so that he might be able to have another date with the American girl.
The vampire was forced out of his thoughts as he heard his cellphone ringing and picked it up. He didn’t recognize the number but he pressed the ‘talk’ button before answering. “Moshi moshi?”
“A-anou… Gakuto-sama?” A timid voice said on the other end that made the idol’s heart beat faster.
“Kuinnu-chan. I’m glad you called.” He said, standing up and stretching a bit. “I needed a bit of a break.”
“Oh, well, glad I could help.” Quinn replied, grateful that he couldn’t see her crimson cheeks on her end of the line. “I was wondering if you would… uh… for the lack of a better phrase… be a… tourist with me….?” Quinn knew that her whole face was twenty different shades of crimson right now, along with her neck turning a slight red-tint. “Today…?” She added lamely when he didn’t answer right away. She prayed to whatever merciful higher beings out there made him answer soon, worried that she really was bothering him.
In all reality, Gackt was busy glaring at his schedule. In twenty minutes, he had to leave for another rehearsal instead of being with Quinn. He snapped out of his revere when he heard her call his name. “Gomen nasai, but as of now, I’m completely booked.” He sighed, rubbing a temple.
“I’m sorry. I should have remembered that you had a concert to prepare for!” She said, her mind yelling, ‘Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!’ as she not so gently bumped her head on the wall behind her. She let out a quick gasp of pain and immediately began rubbing the back of her head. The fates were not so kind to her (or perhaps they were) as Gackt heard her gasp of pain.
“Doshtano?!” He asked in worry.
“D-daijobu…daijobu…” She said, wincing when she rubbed the tender spot on the bump site.
“What happened?” He hadn’t realized that he had removed himself from the couch and started looking for his keys until Quinn let out an embarrassed laugh.
“I sort of, hit the back of my head on the wall behind me. Don’t worry about it. I have a tendency to do things like that when I’m not –! …paying attention…” Quinn mentally cursed herself for not paying attention to the chair in her room; she had just stubbed her big toe on one of the legs. ‘Of all times for me to be a klutz…’ She thought, pressing her lips to hold back the hiss of pain dying to be released as she sat herself on the bed where it was soft and safe.
“Are you sure you’re fine?” He asked, torn between wanting to go over to her hotel and caring for her, and behaving and staying where he was.
“Hai! Daijobu!” She said with a small laugh, “Don’t worry. Like I said, I have a tendency to do things like that. So… don’t dwell on it, okay?” Quinn smiled when he muttered out his agreement. “Do you have to go soon?” She couldn’t really hide her sadness.
“Yes…” They stood silent for what seemed too long and too short at the same time, neither of them sure of what to say. “I’ll try to show you around soon…” The idol said finally.
“… Arigato, Gakuto-sama…” she felt the heat rise into her cheeks, gripping the bed sheets tightly with one hand. “I hope we can be tourists together soon…”
He let out a light chuckle. “Until later, Kuinnu-chan.”
“Until later.” They hung up, now both feeling more on the depressed side of life than on the sunnier side. Gackt stared at the phone which now was telling him it was time to go. It took more than just his will-power to go to the rehearsal.
By the time he arrived at the stadium, he was ten minutes late. He had nearly run two red lights, and missed a turn at one point. His mind was so busy on her that he wanted to turn around and head back home for a while before going out to find his angel. After a few minutes of being scolded by his manager about being punctual next time, he went to the stage to meet up with his band.
“Where were you?” Iago asked, looking over at the vocalist with some annoyance on his face. “We were starting to think you weren’t gonna come at all.”
“In honesty, I didn’t want to.” Gackt replied, running a hand through his hair. “I got a call from Kuinnu-chan.”
You just nodded and smirked a bit. “Ah… Souka… You’d rather be visiting and spending time with her than rehearsing at the moment.” The guitarist replied, to which Gackt could only nod.
“Hai… I’ve… I’ve been thinking about her nonstop. And I know we’ve been working on this concert for months, it’s just hard to concentrate right now.” The vocalist said, sitting down on some steps. The others glanced at each other, now uncertain what to say. They knew that Gackt had been thinking of the American girl during their rehearsals lately, but never this much.
“Well…whatever happens Gakkun, as long as you’re happy, the world smiles with you!” Chacha said, grinning.
‘I think you’ve got it wrong Chacha…’ Iago sighed.
“One word of wisdom, Gackt.” You made himself eye-level with the vocalist. “Whatever you do, don’t let the DEARS know. Who knows what they’ll do if this gets out.”
“That’s a little mean…” The other guitarist said, looking at You.
“Shut up, Chacha.” They stopped their short lived fight when they heard Gackt chuckle.
“Come on, let’s get this done and over with.” He said, giving his arms a quick stretch as he stood up and headed to the center of the stage.

It wasn’t hard for him to find her once he finally caught her scent when he finally left rehearsal . That sweet scent of roses that he had come to love so much. But it wasn’t just roses that he had noticed. Her scent was also the soothing scent of warm chocolate and sakura blossoms, mixed with innocence. It led him to the Tokyo Tower, a famous site for tourists and obviously, his blonde angel was no exception. And it wasn’t long before he caught sight of her, standing by herself admiring the scenery of the city from her spot.
“W-wow… This is really high up…” It was unmistakably Quinn, and if Gackt didn’t know any better, he could tell that she had a little fear in her voice.
“Don’t worry, Quinnie. It’s not the Stratosphere roller-coaster. Remember when Mimi and I tried to get you on that thing?” A male voice said, Allen no doubt, as he returned with two bottles of water.
Quinn let out a small shudder. “Don’t EVER remind me of that day.” She growled as she ripped the bottled liquid away from Allen, slapping him on the arm. “And don’t call me ‘Quinnie’. You know I hate that nickname.” She said, a little desperate to do something else than risk looking down. “I can’t believe you talked me into this…” She grumbled.
“You kind of talked yourself into it, sweetie.” Allen said as he watched her struggle with the cap.
Gackt let out a small chuckle and decided it was time to make his presence known to the pair. “Here, let me help you with that.” He gently took the bottle away from her. He opened it with ease and handed it back to a very shocked Quinn. “Am I too late to be a tourist with you and your companion?” He asked her.
She began to fumble for words, a faint blush formed on her cheeks, the act very adorable. She looked to Allen, as if asking for help.
Her partner and friend just shrugged a bit. “I don’t care. It’s all up to you, star-struck.” The blush grew before she timidly took Gackt’s hand.
“Please don’t make me look down, Gakuto-sama…” She said as she her free hand fumbled to pull out her digital camera for Allen. The vampire just chuckled a bit as he plucked out the camera from its carrying case on her hip and handed it to the young male.
“Don’t worry. You won’t look down.” He murmured as her grip tightened on his hand as she bent down to pick up her water.
“Thanks….” She took a large chug of her water, the blush still present but not as strong as moments before. He watched her as she looked straight forward. The grey cotton vest she wore was decorated with various buttons and badges; underneath the vest was an ivory tank-top that graciously hugged her figure.
Dark blue capries hugged her hips, falling just above the knee as a pair of red converse finished the look. “How was rehearsal?”
His attention returned to her face, mainly her eyes, followed by her mouth… He smiled and thought back on rehearsal. “Just as planned. We got done a bit early, luckily for me.”
Quinn returned his smile. “That’s good to hear.” She was about to say something else when a sudden flash went off in front of them.
“Damn. Why did the flash go off?” Allen grumbled as Quinn’s face began to contort from surprise to murderous intent while Gackt blinked rapidly to readjust his already sensitive eyes to the natural sunlight. Allen finally looked up to see the look upon Quinn’s face. “What? I thought you liked Kodak moments.”
“ALLEN!!” Everyone on the observation deck turned to look at the two; Some gave them an annoyed look while parents’ slowly moved their children away from them as Quinn grabbed her large, very heavy bag to swing at Allen. The J-Rocker grabbed her from behind and tossed her effortlessly onto his shoulder. “And I think that’s our cue to exist stage left.” He said, enjoying the warmth that she was emitting onto his person.
“Y-you! I-I!” Quinn blushed twenty different shades of crimson. “Plea-please put me d-down!”
“Never. This is too much fun.” Gackt knew he had a grin across his face; this was all too amusing to him.
“Come on! Please put me down! Please! This is really embarrassing! And I’m already high enough off the ground.” He simply laughed as Allen went past them a bit to punch the down elevator button. Allen waved the camera at Gackt, singling that this was a perfect Kodak moment. Gackt gave a thumbs’ up that Allen returned with a wild grin.
“Hey Quinn!” Allen shouted to his friend. Quinn turned her head around as she used her arms to pull herself up from Gackt’s body to look at her friend. A flash a light greeted her as she her mouth formed the word “what?” Gackt felt Quinn become ridged and soon felt her nails dig into his shoulder. “When he puts me down, you will wish that you had never met me!” She yelled at her friend. He really wanted to see her face now.
“Hm… What if I don’t want to put you down?” Gackt said as the elevator doors opened. Her blush only deepened as he pulled her off his shoulder and held her bridal style in his arms for a while. 'Being near her is the closest I've ever come to Heaven. I don't want this feeling, this joy to ever end...' He thought.

Yes, there really IS a hotel that has a few rides on top of it at the top of the hotel. I actually stayed at that hotel in Las Vegas about a month ago when I went there for my 21st birthday. I REFUSED to go any higher than the observation deck.
