" ... Ruki?"
Mika said softly, more closely to a whisper. After Ruki had lavished Mika's neck with affection, both of them had ended up collapsing on the sofa. Ruki was on his side, feet still on the floor with one arm wrapped across Mika and his head nestled close to hers. While she was on her back and her legs draped over his lap, both of her hands were holding onto his arm the lay across her and her head was propped up against his. Mika had been very much enjoying the attention from Ruki but once they lay down on his sofa, she felt a little disappointed ... he stopped. Instead he just lay beside her, eyes closed and holding her tightly while breathing in the floral scent in her hair. She felt a twitch beside her.
"Hmm ..."
Mika smiled as she stared up at the ceiling - sounded like he was about to doze off. It amused her considering they had only been lying there for at least ten minutes.
"Ruki?"
"Hmm"
"Are you awake?"
"Hmm"
Mika giggled softly and covered her mouth to try and stop from laughing - he sounded like a young boy who didn't want to get up yet. And he proved that by tightening his grip on her. She tried to turn her head and look at him but his head was so close to hers that it got in the way. Ruki cleared his throat and sniffed but eyes remained closed. Mika rubbed his arm firmly and then reached up to softly poke his head.
"Hmm!"
Ruki's head shot up off the sofa and Mika could finally look at him properly - yep, he was almost asleep.
"I'm sorry to wake you up, but it's after twelve-thirty ... I was thinking, with your permission, could I make something for lunch?"
Ruki frowned thoughtfully, staring at something across the room before yawning. He then looked down at Mika while blinking to restore his vision.
"Permission to what? Make lunch? Don't be silly, I'll make it for you".
Then with another big yawn, Ruki slowly sat up. The black beanie he still hadn't taken off with a little lop-sided now, so he just pulled it off and tossed it onto the coffee table. He scratched his head with both hands, scruffing his hair up a little and he stood up to stretch his back. Mika sat up straight.
"Don't get up, I don't mind making something. But is there a convenience store near here?"
In mid stretch Ruki paused and looked confused at Mika.
"Why do you want to go to a convenience store?"
"Well so I can buy some extra food items. I don't want to deplete your supply of food while I'm here".
Ruki smirked and finished stretching his back before slowly wandering around the sofa towards the kitchen - that sounded like something either Reita or Aoi would say.
"Too late, I went shopping during the week. I've got enough food here for two people for a week. That means we won't be leaving my apartment at all".
"Why did you do that, that's not fair! I wanted to contribute while I was here. Now you've gone and bought a whole heap of stuff and I can't do anything else ..."
Mika stumbled as she got off the sofa and ran around it to follow Ruki into the kitchen. He already had his head stuck in the refrigerator and contemplating what to make. He was obviously ignoring Mika's protest as he went about picking a few items - eggs, milk, butter, ham, cheese, tomato and mushrooms. Mika just stood in the doorway, hands on hips and watching as her boyfriend defied her request at offering to go buy more food. Once the items were set safely on the bench, he reached into a cupboard underneath to find an average size frying pan. By the time he'd set the pan on the stove and lit a flame Mika realised he was making an omelette. She pushed her hands into her jeans pockets and wandered over to stand because him as he waited for the pan to heat.
"You didn't have to do this you know? I mean buy extra food just for me, then go ahead and make something ..."
Ruki glanced up at her and smiled, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her closer so he could cuddle her while waiting.
"Look ... you just provide me with your company, I'll do the rest ... ne?"
Mika smiled to herself and nodded, tangling her fingers in with the hand around her waist. However she pouted when he had to take his hand away to melt some butter in the pan. But instead she stood behind him and wrapped both arms around his waist; chin resting on his shoulder while she watched him cook. It was cute to watch because any other time she'd seen Ruki was at a performance ... of course before they met. And even then it was a completely different character to the one she was cuddling right now, but this was yet again another side to him that she loved.
* * *
"Hmm yummy~!!"
Mika proclaimed as she licked her lips and immediately shovelled in another mouthful with her fork. It had taken Ruki no longer than half an hour to make one omelette for each of them. And they were also large too, because they were packed with ham, cheese, tomato and mushroom; plus the egg was nice and fluffy. Once served, he ushered Mika back into the lounge area so they could eat on the sofa ... with Mitsu sitting at their feet looking expectant. While Mika cut another piece and eagerly ate that, Ruki then couldn't help but laugh at how much joy she was getting out of his cooking.
"Geez, they way your eating you'll be sick. Slow down".
"I'm sorry, it's just really yummy! I hardly ever get to eat omelette's".
"When you get a chance, ask Kai to make one. He puts anything in that he can find".
Mika went to giggle and in doing so almost choked on her next piece. A couple of coughs later, along with a few hits on the back from Ruki and an 'I told you so', she was fine again. So Mika finally decided slowing down was a good thing and she turned around to look at Ruki while she ate.
"Oh, Kira called me yesterday and told me Reita-kun called her. She's definitely going to his place tomorrow, but he probably already told you that. And Megumi, Kikyo and Ai have said they're going to Uruha-kun's party. I'm glad they decided to go, it'll be more fun for them with the guys".
"Yeah I got the run-down yesterday too. Reita of course again told me that I was an asshole, but I've heard that before - as I said to him, he'll thank me one day. Did Megumi, Kikyo or Ai say anything about if Uruha offered for them to stay if they didn't want to travel home so late?"
Mika thought for a second and then her eyebrows shot up as she pointed at Ruki.
"Yes, actually Kikyo did! She thought it would be a safe idea, but I haven't heard what Megumi or Ai thought. Assuming they all go in the one car, chances are they'd stay as well. Considering the celebrations going on all of the city, I'd think it would be safer for them to stay there too".
A little smile slowly crept onto Ruki's face.
"Your just saying that because you want all of them to get together, don't you?"
"No I don't! I really, really, really want them to get together".
Ruki laughed and looked down at his plate - he had a feeling that was what she would say. Mika seemed to be the 'everyone should have someone' type, and that worked fine for him. Mika smiled to herself and kept eating, all the while thinking about her friends getting closer to Ruki's band mates. It was starting to overwhelm Mika's brain with 'cuteness'. After a short moment for eating in silence, Ruki made an 'hmm' sound, like he just remembered something so he set his plate on the coffee table.
"I'll be right back, I need to get something".
Mika looked up at him as Ruki stood up and walked past her towards his bedroom. She blinked while chewing on her current mouthful, wondering what he had to find. She then looked down at Mitsu, who was still sitting by her feet, and shrugged - the dog responded by scooting closer and give a short whine. She laughed and reached down to pat his head - it was a sign he wanted some of the omelette. Mika then went back to eating until and glanced up when she saw Ruki coming back, hands behind his back. Rather than going back to sit next to her, he bent down to give Mika a sweet lingering kiss.
"Seeing we missed Christmas, I can finally give this to you".
Mika blushed at the kiss and then Ruki brought a small wrapped gift for her. It was a flat box about the size of a credit card, wrapped in shimmering white tissue paper with a silver ribbon tied around it. There was even a special label tied to the bow in the ribbon. Mika gasped as Ruki took her plate, set it on the coffee table and replaced it with the gift.
"Oh my gosh ... I don't know if I want to ruin the wrapping by opening it".
Ruki laughed and sat on the edge of the coffee table, elbows resting on his knees and hands clasped together while he watched her reading the label. The label was written in complete Japanese and the characters were flowy, but she knew he'd written it personally. Her face displayed a calm expression at first by it slowly grew into an adoring smile. She'd finished reading but then decided to read it out-loud.
"Mika-ko ... I know I've told you this already, but even though I asked you to be my girlfriend so quickly, I will never regret it. I realised back then that I was meant to meet you and I'm glad I did. Please stand by me forever ... Takanori".
Mika smile down at the gift for a second and then at Ruki.
"That's the sweetest thing I've ever heard ... I don't regret it either. In fact I'm glad you did ask me ... Taka-chan".
Mika giggled and Ruki hung his head in embarrassment - yep, he decided to write his real name instead of 'Ruki', because using his real name is more personal. Mika leaned forward and placed a lingering kiss to the top of his head, then reaching up with one hand to give his head a gently rub. Then she went ahead and unwrapped the gift, making sure to hold onto the label - she was never going to throw it out. After the tissue paper, she came to the box - it was white leather with silver edging; just the box alone looked expensive. Ruki looked up again just in time to see Mika carefully open the box and stare in wonder - inside on a little satin pillow was a glimmering silver butterfly pendant and the chain was attached to the top tips of the wings. The body of the butterfly was encrusted with tiny pink diamonds and the wings had swirling carvings in them, in the kind of style that you could see through the wings. The pendant was no bigger than about in inch and a half long, an inch high.
"Oh my ... this is stunning but it looks expensive, Ruki!"
Mika marvelled at the butterfly and then looked nervous at Ruki, like she was afraid to pick it up in case it broke from the slightest touch. Ruki laughed and took the box from her so he could pick up the necklace. Setting the box down beside him, he gestured for Mika to lean forward. She did so straight away and Ruki unclasped the chain, wrapped his arms around Mika's neck and reclasped it. He placed a couple of soft kisses to the side of her neck and sat back so his face was close to hers.
"It doesn't matter how much it cost. And don't try to find out because I bought this while on Tour".
"Well I wouldn't do that anyway, but ... thankyou so much".
Mika smiled warmly at Ruki and gave him a kiss, with their tongues just slightly touching this time. Mika cupped his cheek with one hand tenderly while the other hand rested on his shoulder. Ruki combed one hand through Mika's hair a couple of times while the other sat lightly on her knee. Suddenly Mika made an 'hmm' sound just like Ruki and she pulled away from Ruki quickly.
"I can't believe I forgot. I have something for you too!"
"I hope its hand-cuffs".
"Your gross! Shut up and sit back on the sofa, I'll be right back".
Mika promptly stood up, shoved Ruki towards the sofa and then ran to his bedroom to find her bag. It was just inside the door as she realised when almost tripping over it. She dropped to her knees and fumbled to unzip her bag in anticipation. Roughly digging through her clothes she finally found Ruki's gift and didn't bother to close her bag as she stumbled back out to the lounge area. Ruki was just finishing the last of his omelette when he looked up as Mika came darting back to the sofa. She jumped onto the seat beside him and held out the gift in both hands, grinning childishly.
"My turn! I hope you like it".
"Anything from you is plenty".
Ruki smiled and set his fork down. He leaned back against the sofa, crossed his legs and took the gift. It was a larger box than Mika's butterfly - about the size of a CD-case - wrapped in thick black wrapping paper with a slipcover over it. The slipcover was almost see-through but it was frosted white - the wrapping looked strangely familiar but Ruki dismissed it because he couldn't think why. So he took the slipcover off and went about unwrapping the black paper. Inside was a similar box to Mika's but it was black velvet with white edging ... again it was annoyingly familiar. When he opened the box the breath caught in his throat - inside was an intricate silver bracelet made up of several silver pieces with black engravings, a thick clasp and links between each engraved piece. Ruki gaped at Mika.
"Mika ... baby ... did you by any chance get this from 'Harugin'."
Mika bit her bottom lip nervously and nodded slowly.
"Babe, I endorse them. You shouldn't have bought me this, the cheapest thing they have is over 30,000 yen! Why?"
Mika flinched and looked down - she had a feeling that would be his reaction.
"Why do I need a reason? I decided to do it, to give you something you'd like ..."
"Mika, you could give me a cheesy portrait of yourself and I would love it ... because it's of you".
Mika slouched sadly - she hadn't expected Ruki to be that mad. Like she said, it was something he would wear but because he endorsed the company he got practically all of his jewellery free of charge. And that bracelet was actually a new piece so there was a chance he didn't have it yet. Suddenly Ruki felt guilty all over for raising his voice at Mika ... he could afford to buy her extravagant gifts, but her gift to him might just leave her broke. Ruki sighed and lifted her chin up.
"Hey, I'm sorry to yell. I'm just surprised you bought this for me, that's all. I don't want you to end up broke because of me".
"But I'm not, I swear ... do you like it?"
Mika looked a little teary at Ruki as he caressed her cheek lovingly. Ruki smiled.
"Yes I do ... thank-you for giving me this. But no more expensive spending on my behalf, okay?"
Ruki raised both eyebrows and held a stern finger up to Mika to make sure she knew. Mika again bit her bottom lip and nodded in defeat. She then took the box from him and picked up the heavy silver bracelet. She took his bare wrist and wrapped the bracelet around it - there was a short extension of the chain because Mika clasped it to fit. When she was done Ruki held his wrist up to examine the chain - it was definitely a new piece because the design was different. He then smiled at Mika and squeezed her hand.
"Thank-you for this ..."
Ruki leaned over and gave her a romantic kiss to which Mika felt like melting. When he pulled back she blushed and looked down at his hand with the bracelet.
"There's more. Look at the end of the chain ..."
Mika held his wrist up again and pointed to the dangling part of the chain. Ruki took hold of the last silver piece and studied it. It wasn't like the other pieces with black engravings; instead it was an inch long flat silver rectangle, about a centimetre wide. On one side was an engraving in Kanji ...
"The best thing to happen to me was meeting you ..."
Ruki turned the little silver plate over.
"All my love, Mika."
Mika smiled to herself while she listened to Ruki reading the engravings and stared at the bracelet. She then realised he was now staring at her and blushed, looking down at her hands as she started to tangle her fingers together. She'd never written anything like that about anyone before so it was a little embarrassing but that was how she felt about Ruki. Suddenly she found herself lying down on the sofa again, having been pushed by Ruki. He was lying down beside her again like before except his legs were now up on the sofa. Leaning on one elbow - which was positioned next to her shoulder closest to him - using that hand he combed his fingers softly through her hair again while the other arm was resting across her body. Mika stared up at him; both of her hands were resting on the arm across her waist and he just returned the stare, strands of hair fanned over his eyes.
"Ruki, is everything alright? You didn't say anything after reading the engraving ..."
"Yeah ... everything's just fine ..."
Then before Mika could say anything else he leaned down and kissed her, attracting a little surprised sound from Mika. However the surprise quickly faded and she again met Ruki's tongue - she began to wonder if his tongue would ever get dislocated from kissing her so much. 'Ah, what the hell' Mika thought and moved her arms so they wrapped around his neck. Ruki took this chance to bury his arm underneath Mika so it was fully wrapped around her waist and he held her firmly against his body. His other arm was still bent at the elbow so he could hold himself up, not wanting to put any weight on Mika - she was even tinier than him in stature, and he was quite slim. If there hadn't been any heating in Ruki's apartment she certainly wouldn't be cold because he felt so warm and the thick jacket he was still wearing seemed to be helping.
While continuing the kiss Mika removed her arms from his neck and instead wrapped them around his body underneath the jacket. Ruki could feel Mika holding onto him for dear life because she was pressed quite firmly against his chest, no sign of letting go. He wasn't sure why she was doing it; if she was just cosying to the warmth of his body ... or implying that she wanted him to go further. Ruki decided to be bold and test the boundaries. He bent his leg until it moved in between Mika's legs, shifting upwards until he stopped just between her thighs. Mika found herself tensing a little and making a nervous whimper but she willed herself to relax. Mika bent her own leg up so her thigh actually brushed along Ruki's. Ruki could tell by Mika's movements that she was anxious and she wasn't sure what to do or how to act. Ruki broke the kiss and looked at her flushed and dazed face.
"Mika ... something's been on my mind for a while. But I don't want you to feel embarrassed about answering ... you've never been with a guy before, have you?"
Mika went from flushed to bright red but she shook her head slowly. Ruki nodded.
"I thought so ... you become tense each time I touch you".
"I don't mean to be, it's just I-"
"It's okay, I'm not annoyed. I just want to make sure you know ... that you're not the first girl I've been with. So that means I'd be more experienced than you, but I hope I don't make you think worse of me because of that."
Mika nodded slowly as she listened to him speak. She wasn't upset that Ruki had been with other girls; in fact she felt quite humble that he made sure she understood. Just because she was a virgin, Mika wasn't expecting Ruki to be as well ... she could just tell right away that he wasn't, even before they met. Noticing that Mika understood, Ruki went on.
"Though if it makes you feel any better I was only ever intimate with one girl - my girlfriend from Junior High. But that's history, you're my first girlfriend since I finished school ..."
Mika smiled as Ruki realised he was starting to ramble. He cleared his throat and continued.
"The point I'm trying to make is that now I've met you I want to do whatever I can to make you feel comfortable around me-"
"But I am comfortable, Ruki".
Ruki shifted his arm from around her waist and reached behind his back to take one of her hands. As he brought their hands back around, he tangled his fingers with Mika's.
"Wait, let me finish ... I want to do anything for you to be comfortable with me. So when that time comes and you're ready to let me make love to you ..."
Mika blushed furiously and swallowed hard just before Ruki kissed her sweetly - she couldn't believe she was hearing this from Ruki himself. Her friends were never going to let her live this down if she told them - so she wasn't going to. Ruki pulled back a little and gave her a little smile.
"... I want it to be the most amazing moment you've ever had".
Mika returned with her own little smile - it was all she could do at that time because she just felt so overwhelmed by what was going on. Again it took her back to the conversion between Kira, Ai and herself ... her thoughts were just so scrambled that she really needed time to think. Okay, she got a confirmation that Ruki was sexually interested and that he would wait for her - that at least gave her one less thing to worry about ... right? No way! That only gave her more to think about - would she resist and stick to her belief? Would she finally dismiss it and give herself to Ruki? Would she take the risk of him breaking up with her if she did give in? Not to mention hearing that it hurts the first time! Ruki watched Mika's face as all of these thoughts ran through her mind - he could almost hear the wheels clicking inside her head.
"... Mika?"
"Huh!"
Mika gasped and looked wide-eyed at Ruki when he said her name. Mika sighed and closed her eyes, realising what she'd just done - she'd slipped into an accidental 'panicked-thought' state, as she called it, because she had a bad habit of doing it.
"Sorry ... when you said everything just now it sent my mind into a traffic-jam of thoughts. You're the first guy I've dated who has talked openly about this ... my ex's never did; they just wanted to get straight into it if you get my meaning".
Ruki nodded with an expression that he knew exactly what she meant.
"Yes, the male species are a vulgar breed".
"Anyway, because you've told me how you feel, it's now raised a lot of thoughts ... too many to let me think straight. Don't get me wrong, I think you're the hottest guy I've ever seen and I'm sure your great-"
Ruki smirked and Mika squeezed her eyes shut, slapping a hand over her face - yep, she'd just inflated his ego by saying he was probably great in bed. Mika cleared her throat and went on.
"What I'm saying is ... would you just let me think about it first?"
Mika hoped her message didn't come out wrong; that he wouldn't think she was saying 'no' and she just wanted to consider her feelings, wants and needs. Ruki nodded and smiled warmly.
"Baby, take all the time you need, I will still be here. To give you a head start, if one of your concerns is if I'd dump you after we do it ... then stop. I can't force you to believe me so all I can do is ask that you will believe me".
How does he do that? Mika thought. He knew exactly what her worries were. She looked into his eyes after telling her to believe him - she couldn't deny him that. Mika smiled and squeezed his hand.
"Yes ... I believe you. I will stop worrying about that ... I know it sounds stupid but I've just heard about it happening sometimes. It'd tear me apart if that happened to us".
"Oh trust me, don't you think I've been worried about the same thing?"
Mika just stared at him for a moment, the way his expression just saddened after the comment he made. She still couldn't get over how possessive Ruki was towards her - but not in a bad way; just something she wasn't used to. Even in Junior High, her ex-boyfriends weren't that affectionate towards her - when alone, her boyfriends would get a little too touchy-feely for her liking, but as soon as they were with their mates, Mika would practically be ignored. Yep with Ruki, it didn't matter if it was around his band mates or Mika's friends; he hasn't once ignored her yet - to Mika ... that was romantic. She gave him a little smile and brought both of her hands up to touch his face; she traced her fingers over his forehead and down the sides of his face, when he closed his eyes she softly brushed her thumbs over his eye-lids and then circled them over his cheeks. Finally she moved her hands to rest around his neck, then lifting her head to kiss him. Ruki relaxed into her kiss but only as little sweet kisses.
"No more sad and negative thoughts, okay? It makes you sad, and then you make me sad".
Ruki 'commanded', as he suddenly pulled back and frowned at Mika. She giggled and nodded, bitting the corner of her lip sheepishly. Then she looked amused but confused.
"Hey, what do you mean I make you sad?"
"Just when you're upset. You looked so helpless the night we left the café I seriously considered boycotting the tour".
Mika looked shocked as she gasped. She slapped Ruki in the chest, which made him laugh.
"Your such a liar, you did not!"
"Well whether I did or not, I was very moody for the first week. Sometimes I was very snappy".
Ruki grinned and sat up straight, leaving Mika still sprawled out on the sofa. He took this moment to pile their plates and cups together to take back to the kitchen. Just as he was briskly retreating out of the lounge area and into the kitchen, Mika sat up and frowned as she watched. Then she too stood up quickly and power-walked to follow him. Elsewhere in the corner of the room beside the veranda doors in his little basket-bed, Mitsu lifted his head at hearing all of the commotion. He watched blank-faced as Mika spoke up in a whinging voice.
"Hey! How is your snappiness my fault? Ruki!"
Mitsu blinked. From where he was lying, his master and Mika couldn't be seen but they were certainly heard - Mika being whiny and Ruki trying to avoid the subject basically. Realising investigating wasn't a wise idea; Mitsu yawned widely and then lay his head down again. Falling asleep again wasn't going to be easy when Mika was following Ruki around the kitchen and trying to get him to fess-up.

NOTES:
1) Ruki's cooking: His specialty is actually spagetti, but being lunch-time, an omelette sounded better
2) 'Mika-ko': A silly pet-name for Mika - eg. Mika-baby
3) Ruki's real name: I may have already mentioned this but Ruki's real name is supposedly 'Matsumoto Takanori'. Whether it's true or not, thats good enough for me ... the guys'll need their real names at some point in my stories
4) Mika's necklace: I actually got the idea for this necklace from some pictures on 'GemCerey'
5) 'Harugin': Is a silver accessories company that mainly designs mens jewelry. Ruki endorses the company
6) Ruki's bracelet: Also inspired by some designs on the 'Harugin' website
7) 30,000 yen: Is about $300 (roughly)
