That night after I fell asleep the nightmares came all I saw was her and all I felt was pain her voice in my head telling me that I worthless and meant nothing to Johnny. I woke up screaming, the nurse came in and tried to calm me, but it didn’t work. The other nurse on duty called Johnny, telling him to get here as soon as he could and when he got there, he saw me thrashing and my eyes were glazed over I was still asleep. He pulled me into his arms and whispered “Lizzie, it's ok love, you're safe come on wake up.”
It took me a few blinks, when I woke up I saw Johnny holding me and I cried into his chest. He held me and let me cry, whisperings sweet nothings in my ear.
“Johnny can you call Katie and Leann fly them both down here, and Keira as well.” I asked tiredly.
“Sure I call them now and they'll be on the next flight, and then Keira, and all of them will be here tomorrow, ok.” he waited for an answer, but I was asleep. In Bellevue 4:30am, Katie's cell phone rang waking her out of a very deep sleep “You better be male and asking me to marry you for me to be answer this cell phone.”
Laughter filled the room, “Thanks for the offer, but I’m already taken. Lizzie really needs you, can you fly down here, like now. I'll have a car pick you up in hour.”
“Ok, is everything alright?”
“No.” being truthful. “Lizzie had a bad nightmare and needs you, I’ll see you soon.”
After hanging up with Katie, he called Leann.
In Issaquah at about 5am Leann’s cell went off she had just out of the shower “Hello, who is this?”
“Leann it’s Johnny, you know Lizzie’s boyfriend.”
“Hi what’s up is Lizzie ok?”
“No she isn’t. She’s in the hospital and she’s needs you can you come down.”
“Yeah but how do I get to LA I’m poor.”
“Don’t worry all I need is your address and a car will pick you up and take you to the airport Katie will be there as well you guys should be here about noon or so.”
“Ok bye and Johnny take care of her.”
“I will bye.” Lastly he called Keira “You better be either Lizzie or some really hot men, if you want me to talk to you.”
“Well Lizzie is here, but she’s asleep and I didn't know that you thought I was so hot.”
“Shut up Johnny. What's wrong?”
“Lizzie had a really bad nightmare she needs you, can you be here in the morning?”
“Yeah sure I’ll be there, night.”
“Thanks, night.” Johnny stayed with me all night soothing my fears and helping me sleep. I woke up to soft voices, I rubbed my eyes to see Katie, Leann, and Keira talking to Johnny who was holding me in his arms.
“Morning Starshine.” he said when he saw me awake.
“I'm going to go eat then I’ll be back, ok.” He pulled me to his lips and kissed me I could taste the salt of tears on his lips. “Love you, bye ladies.” He walked out and shut the door behind him. Katie, Leann and Keira sat on the bed and pulled me into a four way hug. I cried and looked at the three girls who were my best friends and sisters in every way, but blood.
“I dreamed that she was back and Johnny was all a dream. I think I tell you guys what happened, but you have to swear not to tell Johnny or anyone else, swear.”
“We swear.”
I took a deep breath “I was walking back from the store with ice cream and meds for Jack. I was four blocks away from the house, when I was slammed into the alley by two men, one held a knife to my throat, while the other tore at my clothes. I kneed one in the groin and slammed my elbow into the other. I ran for the house I was at the back gate when the same guys body slammed into the pavement bound my hands and feet and threw me into a van. I looked up when I heard “Oh hello Elizabeth” Vanessa was lounging while one guy suck on her breast and another ate her out. She said pay up boys and she’s ours for one night. As the men gathered their money as she put a collar around my neck it was metal and very tight and when it clicked, I knew my fate. The men each took a part on me and each one rape me. The rest of the day passed and Keira, Leann and Katie promised to back tomorrow. The night nurse said it was ok for Johnny to stay over night.
“Are you ok now? I was worried.”
“I’ll be ok, what about you, how are you holding up?”
“Fine.” I looked into his eyes, they were red and puffy and I could see the bags under them.
“When was the last time you slept and how long have you been crying?” He looked at me with a weird look trying to tell me that I was crazy, but knew I could see the truth.
“I haven’t slept in almost a week ever since you went missing ever time I closed my eyes I saw the worst images so I stop sleeping. Every night after I put the kids to bed I would hold your pillow close and cry and pray that you were ok and we would find you. The day I found you, Keira found me still holding the pillow and said ‘Stop making out with yourself and let’s get the kids to school their already late.’”
“I could taste your tears when you kissed last night and today, please try to sleep. Here you can stay here tonight, the nurses won’t mind I think.”
“No I’ll go home and…”
“But I want you here with me.”
“Lizzie you and I are one now and forever.”
“Now, I know you’re tired and you have been watching too much Gargoyles. Good night Johnny.”
“Sleep well, Lizzie.”
The next day was a reunion day, Jack, Kevin, Martin, David, Johnny, Keira, Orli, Zoe, Gore and Jerry were there to see me and make sure that I was recovering. We sat and talked about what to do to Vanessa and then Johnny told all of us that she was in jail and would be there for a long time.
“How, I mean not that I’m ungrateful or anything.”
“I went to the courthouse yesterday and showed them the pictures and doctors note of you, and then also showed them all the doctor visits I had gone to after she hurt me and the kids. The judge was outraged to say the least. So they arrested her and sentenced her to 20 to life in prison, she doesn’t have a chance in hell of parole. So no worries love, you are safe.” he kissed my lips and I felt my heart melt.
“Thank you so much Johnny. I wanted to tell you that she was calling me, but she said that if I did then she would kill you and take the kids away from me. But now I don’t have to worry. I love you and I glad to see that you got some sleep.”
Jack walked up to the bed and gave me a hug and a kiss and handed me a present.
“What’s this?”
“Open it and you’ll find out.”
I unwrapped that box and saw the whole Harry Potter series hardback, limited edition, there was a note from J.K. Rowling saying that I was in her prayers and hoping that I was doing well. The books were all autographed and there an I.O.U. for the seventh book
“Thank you Commander. This so great, now Lilly and Jack can have my old books.” I gave him a hug.
“You are most welcome Lady Sparrow.”
“Hey Lizzie, how are you?” Zoe asked, she was holding a bag.
“I’m better thanks to Johnny and all of you guys. How are you?”
“Good, I have something for you.”
I raised my eyebrows and smiled as she placed the bag on the bed. I opened the bag and pulled out a box, I opened the lid and pulled out a beautiful statue. It was Peter Pan and Tinkerbell heading to Neverland.
“Thank you. I love it.” I leaned up to hug her.
I looked at Jerry “So what’s this about a talk about Eleanor?”
“Well I didn’t want to change the transmission, but for you its ok, just be careful when using “Go Baby Go” ok.”
“I promise.”
Four days later I was on solid food, I could breathe easier, my chest didn’t hurt anymore and my voice was back and the doctor said that I could sing. I saw all the get well flowers, balloons, and gifts from my friends, but none from my family. I realized that my parents didn’t know what had happened to me. I looked for my cell, but didn’t see it. Johnny walked into the room his hands full with a bag of food, a drink, and a mint Oreo blizzard.
“Food” I sat up against the pillows and reached for it.
“Ok hold on.” as he placed the bag on the table on move it so I could eat. I grabbed a cheeseburger and took a big bite. Hospital food is like airplane food, nasty.
“Have you seen my cell phone?”
“When I found you, there was nothing near you. No purse, no phone, no wallet, so I cancelled the cards, called the bank and the cell company. I got new credit cards ordered they will be ready after the wedding, the bank will watch your account and make sure that all of your money stays there and I got you a new cell phone, it has all your numbers it already.” It was one of the new Ami James razors, it was pink and had cherry blossoms on it, I check the phone list and everyone was there.
“Guess I should call my mom and dad and tell them what happened, shouldn’t I?”
“Well only if you want them to hear about it twice.”
“Twice.”
“They called me when they couldn't get a hold of you and I told them a little bit about what happened and your mom said they were taking the soonest flight here and stay with us, and fly with us to France.”
“Oh ok.” I ate the rest of my lunch. Johnny and I walked around the floor so that I could get some of my strength back. We were coming back to room when I heard my mom’s voice
“I wonder where she went.”
“I’m right here mom. Hi daddy.”
“Hi sweetheart. How are you?”
“I’m better, thanks to all the love and support of my friends and Johnny of course.” giving him a kiss. We sat and talked till the doctor came by to say visiting hours were over and that I needed rest.
