Leyna’s POV
“So, John, just remember that I need you in position 5 minutes before you’re set to go on ok?” Sometimes I really hated working with the superstars but it wasn’t always that bad. In this case, working with John Cena was a chore. He never seemed to be on time and I had to constantly remind him that he needed to be ready to go at least 10 minutes before he went on and then in position with 5 minutes to go. As always he nodded his head and walked away and I had the sneaky suspicion that I would be chasing him down when it came to his part of the show.
The rest of the job wasn’t bad, I was basically a runner, when someone needed something I went and got it which wasn’t so bad until you had to go and fetch things for the Diva’s they, were horrible, except for Nik of course, she wasn’t bad and really I don’t think that I really classify her as a Diva anyway. Now there were a few people I couldn’t stand. Like at one point I worked on Smackdown and had to put up with Michelle McCool or Michelle McPuke as I like to call her. I can’t stand that woman.
Tonight had to run smooth, last week Cena had screwed me up to the point that I had the wrong people going out for the wrong matches and I came very close to losing my job and it took my Dad saving my ass in order for me to keep it. It was sad really, my Dad having to make it so that I could keep my job. He almost murdered Cena afterwards as well. I smiled at Nik when she showed up for her turn. She gave me a wave and I watched as she made her way out to the ring.
Best thing about being a runner was that I got to watch the shows for free, or at least some of them. It was still a job and I had to be doing my job instead of watching the show all the time. Now the really cool this is when Nik actually gets to wrestle with one of the big names in the business. For tonight, it was Maryese, neither of us could stand her and Nik had sucked her way up into getting this match tonight. As usual, the so-called Women’s Champion was not in place when she came out.
She never made my job easy, but no way was I going to let her ruin my night for me tonight. For her little stunt, I was seriously hoping that Nik would hand her butt to her for it. Normally, if someone offended me and Nik got a chance at him or her in the ring, she’d get revenge. That’s how we worked together, and it’s also that fact that made me love Nik even more than I already did. For all her playing at being stuck up, she loved her friends and family.
What of the match I got to watch, between setting up for the next match and making sure people were in place, was great. Nik was beating the crap out of Maryese, and wasn’t even working up a sweat. I can promise you that in the locker room, Paul is grinning from ear to ear about this. She’d won matches before, but she was fighting a champion and winning, by far. If she actually won this match, I could almost bet she’d be on the show more often.
That would actually almost suck though, because then I’d have to sit and listen to her talk about being a diva. Grinning to myself, I shook my head a little, she’d talk for maybe a week and then the new would wear off. Of course, that’s the other great thing about her, she brags for just a little while and then just drops it. The other women in this company didn’t drop anything, they kept on and on about things. Which is why Nik started wrestling in the first place, she got tired of listening to Amy Dumas before she retired.
Back on task here, I looked up and noticed that Nik was not in her usual comfort zone of the ring. My eyes are playing tricks on me; they have to be, because Nik is not up on that turnbuckle. I think I almost fainted when I saw her jump off and crash into Maryese with a move I couldn’t remember the name of. Oh she was going to be in trouble when she got back to the locker room. Paul would chew her a new one for that, he hated to see her take risks, and trust me, that was a big one right there. Not only that, but she had promised me not to take those risks yet, yeah I was going to strangle her.
Somehow, she made it out of the match without breaking any bones, and she’d actually won. I was surprised that she’d won, but that wasn’t going to get her off the hook about that little stunt. When she came up the ramp to go into the back, I was about to go and talk to her, but Paul showed up. He looked pretty pissed off as he led her into the back, and I think I cringed. Twice in one day was a new record for Nik, but she shouldn’t have been on that turnbuckle in the first place.
Making sure things were handled for the next match; I went into the back to look for the two of them. That wasn’t hard to do, I heard Paul yelling at her and then Nik yelling back at him. Walking into the locker room, I cleared my throat and they both looked at me. Nik threw up her hands and then walked by me, slamming the door behind her. Well this wasn’t how I’d planned things to go at all, I was alone with Paul again and he was mad.
“She doesn’t learn anything, not a thing!” He yelled as he slid his hands through his hair. Nodding, I stayed quiet for the moment, he needed to get this off his chest and I would just listen. “Someone needs to talk some sense into her before she gets herself killed out there.” Sliding my hands into the pockets of my jeans, I decided to speak up, “Paul, let me try and talk to her for you, ok?” He looked at me and sighed before nodding a little, “Thank you, Leyna.”
I smiled up at him, willing myself not to start blushing, “She’s my best friend, and she’d do the same for me.” He smiled back at me and I seriously almost melted into the floor because of it. Reaching out, he pulled me into a hug and I found myself turning bright red before I could stop it. “You are a lifesaver. If anyone can talk some sense into her, it’s you.” He said before finally letting me go and grinning at me again. All I could do was manage a smile back at him, amazingly not passing out or anything.
I watched him walk out the door and managed to make it to the nearby couch before dropping. I either really needed to do something about this or make myself forget because if I didn’t this situation was going to kill me slowly and painfully. Of course I think it would have to be the “forget about him” option because I really didn’t want to hurt Nik. Then again, wouldn’t it be funny if I ended up as my best friend’s step-mom?
