Everlasting Love(Pt9)
Several nights later, Sav lay curled up beside Joe, his arm stretched over his chest, legs intertwined together. He stared off into the twilight of a new night, listening to Joe’s slow breathing. Joe would occasionally smooth the hair back from his face or turn his head to draw in his scent.
He thought about the days past. The night that Kyle walked into his life a nobody, only to find out that he was his son. Sav didn’t let on that he recognized the woman in the picture when Kyle showed it to him. He remembered the lovely young woman in the picture clearly. The night that the photo was taken by her friend. What they did later that night in his hotel room and the next day. He never saw her again. He read the letter that Kyle’s mother wrote about their night together, not in detail mind you. Everything she wrote about he remembered. They created a life together, one he never knew about. Less than six months after that night with her, Sav met Lacey and his chances at having children of his own flesh and blood, vanished. Sav let Kyle believe that he was Rick Savages son too…for now. He couldn’t tell him the truth about who he really was, not until he was sure that Kyle was really his son.
Kyle told him everything about his life growing up in the States, being a respected lawyer in his field, his children and soon to be grandchild. About his father Patrick Manning and lastly…his mother.
"What do you think?" Sav broke the silence.
"I think he’s your son. I can see you in his eyes, those eyes that can turn me to mush. I believe Kyle has your mouth too, that same mouth that not to long ago was burning fire on me."
"I thought that was me." Sav poked his stomach.
"You know what I mean." Joe tightened his arm around his shoulder.
"The only way to be sure is to taste his blood. It’s not like we can run down to the nearest doctor and have blood test."
"Sure you can. I can do it for you." Joe told him.
"Kyle already thinks were strange. He would think we lost our minds if you asked him for a taste of his blood."
"He is your son. I don’t have to taste his blood to know that. I can smell you in him."
Sav grew quiet again, thinking of everything he had missed while Kyle grew up. Although Kyle had told him a lot about that in the days he had been here and the time they had spent together. A smile broke out on his lips.
Joe caught the press of his cheek on his chest. "What are you smiling about?"
"I have a son….made of my flesh and blood. It’s a little much to take in, but I like the way its making me feel to know I do have a son."
"There’s nothing better in the world baby." Joe kissed the top of his head, wrapping his other arm around him.
Sav chuckled.
"What?"
"Wait until Kyle gets to know more about us, what we are. He’s going to think he walked into the Twilight Zone."
"Or have us committed." Joe followed with giggles.
"We are an eccentric group." Sav continued giggling.
"Loving and very protective of our family." Joe added.
"FUCK!" Sav bolted from Joe’s arms.
Joe jumped from his outburst. "Why did you do that Rick? Shit, you scared me."
"Nick….he..he’s coming."
Joe groaned and covered his face with his hands. Flopping them back on the bed, he blew out a deep breath. "And here I thought he finally crawled under that rock."
Sav scooted from the bed, searching the floor for his pants. He shoved his leg in and hopped around as he shoved the other one in. Looking around the room for his shirt then dove his hands under the blankets to graze across Joe’s bare skin.
"What are you doing?"
"Looking for my shirt."
"Well that’s not it." Joe smirked when Sav ran his hands over his butt. "Forget about Nick and come back to bed."
"I can’t. You know how he is when I’m not ready to greet him."
Joe propped up on his elbow to watch Sav continue looking for his shirt under the bed.
"Why do you insist on doing this to yourself?"
"Do what?" Sav stood up.
"I don’t get you sometimes. Whenever Nick comes to visit, you act like your afraid of him."
"What do you mean by that?" Sav went around to the other side of the bed and dropped to his knees, he bent over to look under that side.
"Just that. Step back and look at yourself Sav, you’re running around this room like chicken with its head cut off."
"A chicken doesn’t run around Joe, it flops around a bit and just dies."
"When are you going to stop being afraid of him?" Joe exclaimed.
"When he is not longer a threat to my family and if that means I have to be afraid of him, then so be it." Sav stood up, he spun around and nearly ran in Nick.
"Looking for this?" Nick said and held up his shirt.
Joe flipped around at the sound of his voice just in time to see Nick backhand Sav across the face. Sav stumbled sideways and wiped the blood from his lip.
"What was that for?" Sav yelled.
"You’ve been keeping secrets from me."
"I have no…"
"Silence!" Nick’s voice boomed in the room.
Joe slid from the bed and grabbed his jeans and made his way around the bed.
"I would advise you to stay where you are Joseph." said Nick as he moved toward Sav. "You failed to tell me about this young man Kyle Manning. Therefore you kept him a secret."
"He’s no business of yours, therefore I didn’t keep anything from you. How did you know about him anyway?"
"I know every move you make Richard." Nick sneered.
"Oh that’s right." Sav stated sarcastically. "The goons that hide in the shadows following me."
"These goons as you call them, have given me some rather disturbing news."
"I can’t imagine what." Sav darted his eyes to Joe.
"Come now, surely you must know what I’m referring too."
"Noo….I don’t."
Nick’s movement was a blur. He twisted Sav’s arm behind his back and slammed him to the wall. "Does the name Amber mean anything to you?"
Nick whispered in his ear loud enough for only Sav to hear.
Sav grew stiff at his words.
"Yes I see that you do." Nick released him and approached Joe. "Evening Joseph, nice to see you again." Nick left the room.
Sav turned around and leaned on the wall. Joe came over and lightly touched the bruise on his face.
Sav batted his hand away. "Leave me alone."
Joe dropped his hand. "Another thing you always do when he comes, is push me away."
Sav brushed past him and out the door, trying to ignore the hurtful expression on Joe’s face.

Later than night, Evelyn was putting the last touches to the dinner table. Kyle and Beth were joining them for dinner before they flew back to the states the following day. She and Beth had already formed a close friendship just in the short time they had been there and would miss her when she left. The woman promised to stay in contact by phone and visits. The Manning’s were family after all. Just how close the family relation was at this time for Kyle has never been mentioned. Sav wanted to keep it to where Kyle thought he was the other son.
Joe came into the room and silently crept up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. "Looks great." He bent down and kissed her neck.
Evelyn turned in his arms and looked up at him.
"When was the last time I told you…I love you?" Joe caressed her cheek.
"This morning when you left our bed to go to Sav’s."
"I love you." Joe said again. He leant forward and kissed her softly on the lips. Pulling her close, Joe deepened the kiss, sliding his tongue past her lips. Evelyn pressed her body to his, pushing the hair back from his face with her hand.
The doorbell rang.
Joe growled as he pulled away from her, he smiled slightly. "I do believe your blushing."
Evelyn huffed and backed away from him. She smoothed her clothes and went to answer the door.
Joe eyed the gentle sway of her hips and quickly followed her. He pinched her butt just as she reached the door.
"Joe!" Evelyn exclaimed. "Please behave tonight."
"Yes ma’am."
Evelyn swung the door open and let Kyle and Beth in. Joe led Kyle to living room while the woman went to the kitchen. Beth insisted on helping Evelyn put the food on the table.
Joe poured himself and Kyle drinks from the bar.
"Ready to get back to real life Kyle?"
"Not really. I’ve rather enjoyed our stay in Ireland, its beautiful here. Beth likes it too."
"You should consider buying a house here. Sort of like a vacation home. We visited here in ’84 and feel in love with the place, then moved here shortly after."
Kyle looked at him a bit confused. "1984?"
Joe mentally kicked himself. "Did I say 1984? I meant 2024. I don’t know where my mind is tonight."
Kyle eyes him skeptically. "Must be the smell of dinner that Evelyn is cooking."
"Yes…yes, she is an excellent cook."
"By the way. Where is Rick?"
"Um…" Joe glanced toward the stairs. "I’m not sure, he’s around here somewhere." Joe couldn’t feel him in his mind and hoped that he wasn’t with Nick.
Evelyn came in and told them that dinner was ready. Joe and Kyle filed into the room and were about to sit down when Sav came in the back door followed by Nick.
"Sorry we’re late." Sav announced.
"Nick…" Evelyn started kissing his cheek. "I didn’t know you were here. Would you like to join us for dinner?"
"I’ve already eaten." He glanced at Sav. "A drink would be fine."
"You know where the glasses are." Joe told him.
"You wouldn’t mind getting one for me, would you Joseph? I need to introduced myself to your guest."
"I do mind….get it yourself."
Kyle felt the tension go up in the room.
Nick ignored Joe. "Nick de Brabant." And held out his hand. "You must be Kyle and Beth Manning. Pleasure to finally meet you. Rick has told me so much about you."
"I didn’t tell you anything." Sav said under his breath.
"The de Brabant of de Brabant Foundations in New York."
"Yes." Nick replied smiling.
"Rick you never told me you knew him."
"Must have slipped my mind." Sav said. "Please have a seat."
Everyone settled into their seats. Joe poured blood wine into Sav’s glass and sat the bottle down, which Nick promptly picked up and poured his own into the glass that Evelyn brought him.
"The Foundations is a large company. How do you manage to run it by yourself?" Kyle wanted to know.
"Actually I don’t. Thomas, Joe’s son does, although he has hired several associates to help with the everyday running. He has a sharp business sense and has done quiet well for the company."
"If you’re ever in need of a good lawyer, my firm handles large companies like yours."
"I have a multitude of lawyers already. However, I believe we could hire you on as another. Keep the business in the family so to speak. Is that satisfactory with you Rick?"
"Sure, fine with me."
"Wonderful." Nick smiled. He sat back and stayed out of the conversation for a while. Nick watched and observed Kyle to get a feel of what he was like. He looked relaxed and confident talking with Sav about his past.
"Kyle.." Nick leaned back in his chair. "Rick has told me that you are his son."
Joe accidentally sat the wine bottle down on the table to hard. Sav was glaring at Nick, who was steadily staring at Kyle.
Kyle wiped his mouth. "Um…no, I’m his half brother."
Nick spun his head to look at Sav. "Half brother."
"Yes. My mother met Rick, my father, while on tour and they spent few nights together. I’m sure Rick…" Kyle pointed to Sav. "…has already told you that."
"I’d rather hear it from you. What year were you born again?"
"1993."
"Ah yes, I remember now. That couldn’t have been to long before you met Lacey correct?" Nick was now staring at Sav.
"What are you getting at Nick?" Sav was getting angry.
"Just getting the facts straight." He turned his attention back to Kyle. "It would seem that your half brother has been lying to you about where your father is."
"Leave it alone Nick."
"From the information that I read he passed away several years ago."
"He did." Nick started laughing. "I didn’t realize you were dead Rick."
Sav bolted from his chair, tipping it backwards hitting the floor. "You are so intent on fucking things up for me aren’t you?"
"You’re the one that lied to him, not me." Nick shot back.
Joe caught Evelyn’s eye, she nodded and whispered in Beth’s ear. The two women stood and left the room.
"Nick I don’t think this is the time or place for this." Joe said.
"If you don’t tell him the truth I will."
"I’m warning you…."
"Kyle, Rick or Sav as everyone calls him is your father."
"I know that. So Rick hasn’t lied to me."
"You don’t understand. This is Rick Savage." He held Kyle's gaze while pointing at Sav.
