Josh was woken up early on Saturday morning my Josef patting his face. He opened and eye and yawned.
‘You’re up early pal’ he mumbled.

‘Can I sleep wif you Daddy?’ Josef asked sticking his thumb in his mouth.

‘Sure thing pal come on up you hop’ Josh said lifting up the covers ‘did you have a bad dream?’

Josef wordlessly nodded his little chin wobbling.

‘Come on up you hop’

Josef scrambled up next to Josh and wrapped his chubby little arms around his father’s neck.

‘D’you have bad dreams much?’ Josh asked drawing his son close.

‘Nuh uh’ Josef mumbled his voice muffled against Josh’s chest ‘a scawy monster was chasin’ me’

‘It was just a dream matey no monster is going to get you’ Josh said sleepily his heart swelling with paternal affection ‘you still sleepy?’

‘Uh huh Louisa’s comin’ today isn’t she?’

‘Yeah matey she is’ Josh said brushing Josef’s hair ‘just before lunchtime. When the suns up’

‘She sleepin’?’

‘Yeah matey she would be. It’s very early everyone’s in bed’

‘Okay’

Three hours later Josh was woken by all three of his sons running into the bedroom and leaping upon the bed.

'Alright alright alright you three I'm up!' he said sleepily wrestling with Sam and tickling his belly.

Sam shrieked with laughter.
‘AWWWWW DADDY I’M TICKLISH!’ he screeched squirming into the foetal position ‘Owies!’

Josh blew a raspberry on Sam’s stomach and the boy shrieked even louder.

‘Daddy you mean!’ He puffed.

‘How about we get up and get you three some breakfast huh?’ Josh suggested sitting up ‘what do you like?’

‘Chicken nuggets!’ Josef said with a toothy grin.

Josh rolled his eyes.
‘You are not having chicken nuggets for breakfast’ he said dryly swinging his legs over the edge of the bed ‘Only on your birthdays will I allow you to have chicken nuggets for your breakfast’

‘Aw but Daddy!’ Ben whined

‘No arguments c’mon I think you can do with some cereal’ Josh said holding out his hand ‘c’mon guys’

Josh was busy helping Josef, Sam and Ben draw when the doorbell rang throughout the apartment.

‘That Louisa?’ they chorused three pairs of brown eyes lighting up.

‘Uh huh I reckon so’ Josh said ‘shall we go answer the door?’

‘Uh huh’

Hand in hand with his boys Josh walked down to the front of the apartment. Josh unlocked the door to reveal Louisa in a baggy pair of trousers and a firm fitting midriff blouse, her handbag slung over her shoulder.

‘Hey you’ she said stepping into the apartment.

Josh kissed her softly.
‘Good to see you’ he said nibbling softly on her bottom lip.

‘You too’ Louisa whispered touching her forehead to his.

‘Well these are my sons Josef, Ben and Sam Jo this is Louisa a very special friend of mine. Say hello’

Louisa crouched down to Josef’s level and held out her hand.
‘Hi Josef’ she said brightly ‘I’m Louisa but you can call me Louie’

‘Hello’ Josef whispered shyly shaking Louisa’s hand ‘Daddy says you’re an animal doctor’

‘I am’ Louisa said brightly ‘I look after horses’

Josef’s eyes grew wide.
‘Oh wow’ he said in wonderment ‘I’ve been dwawing horses wanna see?’

‘Sure’

Josef and his brothers grabbed Louisa’s hands and led her down to the back of the apartment. Josh gave her a wink and patted the small of her back.
‘You’re going great’ he whispered.

Within an hour all hree boys had overcome all their shyness and was giggling and joking with Louisa.

‘Louie?’ Ben said colouring in a dog he’d just drawn.

‘Yeah?’

‘May I meet your puppy one day?’

‘Of course you can’ Louisa replied ‘maybe next time you’re at your Dad’s he can bring you and your brothers to my house and we can all go to the dog park together’

Josef lit up.
‘Oh wow wreally?’

‘Uh huh you can meet my cat Cookie too’

‘Do you have any over animals?’

‘Not yet but I will be getting some birds and maybe some goldfish. Can I name one of them Ben?’

Ben giggled and nodded.

‘Okay Monsters I think it’s time we went and got some lunch’ Josh said ‘do you need to go to the bathroom?’

‘Uh huh’ came the collective reply.

‘Go on then we’ll wait. Remember to wash your hands’

Josef and his brothers took off upstairs and Josh sat down next to Louisa.
‘You and and the boys get on like a house on fire’ he said happily kissing her on the lips.

‘We do’ she said with a smile ‘they're good kids. I was kind of apprehensive about meeting them but I worried about nothing’

Josh dipped his head and kissed her on the neck.
‘I’m glad you get on’ her murmured resting a hand low on her hip ‘offer to go sliding and you’ll have friends for life’

Louisa shivered as Josh nipped at her neck.
‘Now is not the time to start Mr Bell’ she whispered as he kissed her hungrily.

‘Pity I-‘

‘Maybe after They've gone to bed’ Louisa finished cutting Josh off mid sentence ‘not all the way just-‘

‘You know I’m not going to push you’ Josh said softly.

‘Thank you’

Moments later Josef, Ben and Sam came running down the stairs.

‘Well aren’t you three Mexican jumping Beans?’ Louisa exclaimed tickling Josef’s tummy ‘are you like this for Daddy all the time?’

‘YES’ Josh said rolling his ears dryly as Josef squirmed and shrilled ‘Noooooooooo’ ‘c’mon guys I think we ought to go and get some lunch. You hungry?’

‘Starvin’!’

Moments later all three of them were walking along toward Central Park Josef holding onto Josh’s left hand and skipping along at his side and the Twins each holding onto Louisa's hands. Josh slipped his arm around Louisa’s waist and gave her a squeeze.
‘You look beautiful today’ he whispered dropping a kiss on her temple.

Louisa went bright red.
‘Thanks’ she mumbled ‘you flatterer you’

‘Hey I like complimenting my girl so sue me’ Josh said with a goofy grin ‘and you know the saying flattery gets you everywhere’

‘Ha!’

Within forty five minutes Josh, Josef, Ban, Sam and Louisa were seated in a little burger bar near Central Park chowing down on their lunch.

‘Now Josef I hear you like sliding’ Louisa said sipping on her lemonade.

Josef nodded so hard he looked like a bobble head doll
‘Uh huh Daddy takes us all the time’ he said.

‘Would you like to go sliding with me after lunch? I know of somewhere in Central Park where we can go’

Josef lit up like the Vegas strip.
‘Oh wow wreally?’ he said.

‘Uh huh’

‘What do you say to Louie?’ Josh said.

‘Fankyou Louie’ came the collective reply.

‘That’s alright guys we’ll have lots of fun alright? Let’s see who can slide the best’

‘You slide?’

‘Uh huh, I haven’t been for a while but I used to do it all the time. Swing sets are fun too’

‘Oh wow’

‘You’ve got a friend for life now’ Josh said in amusement ‘slides and swing sets rule my sons lives’

‘They fun Daddy!’

‘Yeah Josh they’re fun’ Louisa said with a giggle elbowing him playfully ‘come sliding with us’

‘I don’t have any choice do I?’

Louisa grinned.
‘Nope’

After a long lunch Josef, Ben, Sam, Josh and Louisa headed over to Central Park and to the nearest playground. Josef and his brothers raced off to the slippery dip and immediately began climbing the ladder to get up the top.

‘Your kids are more energetic than the energizer bunny’ Louisa said with a grin as Josef reached the top of the slide and called out loudly ‘WATCH ME LOUIE!’

Josh rolled his eyes.
‘You’re not kidding’ he said as Josef slid down the slide at breakneck speed ‘they go and go and go and go. The good thing is after dinner it’ll only take half the Hungry Hungry Caterpillar or one song on the Strad and they’ll be out like a light’

‘You play for them at night?’

‘Yeah sometimes it’s either that or a story. He knows you play the violin too so you might get asked to play for him’

‘Does they have any particular favourites?’

‘Nah not really. I usually pick something soft and mellow. Lullaby by Mozart usually gets him to drop off. I tried Twinkle Twinkle Little Star a couple of weeks ago and Josef informed me he’s too old for that’

Louisa let out a great snort of laughter.
‘That’s cute’ she said as Josef raced off to climb the slide ladder again

After a whole hour of sliding down the slippery dip with his brothers Josef raced up to Louisa.
‘L-louie w-will y-you sl-ide wif us?’ he puffed pulling on her hand ‘pwease?’

‘I can’t say no can I?’ Louisa said with a grin tickling each of them in turn ‘c’mon monster I’ll race ya!’

While Louisa was off with his sons Josh pulled his Blackberry out of his pocket and texted Rachel.

‘I’m in Central Park with Louisa and the boys now’ he typed ‘they’re getting on like a house on fire, clearly they love each other. It might be too early to say sis but Louie could be the one. I’m DEFINITELY going to keep her around to find out’

No sooner had Josh put his phone back in his pocket than it rang with Rachel’s ring tone.

He sits in the tree tops all day long,
Just rockin’ and boppin and singin’ his song....’

‘Joshua Bell world famous violinist speaking’ he answered with a snort.

‘Hey big brother’ Rachel said ‘so how’s it going?’

‘Brilliant’ Josh said happily ‘right at this moment I’m watching my sons and my girlfriend sliding down a slippery dip in Central Park’

‘So the introductions have gone well then?’

‘Yeah they have’ Josh said ‘They were a bit shy at first but within ten minutes they had Louie singing and drawing horses and discussing the complexities of the Wiggles music. Jo is convinced Big Red Car is the best song whereas Louie thinks its Hot Potato. There was spirited argument there’

Rachel snorted gleefully
‘Mature’ she giggled ‘so you really think Louisa could be the one?’

‘I dunno yet Rach it’s a bit early but I feel different with her than I ever had with any other woman I’ve dated’ Josh said smiling as Louisa and Josef slid down one of the slides ‘it’s different to the point of not being describable’

‘Why don’t you bring Louisa home for Thanksgiving?’ Rachel suggested ‘I know Mom would be happy to meet her and I know Terry and T.J would too. Hell I want to meet her’

‘I might actually’ Josh said ‘it is three weeks away she could get the time off if she puts in notice now’

‘It would be great if you could bring her J you’ve got to introduce her to us all eventually’ Rachel said with a chuckle ‘are you two doing it yet?’

‘None of your damn business!’ Josh yelped feeling his face burn.

‘Sorry that was a bit nosey’ Rachel said guiltily ‘I just want you to be happy you know?’

‘I know you do Rach and I am finally’ Josh said ‘but as to your question no Louisa and I are not being intimate. She’s not ready to take that step and I’m respecting her in that regard’

‘You chivalrous little sausage you’ Louisa said with a grin ‘Mom would be pleased’

‘Oh god please don’t go and tell her’ Josh groaned.

‘I won’t I promise’ Rachel said ‘now I’m going to hang up on you because you need to continue on with your play date’

Josh snorted loudly.

‘Have fun J I’m glad you’re happy’ Rachel said ‘catch you round alright?’

‘Yeah see you later sis’

Finally when the sun started going down Josh, Josef, Ben, Sam and Louisa headed back toward Gramercy Park stopping for a quick evening meal at Pieces on fifty ninth Josef riding high upon Josh’s shoulders. and Sam and Ben skipping slongside Louisa.

‘So’d you have a good day guys?’ Josh asked as they waited at a pedestrian crossing for the light to change.

‘Uh huh I wuv slidin’!’ Josef said excitedly ‘can we do it next time Louie comes over?’

‘Don’t you think it’ll get boring Jo? Doing it all the time?’ Louisa asked reaching up and ruffling Josef’s hair ‘like chicken nuggets?’

‘Mommy and Daddy don’t let me have chicken nuggets all the time’

‘That’s because they’re special like sliding. And they’d get boring if you had them all the time like sliding. I mean Daddy doesn’t take you sliding all the time does he?’

‘Nuh uh’

‘How about next time you and your brothers visit Daddy you both come over and come walk my puppy with me?’ Louisa went on ‘I live on Long Island and there are lots of dog parks where we can feed ducks and there’s an aquatic centre too maybe we can go swimming. Can you swim?’

‘Uh huh Daddy taught us’

‘How about we go swimming next time we meet up then? Is it a date?’ Louisa said holding out her hand.

Josef shook her hand with a giggle.
‘Uh huh’

‘Well you three seem to have made your own arrangements I’ll just be the taxi driver shall I?’ Josh said dryly as the light turned green.

‘Thanks that would be great’ Louisa said with a grin squeezing his hand.

As they entered the grounds of Gramercy Park Josef and his brothers began yawning.
‘I think it’s bed time for you young Misters Bell’ Josh said firmly swinging Josef down off his shoulders and putting him on his hip.

‘Aw Daddy!’

‘No aw Daddy’s from you you’ve had a full day’ Josh said firmly as they arrived at his apartment ‘four hours of sliding today’

Josef made a face.
‘You know the rules mister’ Josh said setting his son down ‘say goodnight to Louie and go and brush your teeth I’ll be up to help you in a minute’

‘Okay’

Josef led his brothers upstairs.

‘You’re doing a good job with them you know’ Louisa said softly rubbing Josh’s back ‘they're very polite kids half of the adults I know don’t say please or thankyou’

‘Thanks’ Josh said kissing her forehead ‘I better go and get the Strad out they normally want a song’

‘You look almost as tired as they are’ Louisa said in amusement ‘do you need help getting into your pyjamas?’

‘Ha ha’ Josh said heading for the stairs ‘you’re assuming I wear anything to bed’

Louisa went bright pink. Josh gave her a wink and disappeared up to the second landing. Louisa put the kettle on and went to the living room where she kicked off her shoes and started going through Josh’s CD collection. She had just selected one on Josh’s CD’s ‘Romance of the Violin’ and was about to put it in the stereo system when Josh called her from atop the second landing.

‘Louie?’

Louisa turned around to see Josh atop the landing bow and Strad in hand.
‘You want help with your pyjamas after all?’ Louisa said with a giggle.

Josh rolled his eyes.
‘Ha ha’ he said dryly ‘no the boys want to ask you something before the goe to sleep’

‘Okay then’

Louisa padded up the steps and followed Josh to Josef’s room a spacious comfortable room decorated with posters of the Wiggles, racing cars and musical notes.
‘Heya guys you wanted to ask me something?’ she said sitting on the side of Josef's bed that was adorned with a racing car duvet set.

‘Go on she won’t bite’ Josh said in amusement as Josef went pink.

‘Um Daddy says you pway the wiolin’ Josef said in a small voice.

‘Uh huh I do’ Louisa said brushing Josef’s fringe out of his eyes ‘though I’m not as good as your Dad’

‘Um can you pwease play a song for us? Daddy says it’s okay’

Louisa felt a lump form in her throat.
‘You really want me to munchkin?’ she said.

‘Daddy says you’re wreally good’ Ben said

‘Oh does he now?’ Louisa said turning around and staring Josh out with a raised eyebrow.

‘I may have I don’t really remember’ Josh said picking at the strings of the Strad

‘Will you pwease pway for us Louie?’ Sam pleaded ‘just one song?’

‘Aw okay then you did ask me nicely’ Louisa said ‘what song would you like? Your Dad told me you think you’re too old for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’

‘Uh huh we are’

I’ve got an idea then’ Louisa said as Josh came over and gave her the Strad ‘one song then its bed time alright you promise?’

‘Uh uh I pwomise’

Josh sat next to Josef and Louisa went and sat on a nearby toy box. She put the Strad under her chin and immediately began softly playing Puff the Magic Dragon. Josef, Ben and Sam lit up and Josef nuggled up to Josh watching Louisa play.

Louisa closed her eyes and lost herself in the children’s song one of the earliest she had learned to play when she fist picked up a violin twenty five years earlier. She quickly forgot she was performing for a three childrn and played as if she was the only one in the room.

Josh watched Louisa play and felt the affection he felt for her increase with every note she played. Every time he went out with the pretty redhead he fell harder and harder for her more than he had for any of his previous girlfriends. He wasn’t sure where their relationship was heading but was looking forward to finding out.

Ben and Sam fell asleep long before Louisa finished playing and Josef was dopey as the last note rang out. She played the song til the end then took the Strad from under her chin and tucked it under her arm. Josh tucked his sons in and switched on a night light bathed the room in a soft muted light.

‘That’s a first never have they all fallen asleep before the end of a song before’ Josh whispered as they left the room ‘well done’

Louisa went pink.
‘I was glad to do it’ she said as Josh shut the door behind them ‘remember Puff the Magic Dragon for the next time they want a song’

‘I’ll do that’ Josh said taking the Strad from her ‘you head downstairs I’ll follow in a moment alright?’

Louisa kissed him on the lips.
‘Okay’

Josh headed off to his bedroom and Louisa made her way downstairs to the kitchen. She was in the middle of making hot chocolate when Josh came in. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her on the neck.

‘Finally some alone time’ he whispered in her ear.

‘Hmmm you’re being very touchy feely this evening Mr Bell’ Louisa said with a giggle as his hands wandered all over her.

‘D’you blame me?’ Josh asked as he rubbed circles on her abdomen ‘you’re beautiful’

‘The milk is going to boil over if you keep feeling me up’ Louisa said with a giggle playfully elbowing him in the stomach.

‘What are you making?’

‘Gourmet hot chocolate’ Louisa said tipping a cup of chocolate buttons into the saucepan of milk ‘this is a recipe of my own creation. Never give a mug of it to the boys or they'll go off on a sugar high’

‘Almost smells as good as you’ Josh said with a chuckle.

‘You’re an arse kisser Joshua David Bell’ Louisa scolded him.

‘Yup I am’ Josh said cheerfully retrieving two mugs from under the bench ‘is it working?’

‘Hmm maybe’

Louisa served up the hot chocolate then put the dishes in the dishwasher. She and Josh then made their way through to the lounge room. Louisa sat between his legs and leaned back.

‘Mmm this is comfy’ she said sipping on her drink ‘I had a good day today’

‘Glad you did’ Josh said softly brushing her hair with they was a babe magnet’

‘If I didn’t think I’d get your hot drink all over me I’d elbow you in the guts’ Louisa said ‘I’m not a babe’

‘To me you are’ Josh whispered.

‘Thanks’

After they had finished their drinks Lisa got up and put the CD she had picked out earlier in the stereo system and closed the CD tray.

‘Dance?’ she asked holding out her hand as the music softly began to play.

Wordlessly Josh got up and went over to her wrapping an arm around her waist and drawing her close.
‘Ah I recognize that CD’ he said as they swayed on the spot.

‘I wanted something romantic and that was the first thing I came across’ Louisa murmured putting her head on his chest and listening to the strong beat of his heart ‘I hope you don’t think it’s too corny listening to your own music’

‘Nah it’s good’ Josh said ‘how long can you stay?’

‘A little while yet maybe a couple of hours’ Louisa said.

‘Stay the night’ Josh said after a few minutes of silence.

‘J I’m n-‘

‘I know you’re not ready to take that step yet’ Josh said hurriedly ‘you don’t have to sleep in my bed sleep in one of the spare bedrooms there’s two more. Please trust me I’m not pushing you. I don’t want you to do anything you’re uncomfortable with’

‘I’d like to but I didn’t bring a change of clothes or anything to sleep in’ Louisa said ‘thankyou but maybe it would be better another time. I’ve got to go home and feed Cookie and Mocha’

‘No hurry’ Josh said kissing her on the lips.

‘Plus when I do eventually spend the night it’s probably best if I do it when the boys aren’t here. I’ve only just met them If they see me here first thing in the morning they're going to go home and tell thier Mum and she already doesn’t like me she might not let you see the boys if she hears I’m spending the night’

‘Oh who cares what Lisa thinks you’re the one that matters to me now’ Josh said wrapping both arms around her.

‘Thank you but I’m going to politely refuse your offer’ Louisa said ‘give it a couple of weeks when I can organise someone to mind Mocha and Cookie alright?’

Josh pressed a kiss to her forehead.
‘Sounds good’ he said ‘Oh I was talking to Rachel today. She rang me while we were in Central Park’

‘Hmm?’

‘You’ve been invited to the Bell Family Thanksgiving celebrations’ Josh said ‘everyone wants to meet you. Especially Rachel I’ve been going on about you to her for weeks’

‘Oh you have have you?’ Louisa giggled ‘should my ears be burning?’

‘No I’ve just been telling her how much I’m enjoying your company’ Josh said ‘she’s the one who invited you to the Thanksgiving get together. Would you like to come?’

‘Yeah I would’ Louisa replied ‘if I can get the time off work I’ll definitely come’

Josh threaded his fingers through her hair and kissed her hungrily.
‘I’ll tell Mom to set and extra spot at the table then’ he said nibbling on her bottom lip ‘it’ll be nice to have you there’

‘I look forward to it’

Finally at ten PM Louisa decided to leave.

‘I’d love to stay but Mocha and Cooke would be starving by now’ she murmured and she and Josh pulled apart from yet another heated kiss on the couch ‘I’ve had the best day’

‘So have I’ Josh said softly running the pad of this thumb over her swollen lips ‘you look thoroughly kissed’

‘Well that’s what I’ve been doing for the last two hours’ Louisa said going pink and slipping her shoes back on ‘that was the best part of today’

‘Wish you would stay’ Josh said getting up and following her to the front door.

‘You know why I’m not’ Louisa said softly getting on her toes to kiss him again ‘maybe soon huh?’

Josh returned the kiss the kiss fervently.
‘Maybe soon’ he whispered ‘you have a safe drive home alright?’

‘I will I’ll text you when I get home’ Louisa promised ‘talk to you soon’

‘See you soon beautiful’
