Chapter 9: Christmas Day
"ANDY! ANDY! ANDY! ANDY!" Andy shot up from her bed and rushed to the bedroom door and opened it, "WHAT?!"
"IT'S CHRISTMAS!" Ethan yelled throwing confetti all over her. Andy looked at her watch and saw that it as five in the morning.
Lynn grumbled as she came up to them and looked at Ethan with sleepy eyes, "I thought you weren't a morning person," she said resting her head on Andy's shoulder.
"He isn't but it's Christmas. He did this last year. I'll be down in a bit," she said and he gave them both a quick hug and rushed down the stairs.
Last night after the service they went back to the town house and Andy made them some hot cocoa. Lynn went on to explain how she saw Alexa and then saw Cacie. She panicked, rushed out, and went straight to the church.
Andy confessed that Kara warned her about Alexa being there. But she was more focused on everything else that it slipped her mind to tell her. Lynn was a little upset after Andy's confession. She walked out of the kitchen and went into the living room. Ethan said he was going bed and Andy waited a few minutes before she walked into the living room.
She sat down in one of the chairs and just let Lynn sort through her feelings. She just wanted to let her know that she was there. They sat in silence for another hour before Andy sighed and said that she was going to bed.
While she was getting ready Lynn was standing in the door frame and rushed up to her and wrapped her arms around her. They both apologized and they stayed in each other arms for a few more minutes then, Andy gave her some clothes to sleep in.
Just as they were about to go to sleep Lynn's phone started to ring. When she answered she heard her mom's voice. Lynn left the room just as Andy got ready to go to sleep. She turned on the TV and hit play on the DVD player and turned off the light. She got into bed and put her phone on her nightstand, plugged in her charger. She wanted to take pictures of tomorrow and needed a fully charged cell phone.
She could feel herself drifting off to sleep. She didn't know how long she was asleep for when she felt Lynn crawl into bed. She turned over and wrapped her arm around Lynn's waist and pulled her closer. She heard Lynn sigh and she brought her hand to her lips and gave the back of Andy's hand a small kiss. Within moments the two were fast asleep.
Now here they were grumbling because Ethan decided to wake up super early to open presents. Andy smiled at Lynn as she walked back over to the bed and laid down.
She sat down next to her and brushed some hair out of her face, "I'm gonna go down there and open presents with him. It's a new thing we started when we moved in together. Also, he's making his Christmas breakfast. Stay up here as long as you like," she leaned over and kissed her forehead.
She was about to get up when Lynn grabbed her hand, "Wait, I'll go too. Seeing how he's excited and all." Andy smiled and helped her up and they both walked out of the bedroom.
When they got downstairs Ethan was in the kitchen cooking up a storm. Andy smiled as she walked in, "Ethan's Christmas breakfast I sacrifice my stomach for," she said as she started to make the coffee.
Lynn pulled Andy's hoodie tighter around her as she smelled the wonderful scent of sweet and salty in the air. She sat at the bar and watched the two interact with each other. She thought back to a few years ago when her, Brian, and Alex were in the studio by themselves just goofing around. They forgot all about the pressure of making music and having to set tour dates. Even trying to film a new music video. They were just carefree and at the time they didn't have a worry in the world.
"You okay love?" Andy asked putting down a coffee mug in front of her.
Lynn just smiled and nodded, "Yeah, just thinking about the guys."
"Oh, for once you aren't thinking about Andy," Ethan joked and the two of them blushed.
"Speaking of the guys, they're on their way over," Andy said looking at Lynn with a smile. She looked at her and her smile became bigger. She got out of her chair and wrapped her arms around Andy and she returned the hug.
They gently pulled away and Lynn rested her forehead against hers, "I figured you could use them this morning. I also asked if Angel could bring you some clothes to change into."
"You're amazing," she whispered.
Andy just shrugged, "Eh, I do my best," they were leaning into each other and their lips were just about to meet.
"Fuck!"
They both heard and their heads turned and Andy saw Ethan rushing to the sink. She let go of Lynn and rushed over to him. He ended up burning his hand on one of the pan handles because it was over one of the hot surfaces of the stove and he wasn't paying attention.
"Where's the first aid kit?" Andy asked.
"Downstairs bathroom under the sink," he said and Andy looked at Lynn. Without another word she rushed to the bathroom to look for the first aid kit.
"Okay, good thing we deal with these at work huh buddy," she said and he laughed. His burn wasn't too bad. There was a redness on his palm and it started to blister.
"Yeah, only difference is this hurts so much worse," he said through gritted teeth.
Lynn came rushed back into the kitchen and put the first aid kit on the counter next to Andy. She gave a small smile and a quick thanks then opened the kit. Lynn watched as Andy found what she was looking for and took Ethan's hand and carefully started to put a cream on his palm. She saw Ethan sigh with relief and watched Andy put the cream down and she went back into the kit and grabbed a piece of gauze and medical tape.
Andy expertly started to dress Ethan's hand and Lynn watched in amazement on how calm she was during the whole process. When Andy finished with the gauze Ethan thanked her and gave her a hug. She returned the hug and asked how he was feeling. He told her that he was better and that he just needed help with breakfast.
"I got you," she said and patted his back as they pulled away. She cleaned up the wrappings and put the first aide kit aside and went to help Ethan with breakfast.
Andy's cell phone started to ring and she asked Lynn to help Ethan. She gave her a quick kiss and walked out of the kitchen.
"Hello?" Andy walked into the hallway and started to pace.
"Yeah, she has no idea. I figured everyone here in their pajamas would be awesome. Plus I don't think she should be away from her family today. Just thought it would be easier."
"Perfect! Thank you so much! Everyone can open their presents here. Then, go over to Tim and Cathy's to continue the festivities. That works. Okay, see you soon." She hung up her cell phone and walked back into the kitchen with a smile.
She came up behind Lynn and wrapped her arms around her waist, "He didn't burn anything did he?" She asked jokingly and Ethan have her a glare. She laughed and walked over to the cabinet and started to grab some plates.
"Who was on the phone?" Lynn asked.
"Brian, they're on their way and should be here in the next ten minutes or so. I asked him if they were still in their pajamas because how else do you opening up presents on Christmas morning." Andy said smiling refilling their cups of coffee.
Ethan was just finishing up cooking breakfast and started to put food on their plates. Lynn's eyes widen when she saw how much food he made. There was no way she could eat all of it.
Andy saw her face and then looked at Ethan, "I think you might wanna go light on Lynn's plate," she said with a smile and he winked at Lynn and nodded. He started to make up her plate and went lighter on the food. He gave the plate to Andy and she put it in front of her with a smile.
Andy stood on the other side of the counter bar and started to clean up just as Ethan finished up putting the left over food on other plates. If they wanted seconds they could grab some. Ethan's Christmas Breakfast consisted of French toast, bacon, sausage links, over easy eggs, hash brown crowns, sliced country ham, orange juice, and a cup of coffee.
Ethan took his plate and sat down next to Lynn and Andy was standing across from them with her plate and she looked at him, "You REALLY out did yourself this year," she smiled and took the dish towel off of her shoulder.
"By the way," Ethan stood up and walked out of the kitchen.
After a few minutes he came back into the kitchen and put a small pill bottle down in front of Andy. She picked it up and looked at him, "Where did you get this?"
"I called Trey, asked him if he could find it and send it. Came in the day after we got here. Just forgot about it until you said something about your stomach yesterday."
"What is it?" Lynn asked started to cut up her French toast.
"It calms my stomach for when I eat stuff like this." She explained looking at the pill bottle.
"Where was it? I thought I lost it three weeks ago."
"Trey said he found it in our kitchen medicine cabinet tipped over behind the Advil."
"Well, shit. I called my doc for another bottle but she said it would take a while, thanks buddy." She smiled looking at him as she opened the bottle. She popped the little round blue pill in her mouth and took a sip of her orange juice.
"When did you start having stomach problems?" Lynn asked as she watched Andy starting to eat. She held up her finger indicating to let her have moment because well, she didn't want to talk with her mouth full of food.
Once she was able to swallow she looked up, "About three years ago, when I started working out and dieting.
When I reached my goal, Ethan took me out for pizza to celebrate and when I got home that night my stomach wasn't agreeing with me. I just thought it was a one time thing because I haven't had any kind of greasy food for a while. Then, all the food I used to love was messing everything up. So I went to my doctor and she told me my body changed because of my diet. She gave me some medicine to help with that. So now I take one of these bad boys."
She held up the bottle, "Before I eat and I'm right as rain. But I thought I lost the bottle so I put in a call and my doc said that it would take a little longer because of the Holidays. So she gave me a list of what was okay to eat until then."
"Lynn she's a walking disaster. Are you sure you would like to pursue a relationship with her?" Ethan asked holding his fork like a microphone and held it out for Lynn.
She winked at Andy, "Yes, I would," she said.
Andy threw a dish towel at Ethan, "Asshole." They laughed just as the door bell rang.
Andy rushed over to the front door and opened it. Ethan and Lynn could hear exchanges of "Merry Christmas's" from the door and Andy started to direct every body to the living room. She walked back into the kitchen and walked up to Lynn, "Don't be mad, but I invited your family." Lynn was going to protest but Andy stopped her, "Lynn, I know what they did was wrong, but just let them explain. I almost lost my mom last year and she's barely fifty. Plus after your tour, I don't think you would want to be away from your family, especially on Christmas."
"Andy," she said softly.
"Wait, I have one more thing to say," Andy said putting up her hand.
"I think you and Alexa need to talk. Wait, wait, just listen. I don't think you got the closure you needed about your relationship with her. I also feel like she has this affect on you and I know you want to move forward with me. But if just the sound of her name is getting to you, then I don't think you could be truly happy with me until you find out why Alexa fell in love with some one else. So after you talk to your parents here. We're going over to their house for the party and you and Alexa are going to sit down and talk about everything. You two are going to lay everything out on the table.
Lynn, I want to start the new year fresh with you. A clean slate. I had closure with Nicole eight months ago. Whatever you and I have, I want it. But I don't think we can move forward until you let go of Alexa." Andy heard some one clear their throat and she turned around and saw Tim and Cathy standing there.
She nodded and looked at Lynn, "Just listen to what they have to say." She looked at Lynn and softly kissed her forehead and then put her forehead against hers, "Just listen," she said softly and turned around and walked out of the kitchen. Tim patted her back as she walked out and gave her a smile. Cathy touched her arm gently and smiled at her as well.
Cathy took a tentative step towards her daughter with Tim right behind her. It was time for them to explain what happened last night.
********************************************************************************
"Okay, I think everything's sorted out," Andy said as she looked around at everyone who each had a pile of gifts in front of them. About twenty minutes after leaving Lynn with her parents they came out of the kitchen with smiles. She smiled knowing they worked through everything. That was one talk down, now Lynn just had to have one more. She knew she wasn't going to look forward to that one, but she had to have that talk one day. That one day would be today.
After Lynn gave her parents another hug she walked over to Andy and kissed her cheek and thanked her for what she did. Andy smiled and kissed her temple and then started to help Ethan sort out the Christmas presents.
"How do you want to do this?" Ethan asked.
"Let the parents go first and then the rest of us will go. Figured it would be easier that way," she said with a smile. Everyone nodded and the parents started to open their presents from everyone. Ethan and Andy looked at each other every time they came to one of their gifts hoping they would like what they picked out from their hometown.
It didn't take long for them to open up their gifts. A lot of smiles and wide eyes were going around. Hugs, and Thank You's were going around as well as 'You shouldn't have's'. Ethan and Andy started to clean up the torn wrapping paper just to get ahead start for cleaning.
"Okay, we've opened ours, now it's your turn," Lisa said with a smile looking at the younger adults in the room.
Ethan and Andy looked at each other and smiled, "We'll go last, everyone else can go first. We'll clean up some of this stuff first." Andy said with a smile as Ethan came back with another trash bag to put the torn wrappings in. Brian was already ripping open his gifts and Angel just rolled her eyes as she started to unwrap hers.
Andy was in the kitchen with Ethan helping him clean it up. Since they both didn't think they would have time later and would also be too tired. He was putting the leftover food in containers and Andy was doing the dishes. Another reason they were in the kitchen is because they didn't want to see the reactions from their new friends. Some of the things Andy got Lynn were things that some one would get their girlfriend. So since they are not in a relationship, watching her open those gifts would be a little nerve wracking for her.
She let out a long sigh as she finished washing the last plate and putting it in the dishwasher. She closed it up and started to clean around the sink.
"OH MY GOD!" They heard Alex from the living room.
She looked at Ethan and all the color went from his face, "What did you get him?"
"I found a DVD of Iron Maiden. The year Alex saw them for the first time."
"WHAT?!" They heard Lynn say.
"The Nightmare Before Christmas?" Ethan asked.
"Collector's Edition."
"DUDE! NO!" Next was Brian's coming through.
This time they looked at each other, "Holes."
"Are we done?" Andy asked as she turned off the water and dried her hands with a dish towel. They both looked around and Ethan picked up another dish towel and started to wipe down the counters.
"I think so," he said and wiped his hands with Andy's dish towel.
"I guess we should get back in there so we can clean up the wrappings." Andy said but she didn't move. Ethan nodded and he didn't want to move as well.
"Okay we're really leaving the kitchen right now," she said looking at him.
He nodded, "Yup, this time we're really leaving the kitchen." Again they both just stood there.
"Why can't we move?" Andy asked.
Ethan shook his head, "I have no idea." The two of them stood in the kitchen looking at each other. They didn't know why they couldn't move. Maybe it was because they didn't want to see the reactions from the trio. Or maybe because they didn't want to open their gifts from them.
Either way the two of them couldn't find the courage to move their feet. They just stood there in the kitchen frozen like statues.
"Ethan, we need to get back in there," she said touching his arm.
"I know, but how do we get our feet to start moving? It's like I forgotten how to walk or something."
She nodded, "I know what you mean. I keep telling myself to start walking, but I can't move."
"Okay, this time we're going to move. One, two, three," he said and again they didn't move.
Lisa came into the kitchen and looked at them, "What are you two still doing in here? Come on, they're almost done opening their gifts and you two are up next." She grabbed their hands and all of sudden they were able to walk. They looked at each other with confused looks. As soon as they reached the living room Lisa let go of their hands. Then, two went right to work cleaning up the torn gift wrappings.
Hannah and Robert came up to them and took away the trash bags, "It's your turn now," Robert said with a smile. Both Ethan and Andy looked around and saw that their piles were the only ones left. Now, all eyes were on them. They both gave a weak smile and started to walk to their piles, which some how ended up in the center of the room.
Lynn, Brian, and Alex were watching them with big smiles and Andy could tell they were ready to burst. Ethan looked at his best friend and she looked back at him, "I don't know where to start," he whispered to her.
"How about we start with what we got each other, then whatever their parents got us, and then what the trio got us," she whispered back. He nodded and they both started to go through their gifts and picked out the ones that they got each other.
Everyone was watching them open their gifts and the doorbell rang. Tim said that he would get it and for them to continue what they were doing. He walked over to the door and opened it and saw Mark. He smiled, shook his hand and invited him in. He followed him towards the living room and smiled when he saw Ethan and Andy laughing because they ended up getting each other three of the same things.
Lynn looked up and saw Mark and smiled. He walked over to where they were and said that they needed to talk once everything was settled down. He got news from the label and he had to tell them right away.
They watched as the two best friends started to open the gifts from their parents. Lynn turned to Mark, "How about right now? We've got the time." Mark nodded and the three followed him into the hallway.
"How did you know we were here?" Brian asked.
"Oh, I called Tim earlier this morning and he said everyone would be here," he replied.
"What's the news?" Alex said crossing his arms.
"Well the tour was such a big success that they want you to tour again starting in February, and ending in March. The last date would be March 17th in Mexico City."
"Where are we going this time?" Brian asked.
"Going to start on the east coast and work our way west this time. It's another North American tour."
"When do we leave?" Lynn asked leaning against the wall.
"Well we would have to start traveling a couple of days before so we'll be hitting the road on Febuary 13th. The tour kicks off in Atlanta on Febuary 15th." They all looked at each and smiled.
"Already got backstage passes for those two," Mark said with a knowing smile and pulling out two lanyards from his back pocket. "Matter of fact, it's my Christmas gift for them."
"After this tour, it'll be time to start shooting music videos and working on some new material for your next album. We do need to shoot an announcement video day after tomorrow, and yes they can be there. What's kind of weird is that right after Atlanta we're going to Virginia. If those two would have just stayed a little longer they would have been able to see you there instead." Mark finished with a small chuckle.
"There you are, come on they're about to open your gifts," Brian Sr. said walking up to them. They all smiled and started to walk out of the hallway.
"When should we tell them?" Brian asked.
"Let's wait until they finish and we'll announce it then," Alex said and Lynn nodded as their attention went back to Ethan and Andy opening the rest of their gifts.
Alex and Lynn were feeling pretty nervous because they didn't know how they were going to react to their gifts. Alex was careful when he picked out a few things for Ethan and he wasn't sure why. He had a small smile when he saw him open up one of this gifts and it was a small box and inside was a very nice ring. Not just any ring it was a Black Tungsten ring. It was a black band with a blue and black checkered design.
Ethan looked up at Alex, "Oh my God. This is incredible thank you." He said still with a shock expression on his face.
"Andy gave me your ring size. I hope it fits."
Ethan smiled and took the ring out of the box and put it on his right ring finger and showed it to him, "Perfect fit. Wow, Alex, I don't know what to say, but thank you." Alex tried to hide his blush. He didn't know why he was blushing. But he was glad that Ethan loved his new ring.
Ethan grabbed another gift and it was from Brian. He looked up and saw him with a big goofy grin on his face.
"I'm scared to open this because of the face you're making right now," he said looking at Brian with a suspicious look. Andy looked up and saw the two of them exchange looks.
"Is that what I think it is?" she asked with a small smirk. Brian just nodded with such enthusiasm that he looked like a bobble head. She shook her head and watched as he torn into the gift. Under the wrapping was a gift box and he opened it up and inside was an apron. He stood up and unfolded it and started to laugh.
The in all caps it read, "DON'T FORGET TO BEAT YOUR MEAT!" There was a little flap and with Andy sitting right there she opened it and everyone saw a small hole. The room was filled with laughter and Ethan just shook his head, "I wonder if Chris will let me wear this," he said through his laughter.
"Thanks Brian, I'll be sure to wear this often!" He said and carefully folded it back up and put in the box. He set it aside along with all his opened gifts.
He picked up his last gift and it was from Lynn. It was a long rectangular box and Andy had to help him with it because he said it was a little heavy. He started tearing through the wrapping and again there was a gift box and he opened it up. His eyes went wide and so did Andy's.
"Andy told me you love 'Lord Of The Rings' and I figured you would like this." Lynn explained with a smile.
He took the staff out and stood up. It was a replica of Gandalf's staff. He looked over at her and with a look of disbelief. "Thank you," he whispered and then looked at Andy.
"Dude I thought she was gonna get you the DVDs or the ring or something. But not this." She said raising her hands in defense.
He carefully put the staff down and walked over to them and gave them each a tight hug. "Thank you guys. I couldn't ask for anything better," he said with a big smile. He walked back over to Andy and sat down next to her.
"Okay, best friend your turn to open theirs," he said with a knowing smirk.
"I hate it when you give me that look," she said shaking her head and picked up a gift that was from Brian. She tore through the wrapping and there was case that said "Invicta" on it. She looked up at Brian with shock, "You didn't," she whispered.
He smiled and nodded, "I did." She opened up the box and inside was a Swiss Made Pro Diver watch. It was black and sliver and she couldn't believe she was holding a watch she always wanted.
"You said you would take a watch from Europe. I saw this in the store while we were over there and thought of you," he explained.
She shook her head and looked up at him, "Thank you. Oh my God. Thank you so much!" She carefully closed the box and set it aside with her other opened gifts.
"Open my next!" Alex said, he honestly couldn't wait for her to open his. She laughed and grabbed his gift and opened the deep rectangle box. She looked up at him and smiled. The box contained a Slytherin uniform onesie. Along with a pair of socks that had the tie on them and ribbons coming off of them.
"Ethan told me how much you love Harry Potter and that your house is Slytherin. Also that you've been asking for one of these for the last three years and never got one." He explained and Ethan gave him a wink.
"I'm so wearing this tonight for bed!" She said with excitement and everyone laughed. "You think I'm kidding! I'll have Ethan take a picture and send it you and everyone we know!" She really wanted to put on right now, but she knew if she did she wouldn't take it off.
She put it back in the box, "Thank you Alex! Just so you know Ethan when I come home from work I will be putting this on!"
"Oh great," he said rolling his eyes but then smiled and patted her on the back. She reached over and grabbed three of her last gifts, they were all from Lynn. She looked up at her and smiled, "Do I need to open them in a certain order?" She asked.
"Open the big one last," she replied and Andy nodded. She reached for the small square box and tore the wrapping, under the wrapping was a gift box and she took off the lid and inside was a ring. Not just any ring but the same exact ring she had on her right ring finger. She took it out of the box and it said the same thing the ring she had. "Walk By Faith, Not By Sight."
"Ethan said you were thinking about getting new one because those words mean a lot to you," she explained. Andy smiled and looked back at her the ring. Without a second thought she took off her old one and replaced it with the new ring. She put her old ring in the ring box and closed it. The old ring will always hold a place in her heart and she already knew what she wanted to do with it.
She looked up at Lynn and smiled, "Thank you! I've actually been trying to find a new one for about two years with no such luck. Thank you," she said and turned her attention back to the two remaining gifts.
She reached her second gift which was the size of a shoe box. She of course assumed it was shoes. She tore through the wrapping and discarded the wrapping paper. She pulled the tape off the box and lifted the lid and looked inside. She didn't take anything out because her head shot up and looked at Lynn.
"Well Ethan said they are your FAVORITE band," she said trying to sound a little sassy but couldn't help but smile. Andy started to take out a set of CDs, a couple of t-shirts, and a zip up hoodie. The two shirts and the hoodie were black and red; Andy's favorite colors, and the word TRAPT across them. The stack of CDs were the albums the band released over the years and there was also a couple of DVDs with their live shows.
"Ethan also said how you wanted to get their band logo tattoo. So I called a buddy of mine and made an appointment for you tomorrow at three." Lynn told her. Andy was speechless. She didn't know what to say. Looking at what she had in front of her in the box she couldn't believe it.
Lynn smiled, "The look on your face right now is thank you enough. Open your last one," she said.
Andy just slowly nodded and put everything back in the box and put it aside. She brought the larger gift in front of her and she kneeled on her good knee in order to open it.
"Is this the one you re wrapped, because the stacks weren't working?" Alex leaned over and asked and she nodded.
Andy ripped through the wrapping paper and discarded it and pulled the tape off of the box. Once she opened it she stood up and took a step back and looked up at Lynn. The look of shock on her face was more than the one she had when she opened the gift before. Lynn walked up to her and the box was separating them. She looked confused because she could have sworn that Ethan said this is what she wanted.
Andy took a step towards the box and kneeled again and started to pull out the books. Lynn followed Andy's lead but let her pull out the books. It wasn't until she came to a particular book she stopped. Andy looked at the cover and used her other hand to gently touch the words, "The Stranger."
She could feel the tears coming but she blinked them back. This book was her lifesaver time and time again. She lost her copy when she was a teenager, and when she got older she found another copy. But then ended up loosing that one too. Holding this book again in her hands was one of the feelings she could never seem to describe. She set the book down in a different spot than the others and started to pull out the rest of the books.
Another book she stopped and looked at and couldn't help but lean back. "Hawksong," another book that helped through a dark time in her life. She could remember reading this book when she was in high school and it helped her escape reality for a few hours. She looked at it for a few more moments and set it down right next to the other one.
She pulled more books from the box and couldn't believe that Lynn had gotten her the complete series of these books. All looked brand new and fresh. Once all the books were out of the box she looked up at Lynn and she didn't know it but a few tears escaped her eyes. Lynn reached over and touched her cheek using her thumb to wipe another escaped tear.
Andy cleared her throat and smiled, "Oh, man, I'm sorry. I didn't think I would get emotional like this," she said sitting straight up and watched Lynn move the box away, closing the distance between them. They wrapped their arms around each other and Lynn could feel Andy's body slightly shaking. Which only made her hold on tighter.
Andy pulled away from Lynn and smiled, "Thank you so much. These books, these authors, helped me through a few dark times in my life. Just holding them again brought back so many memories. Thank you." Lynn leaned in and gave her a soft kiss.
They pulled away and smiled, "Best Christmas ever," Andy whispered.
"I couldn't agree more," Lynn whispered back and gave her one more kiss and they pulled away. Lynn stood up and nodded over to Mark, Brian, and Alex. The three of them walked to the center of the room just as Ethan and Andy moved their unwrapped gifts out of the way.
"First, I want to congratulate these three for selling out their whole UK tour last month," Mark said and the room was filled with cheers.
When the cheering died down he took a deep breath and let it out, "Now, I come bringing news from the label. Since this last tour was such a successful one they want to do another one. But not as long. This is a small North American Headliner tour starting in Atlanta and ending in Mexico City. February 15th, will be the start of the tour and ending on March the 17th. So just a small tour. Nothing big like the last one was, and this time we're staying close to home, in a sense.
Also you two," he said pointing at Ethan and Andy. He walked up to them and gave them the backstage passes, "Since we kick off in Atlanta, figured you guys wanted to go, so I got you the backstage passes. I also put you on the list for early entry and all you have to do is show up four hours before show time and I'll meet you by the stage."
The two best friends looked at each other and smiled, "Thanks Mark! I was just thinking about how much the meet and greet tickets were going to be," Andy said and the room filled with soft chuckles.
He turned back around and started to address the room again, "We will be shooting a video for the announcement as well when tickets will be going on sale. After the tour, it will be time for them to start shooting music videos, as well as working on their third album. In between that, there will be time for them to rest and be able to see their family and friends. I'm also glad to say that I will be on tour with them again."
"Yes!"
"Oh, thank God!"
"Fuck yeah!"
The trio all replied at once and everyone laughed. Everyone cheered and hugs started to go around. Andy and Ethan smiled and looked at each other, "What did we sign up for?" Ethan asked.
Andy just shrugged, "Like you told me, let's just see where this goes." He smiled and put his arm around her. She was worried that they were going on tour again, but then again she was excited. Next year was going to be a big year not only for the trio but also for her and Ethan. Their move to Georgia and the two of them running a restaurant that they've always wanted to. Also having the three of them in their lives, they couldn't ask for anything better.
**********************************************************************************
Andy was standing in the archway sipping on her cup of coffee as she watched Lynn and her family exchange gifts. She watched as she was opening a small gift from one of her younger cousins and gave the little girl a hug. Ethan came up beside her, "Would you have thought in a million years we would be here with them?" He asked.
Andy shook her head, "Nope. I thought we would be in Virginia still trying to find a house."
"Look at us now, here with our new favorite people, about to move into a house, learning the ins and outs of running a restaurant. You and Lynn finding each other and now you two seem inseparable and happy. I couldn't ask for a better way to end the year, and a better way to start the new year." He said hugging his best friend and she hugged him back.
"I couldn't agree more," she said as they pulled away.
After Mark made the tour announcement they all gathered up their gifts and sorted them out. Tomorrow morning Ethan and Andy were going to send their gifts to Trey so that way they wouldn't have to shove extra stuff into their luggage. Plus they didn't think they would be getting so much. Everyone helped clean up and move everything back to the way it was. As every one was leaving Tim pulled Andy into the kitchen for a quick talk.
"Alexa and Cacie are coming by the house around two to talk to Lynn. I know you already told her that they needed to talk. I feel that this talk will help with whatever Lynn has been going through the last couple of years."
Andy nodded, "I couldn't agree more. I would like to move forward with Lynn, but I can't if she keeps shutting down by the sound of her name. Also next year she has a chance to have a clean slate. I'll be there to help her. I know the risks of being involved with her, I'm willing to take my chances. But right now, I just want her to get this weight of her shoulders."
Tim smiled and put his hand on her shoulder, "Andrea, you keep surprising me every day. I look forward to meeting your parents one day and tell them they have raised a wonderful daughter."
"Thank you sir. I think you and my dad would hit it off," she said with a smile.
He gave her a hug and pulled away, "We'll see you in a few hours right?"
"Yes sir," she smiled and watched as he walked away.
She was about to follow him when he turned around, "Oh by the way don't worry about dressing up. Causal is fine. Jeans, t shirt, sneakers, the works."
Andy nodded, "With all due respect sir, I always dress up for Christmas. I don't really get to do it often." She confessed.
He walked up to her and put both of his hands on each of her shoulders, "Andy, I expect you in jeans, a shirt, and sneakers. That is an order young lady," he said with a smile.
She nodded, "Yes sir."
"Good, I'll see you soon, and stop calling me 'sir,'" he gave her another hug and walked out of the kitchen just as Ethan was walking in. The two shook hands and Tim made his way to the front door where he helped Cathy with her coat and they walked out of the town house with their gifts. It was time for them to get their house ready for their guests and hold their Christmas party.
"What was that about?" Ethan asked as Andy started to make a pot of coffee.
"Alexa and Cacie are going to be at the party." Ethan tried to hold back his shock.
"Why?" He finally asked after a few minutes of just looking at her. The coffee machine beeped and Andy started to make them both a cup.
"You know how you were against me going out to lunch with Nicole?" She asked and he just nodded as he took the coffee mug from her.
"Then, when I came home I told you that I finally had closure to why she left me the way she did." Again he nodded.
"Well this is kinda like that. Lynn needs to find out why Alexa left the way she did. Nicole pretty much left me because I worked too much and didn't have time for her. But that's what Nicole was feeling. So Tim, Cathy, and I talked about it early this morning, after I texted Brian and well we think Lynn just needs to know the why."
Ethan sat down and took a sip of his coffee and looked at Andy. She knew that he was debating on what to say next. He was either going to say that it was a good idea, or he was going to tell her that she should have just let things be. But instead he asked, "So what makes you think she needs this talk?"
She set her mug down and looked at him, "Because if you haven't noticed just by saying Alexa she would tense up and put her guard up. The one time I saw it come down was when we were at lunch the other day. Also when Lynn and I were shopping for you guys she rushed me out of that store faster than a cheetah chasing its prey."
Ethan nodded, "Got ya, okay, I see what you're saying. At first I thought it was a bad idea, but yeah, I see where you're coming from. You also want to start fresh with her and by the two of them having this talk they can lay everything out on the table."
"Exactly. By the way Tim just ordered me to wear casual clothes," she said with a chuckle.
"You, casual? Yeah right," he said with a scoff and took his coffee cup and went upstairs to get ready.
"Hey! I can be casual!" She shouted after him and rushed up the stairs.
Now, here they were standing in the archway watching everyone smile, laugh, talk, and just being care free.
"By the way, you're still not casual. Just because you're wearing a nice blue button down, unbuttoned with a white under shirt, a pair of jeans, and your sleeves rolled up. Still doesn't make it casual."
"In my defense the only t shirts I have are white undershirts and the two shirts Lynn got me for Christmas. I was not about to come up here in that. What's wrong with my button downs? I think they're nice." She said looking at her shirt.
Ethan rolled his eyes, "Yeah, but your arms seem like their suffocating. Geez Hercules!" She playfully punched him in his arm and he laughed and rubbed the spot where she punched him.
"Hey! Having a good time?" David asked as he walked up to them and they both nodded.
"Oh yeah, can't wait to come back next year." Ethan said putting a hand on his shoulder.
"Awesome! I gotta tell ya, I don't think I've seen any of them take to new people the way have with you two. What's your secret?" He asked jokingly. Lynn watched the three of them talking and couldn't help but smile watching them smiling and talking, with a laugh here and there. They stood there for a few more minutes and then they started to follow David towards the back of the house. Lynn wanted to follow but her cousins were keeping her busy because they wanted to hear stories of life on the road.
Alex was giving Mark's daughters piggy back rides and Brian was teaching his younger cousins how to play the percussion box. The three of them were so happy to be back with their families for Christmas. This was one of the things they could all agree on. Was to be home for Christmas no matter what. They were in Europe during Thanksgiving and that was really hard, but being here now was the best gift any of them could ask for. They wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
Ethan, Andy, and David were sitting on the some deck chairs out on the deck. Last night he and Tim shoveled the deck off and put some deck chairs around a small fire pit that David lit up.
"I know it's early but, I heard Alexa would be here any minute and I don't want to be in the house during that time."
"Why not?" Ethan asked.
He sighed and looked up at his two new friends and then back at the fire. He took a moment to gather his thoughts. He wanted to choose his words carefully because of how he felt about his sister's ex-girlfriend.
"When I first met Alexa, there was something about her that was off. I didn't know what it was, and I didn't want to tell Lynn, because she was so happy. She was in love for the first time in her life, and I didn't want to take that away from her. Then, she called me a month before they were about to release their first album." He took a deep breath and let it out and used the poker on the fire to move one of the logs.
"At first it was small talk, but I knew something was wrong and she didn't want to tell me. I didn't want to bring up her relationship, because I always let her lead the conversation. She didn't seem that excited for their first album to come out and I could tell in her voice something was wrong. After about ten more minutes of just bullshit talk she finally told me.
I didn't know what to say. I didn't want to tell that I was sorry that they broke up because I wasn't. I was happy, I didn't want to tell her that everything was going to be alright because I didn't know. I just asked her what happened and she told me." They heard the door open and they turned around and saw Alex and Brian walk out of the house and sat down in the other deck chairs. They didn't say a word and just smiled and nodded at the three of them which the three returned.
"Then," David said continuing with his story, "A few months later I get another phone call from her and I could tell she had been crying. It took everything in me not to get in my car and drive to where she was and just give her a hug. She didn't talk and then I heard Brian's voice on the phone and he told me everything. When she was finally able to talk to me I told her that I never really liked Alexa. I told her that there was something off about her."
The backdoor opened again and they saw Kara and Mark walk out. They all knew at this point what was about to happen.
David took another deep breath and finished his story, "When she asked me why I didn't tell her the first time, I told her that I didn't want to ruin her happiness. She understood, but I knew she was hurt that I wasn't honest with her. I was really worried about her the last couple of years. But she pulled through because of these two over here," he said pointing at Alex and Brian who just smiled.
"Now, I have both of you to thank, and especially you." He said using the poker to point to Andy.
"I don't get a bad feeling from you, and I don't have hesitation towards you, which is good. I get the same thing from you Ethan. Even though it's only been a few days of getting to know the both of you. I feel as if I've known you for a long time, and I thank the universe or what ever higher being there is for bringing the five of you together." He finished with a smile and just as Ethan and Andy were about to thank him they heard the door open again and out came Cacie.
That's when Alex and Brian stood up and Alex's attention went towards the window that looked into the kitchen. He saw Lynn and Alexa sitting across from each other. He nudged Brian who looked in his direction. The two didn't have to say a word, they just smiled at everyone and walked inside so that they could be close to their best friend if she needed them.
Mark and Kara followed them just as Cacie slowly started to make her way towards the three that were still sitting there. Cacie sat down in one of the vacant chairs. There was a tense silence and Andy pulled out her vape and took a huge breath in and let it out. She really wished she had a cigarette at this point since Cacie was sitting across from her. A few more minutes passed and Cacie finally spoke up, "Can I talk to Andy alone for a few minutes?"
David and Ethan didn't say a word. They both looked at each other and nodded. They stood up and at different times both put a hand on Andy's shoulder and both gave her a gently squeeze. Andy kept her eyes on the fire as they both walked back into the house. This was the last place she wanted to be right now.
Here. Alone. With Alexa's girlfriend. The two women sat in silence not knowing what to say. It took all of the Andy not to get up and walk away. This felt as if Nate wanted to talk to her. Andy kept her eyes on the fire and her mind was racing, but her first concern was Lynn. Was she okay? How is her talk going? Would this help her? All these thoughts were running through her mind. Right now she didn't want to be here. Right now she wanted to be somewhere else. Anywhere else. For the first time since she's been here this was the last place she wanted to be.
"Did you hear me?" Cacie asked looking at Andy.
She looked up at her and shook her head, "I'm sorry, what did you say?"
"I said, are you liking Boston?" Andy wanted to smirk and shake her head but she didn't.
She leaned forward and put her elbows on top of her knees, "We could do the bullshit small talk, or we can get to the point." She said looking at Cacie. She wasn't sure how to feel, but she definitely didn't want to have small talk.
Cacie sighed and nodded and put her hands in her jacket pockets to warm them up. She knew what she wanted to say, but she didn't know how. She looked at Andy and saw that she was looking into the fire again and this time she knew what she wanted to say.
"I thought you and I should talk about what happened between Lynn and Alexa." Andy shook her head and sat back in her chair and took a puff of her vape.
"Whatever happened between them is in the past. This talk they're having is so Lynn could get closure, because just sound of her ex girlfriend's name makes her tense up. All Lynn needs to know is why Alexa left her for you." Cacie just nodded understanding why Andy was being cold towards her.
"I know exactly how Lynn feels, because my ex left me for someone, and for two years she was seeing him behind my back. If you're about to tell me that you and Alexa just clicked and it just happened, then you can save it because I heard it all before. I've always said that you can't help who you fall in love with, and you really can't. But when you're in a relationship and you start falling for someone else and keep from them, I think it's the ultimate betrayal."
Cacie was hanging on every word that Andy was saying and she couldn't believe that she pretty much said what she was going to say.
Andy sighed and leaned forward again, "Look, I'm sure you and Alexa are happy as ever and that's great I wish you both the best. But it's going to take time for me to get used to you two being around. That is if Lynn wants you both around. But as of right now, I don't know if I can be around the two of you. I know there's two sides to every story. But at the same time some one always gets hurt. The words will change but the story remains the same.
Some one once told me that when a couple breaks up and some one else moves on to another person quickly after the break up it means that some one was unfaithful at some point. Then, I realized that some people just have rebound relationships that either work or don't. It all depends on the person." Andy stood up and looked at Cacie, "Again I wish you two the best, and I hope you both spend the rest of your lives together. I may not know you, but I forgive you. I am a Christian and forgiving is the hardest part. But I forgive you and I forgive Alexa. It's just up to Lynn to do the same." With that Andy turned and walked back into the house leaving a surprised yet relieved Cacie.
Cacie sat and stared into the fire for another few minutes when she heard the door open and saw Alexa walk out. They two didn't say a word as she stood up and the both of them wrapped their arms around each other. They both knew that things were going to be okay as long as they had each other.
********************************************************************************
"Marinara sauce was just all over me! I was covered!" Andy said and everyone around the fire laughed. The day turned to night and the seven friends moved out onto the deck and David started up another fire in the fire pit. They were all gathered around the fire and Andy was telling the story of when she first started at Ynot and how one night while she was closing and she slipped and fell.
Not too long after Lynn and Alexa's talk was over Cacie and Alexa left the party. They had to go back to their families and continue on with their festivities. Alexa was putting on her coat and watched as Lynn walked into the den and walked up to Andy who was looking out the window. Andy smiled and put her arm around her and kissed the top of her head. The two of them didn't speak but just watched as fresh snow started to fall.
It was in that moment that Alexa knew Andy would be the one for Lynn. A small part of her was jealous, but she knew that their talk was what they both needed. She took Cacie's hand and they walked out of the house and into the next stage of their lives.
"Are you okay?" Andy asked as her and Lynn watched Cacie and Alexa get into their car and drive off.
Lynn just nodded, "Yeah, I'm glad you talked me into doing that. I now know why we fell apart."
Andy turned and looked at her, "Do you feel as if you had your closure?" She nodded and touched Andy's cheek.
She smiled and took her hand in hers, "I have one more thing for you," Andy whispered and pulled out a small wrapped gift box from her back pocket.
"Babe, you gave me the DVD I've always wanted, a small silver ring with my birthstone, a notebook and pens, and a very nice Canon camera. What else could you possibly have?" She asked taking the gift box.
"My birthday wish to come true," Andy whispered and Lynn looked at her with a smile.
She lifted the small lid and saw a folded piece of paper. She took it out and unfolded it and read the words:
"You told me to make a wish on my birthday and I did. You then told me to wish for it again. My birthday wish is this: Lyndsey Gunnulfsen would you do me the honor of going on a date with me?"
Lynn smiled and looked at Andy and wrapped her arms around her neck, "I would love to," she said and the two leaned in and their lips met. This was a Christmas neither of them would forget.
Now, here they were, Andy finishing up her story and everyone was listening and laughing. "So for three months I was known as 'Marinara Andy.' Then it was 'Two Spag Andy.' Now every one calls me Andes like the mint chocolate."
"How did you go from Andrea to Andy? I meant to ask you a while ago but never got around to it." Brian said.
Andy took a sip of her hot cocoa and nodded, "When my sister learned how to talk she couldn't say Andrea and she kept saying 'And' when she was around three or four. Then, when I started going to school I would come home and she would run up to me and say, 'Andy home!'
It was then my mom figured out why she kept saying 'I want Andy' and would keep crying when she said she didn't know who 'Andy' was. She was the only one the called me that up until I was in high school and I started to really answer to 'Andy.' My parents still call me Andrea and so do some of our family friends, and now when I hear Andrea I get confused to be honest. Only because I've been going by Andy for so long forget my real name sometimes."
"The looks on some of our co workers when her dad calls up to the restaurant and he asks for Andrea are priceless. Because they know her as Andy. One time a girl was training and her dad called up for something and he asked for Andrea. So she started to ask around. But no one around knew Andy's real name. We go through a lot of people. Don't ask. Anyway, I finally told her to go get Andy. She asked why and I just told her to tell her that the phone was for her. " At this point Andy tried to hide her laugh and Ethan took in a deep breath because he didn't want to laugh and talk at the same time.
"She looked at me like I was crazy but went to get Andy. So she comes rushing out of the back and goes up to the phone and answers it. The new girl just watched as Andy was on the phone with her dad. When she hung up I walked up to her and she told me what was going on. Then the new girl came up to us and asked us why did Andy have to answer the call. I told her cause that was her dad. She said that it was Andrea's dad and Andy nodded and told her that it was her dad." Andy started to laugh.
"I finally told her and she started to say sorry over and over and over again. Because she thought Andy was a boy." Ethan finished shaking his head and laughing.
"How many times do you go into the women's bathroom and they give you weird looks?" Angel asked.
Without a moment's hesitation Andy said, "All the damn time."
They continued to ask Andy and Ethan more questions about anything and everything and everyone was enjoying the Christmas night. After about another twenty minutes of conversation Lynn whispered in Andy's ear and she just nodded.
"Lynn and I have something to tell you guys," Andy said and she stood up and cleared her throat.
"So back in October Lynn told me to make a birthday wish and I did. It partly came true, then she told me to make it again and I did. Earlier today I got my birthday wish."
"Which would be what?" David asked.
"To go on a date with Lynn Gunn of PVRIS," Lynn said and everyone cheered.
"About damn time geez!"
"Shut up Ethan!" The six of them said.
They all laughed and said told the two that they were happy for them and that it took them long enough for them to have an official date.
"I know you might not want to talk about it, but how did your talk go with Alexa?" David asked and Lynn sighed and looked at her brother. Andy sat back down and took her hand and gave her a gentle squeeze.
"To be honest, I'm actually glad Andy told me to do it. Now I know why she went to Cacie and why she fell out of love with me."
"What was the reason?" Nicole asked.
"Just timing really. We were hitting it big and well on our way to the top and she was trying to keep up and just couldn't. She found comfort in some one else that was on the same level as her where I wasn't. She will always be the first one I experienced everything with, but I think I've finally let go of a lot of anger and hurt that I've held onto for so long."
"I'm proud of you. I think we all are," David said winking at her and everyone nodded.
"How about you Andy? What did you and Cacie talk about?" Alex asked.
Andy just sighed, "It was more of what I said to her and how I said it."
"Please don't tell me you went 'Angry Line Andy.'" Ethan said closing his and putting his face in his hands.
"More like 'Frustrated Line Andy.'"
"What did you say?" Lynn asked.
"Well long story short I said that even though I don't really know her and Alexa I forgive them. Uhh, that what ever happened between Lynn and Alexa was between them. Not to tell me that they just clicked and that they just happened because I've heard it all before. I knew how Lynn felt because my ex did it to me for two years. You can't help who you fall in love with, but keeping it from the person you're with is a betrayal. Finally, I wished her and Alexa happiness and hope they spend the rest of their lives together. Needless to say, I didn't really let her get a word in."
Every one just looked at Andy with shocked expressions on their faces. She looked around and just shrugged and took a sip of her hot cocoa and looked back into the fire. They all looked at each other trying to find the words to say and Ethan was the first to speak up, "Well, yup that is Frustrated Line Andy."
"But look at it this way, Lynn you can move forward with Andy and start new." Brian told her and she smiled and nodded.
She kissed Andy's cheek, "Yeah, I guess you could say that."
"Has anyone talked to Erika about you two?" Alex asked.
"Who's Erika?" Ethan and Andy asked.
"Oh boy...." Alex said.
