"Come break me down,
Bury me, bury me."

"What's in the bag?" Luke questioned as he sat in the front seat of her car.
"None of your business," Kelly replied.
"Where are we going?"
"None of your business."
"Um, actually, it kinda is."
Kelly let out a slight laugh that trailed off as she pulled over onto the side of the road.
"No," Luke said firmly, looking out the window.
"Yes," Kelly replied, turning the car off. "Now come on, we don't have much daylight left."
"I'm not going."
"Get the hell out of my car, Luke."
"You know, there was a time when you used to be nice," he narrowed his eyes, undoing his seatbelt.
"Back when I was stupid and cared, right?" she countered, as they got out of the vehicle.
"Whatever," he rolled his eyes.
Kelly grabbed the bag from the backseat, bringing it with them, "So I noticed you weren't at the funeral."
"So?"
"So, that's a kind of shitty thing to do to your best friend, don't you think?" she asked as they walked through the cemetery.
"I thought we weren't supposed to curse."
"Luke, you are really starting to piss me off."
He frowned, shoving his hands into his pockets.
Kelly took a deep breath as they came to a stop in front of the small grave. She hadn't been there since the funeral herself--it just made it all too real. She reached into the bag, pulling out a fresh bouquet of flowers, replacing the ones that had started to wilt.
"Why are we here?" Luke asked softly, his voice having lost the edge of moments before.
"Because you need to see this," Kelly replied. "And she needs to see you. You realize that you probably broke her heart by not coming to the funeral?"
"She's dead. It's not like her heart can feel anyway," he kicked the grass.
"That's not true," Kelly argued, fighting with all she had to not let the tears fall. "She's probably looking down on us right now, wondering what the heck took us so long to come visit."
Luke stared down hard at the ground, his blonde hair easily shading his eyes.
"I miss her...so much," Kelly admitted. "And it hurts. Everyday, it hurts."
"She wouldn't believe that," he shook his head.
"Why not?"
"Alex thought you were a superhero. That you were there to save her. Guess she was wrong, huh?"
Kelly brought a hand up to cover her mouth as she choked back a sob.
"I'm just saying what she told me," he said softly.
"Yea," Kelly sniffed. "Well she told me once that you and I were the only family that she had, and that was good because we were the only ones that she wanted to have anyway."
"She was a sweet kid."
Kelly reached once more into the bag, pulling something out, "She wanted you to have this."
"No," Luke shook his head, backing away.
"Luke, take him," Kelly said, handing him his old teddy bear.
"He was supposed to protect her," Luke explained, holding on to Mr. Bear. "But I guess that's about as dumb as Alex thinking you were a superhero, right?"
"I don't think it's dumb. I happen to know that that bear saved her from a lot of nightmares and monsters under the bed. She said it was because her big brother gave it to her, and Mr. Bear would tell the monsters all about her big brother and how he would come and beat them up if they didn't go away."
Luke started to shake slightly as the tears rolled down his cheeks.
Kelly reached out, pulling him to her as he broke down in her arms, holding onto the teddy bear tightly. "I know," Kelly whispered, smoothing a comforting hand over his hair.

"Kelly," Luke began as held her hand in one of his own, holding Mr. Bear in the other while they walked down the hospital hall. "I'm sorry about the other day...I was wrong."
"I know," Kelly nodded. "But it takes an awfully big person to admit when they're wrong, so I'm proud of you."
"You think we can go visit her again next time you come?"
"Sure," she replied. "If you promise me that you won't stay locked up in your room, and that'll you go out in the game room every now and then."
"Even tonight?"
"Nah," Kelly shook her head, letting go of his hand as they reached his door. "You've had a long night. Why don't you get some rest. I'll get a nurse to sneak you an extra pudding."
"Ok," he gave a soft laugh.
Kelly smiled.
"I'm sorry I was so mean to you."
"Don't worry, when I was ten, I was way more of a handfull than you."
"Why don't you talk about when you were younger a lot?"
"Not a lot of things worth mentioning," she shrugged.
"Alex said that you talked to her about it."
"Yea, well, you know how she was. She could weasel her way into anything."
"Yea," he smiled. "Maybe, some time, could you tell me some of the stories you told her?"
"Sure," Kelly nodded, realizing he was looking for a way to feel closer with Alex. "But not tonight, ok? It's getting late, and you do need some rest. I'll see you soon, though."
"Ok," Luke nodded, waving slightly. "See ya."
Kelly waved back, watching as he walked into his room.
