Chapter One: The Wedding Reception
&*&*&
"Why don't you tell him how you feel?"
"Who? What are you talking about?" James asked.
Lily smirked, "The man you keep staring at. I know you have feelings for him. It's pretty obvious."
"I don't have feelings for your husband!" James exclaimed as he fiddled with his tie.
LilyLily raised an eyebrow. "I was referring to the person Remus is talking to.""Sirius? I'm not staring at Sirius," James replied, trying desperately to stop looking at his best friend. It was next to impossible, considering Sirius looked extremely handsome in a suit with his long hair pulled back.
"Oh really?"
"Erm, yeah," James said weakly.
"Look James. It's obvious that you like Sirius, perhaps even love him."
"He's my best friend. Of course I love him!"
Lily rolled her eyes. "James, give me a break! I've seen you watching him."
James sighed and tugged at his messy hair. "Am I that obvious, Lil?"
"To me you are. People who don't know you as well probably wouldn't notice. Why don't you say something to him, James? He watches you, too, you know."
"Really?" James asked hopefully. "He does?"
Lily smiled. "You're best friends, James. You're both gay. What have you got to lose by trying? You should say something."
"What have I got to lose? Come on, Lily! I could lose him!"
"I seriously d tha that, James. When Remus and I return from our honeymoon, I expect you and Sirius to at least be dating."
James snorted and grabbed another glass of punch.
&*&*&
"Do you have any idea what I just said?"
"Hmm? You're talking about the honeymoon. Of course I'll watch over your cats, Moony."
"Gee, Sirius, I stopped talking about that over five minutes ago," Remus said, grinning. "Why don't you go ask him for a dance?"
"Who? What on earth are you talking about?"
"James and the fact that you obviously want him," Remus whispered.
"You're not making any sense," Sirius replied as he forced himself to stop looking over at his best friend who was currently talking to Remus' new wife.
"Aha. Really, Padfoot. James is only your best friend, huh?"
"Unfortunately, yes, so-" Sirius clamped his hand over his mouth and groaned.
Remus laughed and patted his friend on the back. "It's okay, Sirius. I had already figured it out anyway."
"This is your wedding reception, Moony. Shouldn't you be over there with your bride?"
"In a second," Remus replied. "Think about it, Siri. You're both gay and-"
"Ahh," Sirius interrupted. "You're straight and so is McGonagall. Does that mean that you two should shack up?"
"Merlin, Sirius, only you would say that," Remus sighed. "You and James are best friends. You're both gay. You both watch each other almost all of the time."
"Wait," Sirius said as he set down his glass of punch. "He watches me?"
Remus grinned. "Most of the time we've been talking, he has had his eyes on you, Sirius. He wants you, and I'm convinced of it. While Lil and I are in Paris, I fully expect you to be hooking up with James. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go talk to my wife. Perhaps you should talk to-"
"James," Sirius interrupted. "Yes, I know."
"Good luck," Remus said, winking.
&*&*&
"They're a cute couple," James said as he walked up to Sirius.
"I agree. So, what are you doing tonight?" Sirius asked nonchalantly.
"Dunno," James said, shrugging his shoulders. He cast a sideways glance at his best friend. "What're you doing, Siri?"
Sirius wiped away some loose strands of hair and looked at James. "Nothing planned. Want to hang out?"
"Do you even have to ask? We're best friends, Siri. Of course we can hang out."
Sirius grinned.
"Do you mind if I change clothes?" James asked as soon as he and Sirius entered Sirius' flat.
"Not at all. Wanna wear something of mine?"
"If you don't mind," James replied. "I hate wearing suits."
Sirius shut his door and tossed the keys onto a table. "You look good, though."
"You're just saying that because you're my best friend."
"Nah, not really," Sirius replied carefully. "As your best friend, I'm allowed to be one hundred percent honest with you, Prongs. I can tell you when you look good and when you look bad."
James kicked off his shoes and then took off his jacket. He untied his red tie and threw it on the couch. "You've never told me I looked bad, Siri," he said as he unbuttoned the first few buttons of his white shirt.
"Exactly," Sirius said. "Are you hungry?" he asked, walking into the kitchen.
"What do you mean by exactly?" James called out from the living room.
Sirius reappeared in the doorway. "I mean that I've always been honest with you, James. I would never lie to you and you know it. If I say you look good, then you look good. If I never say you look bad, then that means you have never looked bad."
Sirius started walking back into the kitchen and then paused and turned around. "I guess I could always ask your mum for some pictures of you from when you were younger. Maybe she could dig out a few photos of you looking just dreadful," Sirius said, while laughing.
James groaned and picked up a pillow off of Sirius' couch. He threw it at his best friend who merely chuckled. "You know damn well I had to have been an adorable child!" James exclaimed as he joined Sirius in the kitchen.
"Naturally," Sirius replied. He opened up the refrigerator and pulled out some carrots.
"You're going to eat carrots?" James asked, taking a seat at the kitchen table.
"No, I was going to pierce my ears with them," Sirius replied sarcastically. "What do you think, Prongs?"
James smirked. "Just asking."
"Indeed," Sirius said as he sat down at the table and started munching on carrots. "I'm trying to be healthier. Want some?"
James raised an eyebrow. "I suppose so." He grabbed a carrot and began to nibble on it. "Why exactly are you trying to be healthier, Siri? You exercise nearly every day, and it's not like you over-eat. You look damn good, so what are you on about, anyway?"
"You think I look good?"
s,"s," James replied warilnbspnbsp;"Why are you on a diet?"
"You're trying to change the subject, Prongs."
"Am not, Padfoot. This is what we were talking about in the first place."
"Whatever, James. I'm not on a diet. I'm just trying to eat better."
"Why?"
"Why do you care so much?" Sirius asked as he started munching on another carrot.
"Because I care about you, Padfoot. You're important to me," James replied sincerely.
"Are you dating anyone?"
"Excuse me?" James asked. "What brought that up?"
Sirius shrd hid his shoulders. "Just wondered. You haven't talked about seeing anyone for a while now. Almost half a year, come to think of it."
"Well, neither have you," James pointed out.
"Perhaps I have my eye on someone," Sirius replied. He finished his carrot and then pulled off his tie and jacket. "Want anymore?"
"No thanks. They have no taste. Who do you like?"
Sirius snorted and put the remaining carrots back into the refrigerator. "What makes you think I'll tell you? You never even answered my question about who you're seeing." He looked at James curiously before leaving the kitchen and walking towards his bedroom.
"Where are you going?" James asked following. "And you should tell me. We're best friends. We tell each other everything."
"To Saturn. And do we?" Sirius asked as he entered his room. He took off his shirt and then started sifting through his chest of drawers. "What do you want to wear?"
James stood in the doorway, admiring his view of Sirius' chest. "Any T-shirt will do."
"Here," Sirius handed James a shirt and a pair of jeans. "Will this work for now?"
"Perfect," James replied, grabbing the clothes. He tried his best to ignore Sirius, who was pulling a shirt over his head and tugging on a pair of tight jeans. Eventually, James caved in and simply 'Sirius-watched.'
"Are you waiting for me to leave while you change?" Sirius asked, standing up.
"Why would I do that?" James asked. "How many years did we share a room, Siri?"
"A lot," Sirius replied, smiling. He pulled the hair-band out of his hair and started brushing his long tresses. "'Course, then you became the all-important Head-Boy and had your own room, soooo .."
James rolled his eyes. "I will never ever understand how I got that position with my record."
Sirius laughed and looked in the mirror, supposedly at his hair, which he was still brng. ng. However, he had a clear view of James, who was changing his clothes rather slowly.
When James finished getting dressed, Sirius put down his brush and pulled his hair back again. "Wanna watch some TV or-"
"Sounds good," James replied.
Sirius smiled and followed his best friend into the living room where both men sat for several hours pretending to be watching the television. In reality, they were admiring each other non-conspicuously for over an hour.
Finally, things started to get interesting
