Harmony walked down Rodeo Drive glancing in store windows admirering the clothing she knew she could never afford. This vacation took forever to save up for, and she couldn’t spend much while she was here. Harmony had hoped to do some sight seeing and maybe spot a celebrity or two. Thus far her L.A. trip had turned out to be very disappointing. She had no one to see things with as her friend Carlie had bailed on her, opting rather to go to Cancun, Mexico. ‘Ugh, she flies off to Mexico with her new boy-toy and I get stuck here alone’ she thought to herself. She wasn’t a fan of high temperatures and L.A. had been awful since she arrived. This vacation had been Carlie’s idea, and Harmony was feeling quite peeved with her friend. She was sweating in the hot afternoon sun as she had chosen to wear her normal attire, a hoodie, t-shirt and an old pair of cargo pants. This would have been quite normal if she were still in New York, but she wasn’t. Harmony was quite shy and didn’t wish to draw attention to herself, though she feared she was doing just that, dressed like she was, in such weather. It had to have been in the high 80’s, maybe even low 90’s. Harmony wished she were back in her hotel room so she could take a cold shower and change. But she had taken a bus here, and it wouldn’t be worth it to go back now, so she trudged on ignoring the searing heat and her dry throat. “I should have brought water” she mumbled to herself.
As she made to cross the street she noticed a crowd standing in front of a shiny black limousine, she turned around and made her way towards the gathering of screaming young girls, shielding her eyes from the glare the car gave off. ‘I wonder who they’re all looking at’ she thought. She stood on her toes craning her neck to see what they were all so excited over. Slowly the crowd moved forward apparently to allow whoever they were mobbing to go into a store. She gasped as the crowd parted and she saw him, someone she never imagined she would see in real life. She saw him in her dreams almost nightly. “Orlando Bloom” she mumbled scarcely able to move she stood silent mouth agape. As Orlando was entering the store she tht, ht, no she was almost certain he had noticed her standing there, ‘yes, he had looked right at me’ she thought. She lingered there for a moment unable to move just going over in her mind what she had just seen, when a young girl bumped into her. “Sorry Miss” she apologized looking terribly flustered and she picked up Harmony’s backpack and handed it back to her. Harmony was almost certain though, that she had dropped it before, not had it knocked from her hands. “It’s alright hun, thanks.” The girl offered her hand and introduced herself. “Hey, I’m Rose, from San Francisco, you from around here?”
“No, no. I’m from back east. New York, I’m Harmony, nice to meet you.”
“You here for Orlando?”
“Orlando? Oh, no. I had hoped to spot a star or two but had never in a million years expected Orlando Bloom”
“Yea, he’s here for a premier tomorrow.”
“Wow, what movie?”
“Troy”
“Oh, I’m dying to see that, the idea of a prince starting a war for love. To die for.”
“YES!” Rose made a high pitched squeal type sound that hurt Harmony’s ears, but Harmony just laughed.
“Are you going to wait for Orlando to come out?”
“I don’t know, I think I should love to meet him. But I’ve already made a fool of myself and I wasn’t even close to him” Harmony said and looked to her feet embarrassed.
Rose laughed, “Oh dear, I made a fool of myself as well the first time I met him. Truth be told I make a fool of myself quite often.”
Harmony smiled at that and looked in the direction of Orlando’s limo. “You know, I think I will wait. Would you like some company?”
“Of course I would! Come on.” And the girls walked over to wait outside the store.
It was almost an hour waiting, and the girls wondered what was taking him so long. “Maybe he’s having clothes sized” Rose suggested.
“Yea, maybe, you know what? I need a drink. I’ll be right back.”
“Okay, but I hope he doesn’t come out before you get back Harmony”
Harmony took off running and waved back “I’ll hurry!”
She looked up and down the street searching for a grocery store or outdoors stand that would have liquid of some sort, she was parched. Off to the right she spotted one of those ever present Starbucks, she sighed resigning herself to the mere thought of what a bottle of water would cost in that place. She hated Starbucks, they were everywhere, and they were big. She hated popular things. Music, heart-throbs (Orlando was a great exception, she knew he has far more depth to him than his pretty face), and especially chain stores.
Harmony walked back in the direction of her new found friend and a man who could make her heart stop just by existing, let alone looking at her. She’d always told her friends he would be the death of her, a vegetarian, animal lover, artist, and just a genuinely sweet guy who happened to resemble what she imagined a god would, no should look like. She drifted off into her thoughts, playing a scene in her mind. How she imagined it would feel to meet Orlando, how she would react, and then how he inevitably would take her into his arms and never let her go. She knew though if she didn’t gain a bit of self control and remember to breath he would simply think her another silly young fan who only wants to stare. ‘Just breathe and you’ll be fine’ she thought to herself and she spotted Rose standing against the wall to the store waving. Harmony smiled and waved back holding a bottle of water for her new friend as well. She didn’t have much money but she was always taught to be generous with what she had. “Hey, he come out yet?” she askeddingding Rose the bottle of water.
“Thanks. No he hasn’t, he’s certainly taking a long time in there eh?”
“You think he may have left some other way?”
“You know, I hadn’t thought of that. Maybe”
“Should we go in?”
“Heh sure if they don’t throw us out for not buying anything.”
“You wouldn’t want anything?”
“In a men’s clothing store? No I have plenty of ties thank you” Harmony laughed
“Okay let’s go on in smarty”
The girls walked in slowly looking around at the clothes and casually glancing towards the back in search of Orlando. “Psst, Harmony, see anything?”
“Nope, not a thing, but hey check this out.” Rose walked over to see Harmony was starat aat an autographed photograph of Orlando hanging on the wall. They both awwed in unison.
“He’s such a sweetheart isn’t he?” The photograph read “Ange, x OB thanks” and a big old heart above it all.
Harmony turned around to continue the search for Orlando, and a man coming to ask if he could help them banged right smack into her, and she fell.
“Owww”
“Harmony, you okay?”
“Yea, I’m good.”
“I’m sorry Miss” the salesman helped her up. “Can I help you two?”
“Uhm, no we were kind of just looking around actually”
“Okay, feel free to come to me if you need anything” He smiled and walked away.
“I don’t think we’re going to find him, we might as well go” Rose shrugged and started for the door.
“Hey, wait, wouldn’t this look so great on Orlando?” Harmony said pointing up to a shirt hanging on the wall. Rose reached up for the sleeve to check the price. “Only fifty bucks.”
“Ha, I’d get it for him if I ever thought I’d meet him. I’d love to see it on him”
“I’ll split the cost with you if you want” Rose dug into her purse to collect twenty-five dollars. Harmony thought about it and pulled her wallet out of her pocket.
“You carry a wallet?”
“Yea I don’t really like looking so girly and normal” Rose just laughed at her and turned to walk towards the counter. No one came out so they rang the little bell on the counter. Harmony heard voices coming out of the back, and peered around the corner to see if she could see anything.
“Oh…my…god ROSE”
“What? What?”
“It’s him, he’s back there.”
The salesman walked through the doorway and smiled. “Found what you were looking for eh?” he winked. The girls blushed. “We did”
The cashier rung them up, and then Orlando walked out still chatting with the fellow who worked in back, he looked like a tailor.
Orlando noticed the girls and smiled and continued talking.
“What should we do?”
“Let’s go wait up front, we don’t want to disturb him.” Harmony grabbed Rose’s hand and ran up front by the doorsey sey stood and watched Orlando for a good fifteen minutes before he made to leave.
Rose squeezed Harmony’s hand. Harmony thought to herself, if only there were romanticic pic playing in the background this would be perfect, and she let out a small chuckle. Rose turned to look at her confused, then her attention went quickly back to Orlando. He looked up and smiled at the girls again.
“Ladies” he nodded.
“Hello Mr Bloom”
“Hello”
“Uhm, we waited around so we could have a chat with you. I hope you don’t mind.” Rose wore a permanent grin.
“No, of course not.” He smiled.
Harmony felt herself melt every time he smiled. ‘Oh that man’ she thought. He nodded to Harmony “Hello” she looked down at her feet feeling herself go red in the face.
Suddenly she felt herself go weak at the knees she grabbed ahold of Rose’s arm to steady herself. She had to regain her composure, this had to go well. She wouldn’t make a fool of herself again. She looked up to face him and reached her hand out to shake his. “Hello, Orlando.” He took her hand in his and she just about died. His skin, his hands that she had so admired were touching her skin, her hand. She looked into his eyes, the eyes that melted so many hearts all over the world. She couldn’t help but smile, his eyes were such a deep beautiful chocolate and she was staring into them. The handshake seemed to last an eternity, while he and Rose engaged in a conversation about Lord Of the Rings.
They were laughing and chatting but all Harmony could do was stare. She was letting her moment slip by, she would jump into the conversation. She had seem Lord Of the Rings numerous times as well. Though admittedly after the first viewings only for the elf. She listened in, they were talking about the ears, and what trouble they were. “The ears were what first drew me into Legolas.”
Orlando looked over armoarmony. “They reminded me of rat ears, and since I have a love for rodents, rats mostly, I found them absolutely adorable.”
He laughed “, ye, yea I guess they resembled rat ears a bit.”
“Yea, I loved your rattus norvehhhwhatever shirt.”
“Rattus norvehhhwhatever?”
“Yea, it was a green hoodie, you wore it in a photo shoot. So maybe it wasn’t yours?”
“Oh, yea that. Yea, great shirt, it was a band shirt though.”
Harmony once again stared into Orlando’s beautiful deep brown eyes, and feeling her hearts pace quicken, sprang forward taking Orlando’s head in her hands and and kissed him. She ran her fingers through his hair, and played with his ears. This kiss seemed to last forever, and Orlando neither pulled back or questioned this. Only shared in the moment. When she felt as though she could no longer breath she pulled back to look once again into those eyes, just then her friend shook her and called her name. Harmony was jolted back to the real world to Orlando and Rose laughing at her. She just smiled, for Orlando’s eyes and laugh were so joyous and honest she couldn’t help herself.
When thing’s began to feel awkward Orlando decided it was time to go. He took each of the girls hands in his “well ladies, it’s been a pleasure, but I really must be off.” He released their hands and walked out the door towards his waiting limo. His driver, and older fellow by maybe 5 years was leaning against the car having a chat with a young girl. The girls attention turned to Orlando, and he smiled and waved. “Hey Joel, if you can tear yourself away from that beautiful young lady, I’m ready to go now. Sorry I took so long.” He started to get into the limo when he heard his name being called, he turned relieved to find it was only the two girls from the store. “Hey, we almost forgot, we were in there looking around and saw this on the wall; we thought it would be perfect for you so we got it.” Rose handed him the bag, and Orlando opened it up to find a yellow and white striped shirt, not unlike one he had worn to a Lord of the Rings premier. He smiled noting the fact the receipt in the bag had two phone numbers written on it, with their names. He put the bag down on the seat in the limo and turned to thank the girls. “Thank you ladies, it’s great, I love it.” He hugged them both. “Now I hate to cut this short but if you’ll excuse me I really have a premier to get ready for.” He smiled. “Maybe I’ll see you there.” Rose had a huge grin on her face. “Oh count on it.” Orlando smiled again and got into the limo, and his driver pulled away lng tng the girls reeling from what they had just experienced. Harmony thought to herself watching the man who haunted her nights driving away in a black limo “oh if only he weren’t so unreachable.”
