A/N: Prompted into existence by my Uke-chan. She asked for a lemon and, well… I’ve never written one before. So I decided to give it a go. *blinks innocently* Also~ whether or not it’s the pairing that Uke-chan wanted me to write is another thing altogether. >D This was also birthed into existence by watching the tango/“Roxanne” scene in Moulin Rouge one too many times—hence the title
Thank You: Luce, nutmeg, nyde, and Miri—for various reasons. Hopefully, you guys know for what. ^^;;

The moonlight was cool silver in the bedroom. Gackt watched Hyde’s profile as the other stood in front of the window, his silhouette an obsidian shadow in a room full of darkness. Gackt watched as Hyde’s hand came up to press softly against the windowpane, his breath fogging the glass in silver-tinted puffs, and he never said a word.
“Gackt?” The query was whispered, murmured in the opulent room. “If you could wish for one thing in the whole entire world, what would it be and why?”
“I wish…” the blue-eyed man began, then paused momentarily. His lips twisted up briefly in a bittersweet smile and he continued: “Actually, I don’t know what I would wish for. The thought never really crossed my mind, Hyde. Why?s='m='mso-spacerun:yes'> What would you wish for?”
Hyde’s fingers splayed out on the glass, moisture condensing against his warm skin. He knew that Gackt was lying—he always lied when asked a question similar to that one that Hyde had just posed. It wasn’t his fault, really. Over the years, Gackt had built up layers upon layers of masks that he showed to everyone that he met: artificial layers comprised of make-up, and layers that he had built himself, emotional walls that were so strong and so thick that noboduld uld ever be capable of bringing down. Not that Gackt gave anybody the chance to tear them down, anyway.
With that thought firmly in place, Hyde turned around and looked—just looked—at Gackt for a long moment. His eyes were dark, shadowed by the lighting in the room. “What would I wish for?” he mused aloud, still staring at Gackt with an inscrutable expression upon his face. “What would I wish for….”
There were several times—few enough times that Hyde could count them all on one hand—that Hyde had been able to see the real Gackt, the person that Gackt hid oh-so deeply within himself. Those times that Hyde had gotten Gackt so drunk that the man didn’t know how to keep his many masks in place.
The man that Hyde had been able to catch glimpses of was so vulnerable, so fragile. He had looked up with those blue eyes, gaze so penetrating that Hyde felt like he was falling to pieces beneath Gackt’s stare, and had asked: “Who am I? Really and truly, Hyde, who am I? Sometimes, I wonder about that. Wonder about who I am, about why so many people like me. I can’t answer the questions, Hyde. Can you?”
The only thing that Hyde had been able to do was hug Gackt and reply with meaningless words, words meant to comfort and console, but never to really answer the question that was posed. Hyde had hated himself for avoiding that query, but truthfully, what else was he to do? He didn’t understand Gackt and the strange questions that the man sometimes asked, he didn’t understand the obsessive-compulsive need to be perfect in every way possible. Hyde thought that Gackt was Gackt, and that was more than enough for him. He was satisfied with that.
And yet….
There was always an ‘and yet,’ wasn’t there? In this case, however, it was a valid point: the Gackt that Hyde knew wasn’t the real Gackt; it was just another mask, another persona that Gackt donned to be sure that Hyde would like him, would get along well with him. Would become friends with him.
If Hyde had been given one wish—any wish at all—he would want to see the real Gackt, the person that was hidden within. He >He ed ted to see the blue-eyed man voluntarily take down the walls that he erected about himself and, for the very first time, he wanted to look into Gackt’s eyes and see the person that he really was. No walls, no limitations, no hiding behind a mask of lies.
“If I was given one wish, Gackt, I would wish to see the real you, even if it was just for one time. That’s what I would wish for.”
For a long time, there was no answer, no reply. Many heartbeats later—had five minutes passed, ten, twenty, did an eternity pass them both on by while they each waited in turn for an answer?—a lone whisper shattered the silence that permeated the room. “Why?”
Hyde’s lips quirked up in a semblance of a smile. “Because I’ve never seen you, Gackt. I’ve seen the images that you put up, pretending to be the real you. But… they aren’t. They’re doll masks; you and I both know that. So even if it’s just for one time, I’d like to see the real you, Gackt.”
“…no.”
Bowing slightly in the blue-eyed man’s direction, Hyde turned around, returning his attention to the window and the cityscape that was laid out before him. He wouldn’t aagaiagain—ever. He knew better now than to pose that question again; he also knew that Gackt would never change his answer. Still, the abrupt answer saddened him. But there was nothing else that Hyde could do to otherwise change Gackt’s mind. “As you wish, Gacchan.”
~ ~
He ran his hands up Gackt’s stomach, the silky material of the blue-eyed man’s shirt catching on his knuckles. The muscles flexed under the palm of his hands, Gackt arching up into him and his gentle touch. The shirt was quickly shed, thrown upon the floor like so much discarded refuse.
“Why?” Hyde whispered.
“Why what?” Gackt whispered back, his voice breathy as Hyde toyed with his nipple. It hardened beneath Hyde’s expert touch, the caresses delicate. Gackt’s breath hitched in his throat as Hyde’s other hand traveled back down his chest and stomach, lightly tracing the shape of his belt buckle when he finally came upon it. The blue-eyed man’s breath hitched again when Hyde leaned forward, suckling on the same nipple he had just been playing with.
Hyde finally murmured a response once he was through, his answer not loud enough for Gackt to hear. Gackt frowned and was about to ask him to repeat what he had just spoken, but Hyde had unbuckled his belt, pulling it through his pants’ loops one gentle tug at a time. He shivered, goosebumps marching up and down his arms.
The bleached-blonde fell to his knees, tugging Gackt’s pants over his hips and down his thighs, finally gently tapping for Gackt to step out of his clothing when Hyde reached his ankles. Gackt did not wear underwear, but Hyde had already suspected this.
“Hyde… please stop.”
“Stop?” Hyde asked, breath warm against Gackt’s inner thigh. He ran his hands up Gackt’s legs, fingers tracing the smooth skin, fingernails leaving slight marks when he finally reached Gackt’s buttocks. “You could have had me stop long ago—but you didn’t ask me to stop then. It’s too late now.”
“Hyde. Stop now.” The demand was firmly stated this time, Gackt’s voice confident. Hyde’s tongue dipped into the hollow created by Gackt’s belly button and the taller man’s legs nearly buckled at the sensation, shivering all the while.
“Why? Why do you want me to stop, Gacchan? Why?”
This time, before Gackt could utter a word of protest, Hyde ran his tongue along his length, mouth warm against Gackt’s sensitive skin. Gackt moaned in response and he closed his eyes, head tilted back. He could feel Hyde smile slightly and he felt a moment of doubt—he wanted this, but… he also didn’t want this. Why?
Hyde lowered his lashes and watched as the emotions flitted across Gackt’s face: the indecision, the doubt, the desire to take what Hyde was offering him, the need to refuse, but the inability to do so. All the while, he held the knowledge that Gackt didn’t know, couldn’t know, what he really wanted—but he knew what Gackt wanted, had wanted and desired and craved all this time. The answer was simple: Gackt wanted him. Hyde watched Gackt as he fought with himself, then took the decision out of Gackt’s hands.
All coherent thoughts were quickly forgotten when Hyde opened his mouth to surround Gackt’s length, tongue and teeth lightly playing with the magnum’s sensitive head. He seemed to purr as he welcomed Gackt’s length further into his mouth, and Gackt fisted his hands in Hyde’s hair, breath coming in gasps and quickened pants. He arched up into Hyde’s mouth, but the smaller man’s grip on his hips tightened, holding him in place. His teeth, tongue, and lips continued to do things to Gackt that made him shudder continuously in response.
Layer by layer, Gackt began to feel his defenses peel away until there was nothing left. By this time, he had begun to not care, and cared even less when Hyde finally withdrew and led him to the bed.
The blonde’s clothing was quickly disposed of as the pair made their way towards the bed, touching each other, finding the spots on each other’s bodies that made them shudder in response to every single caress.
Hyde pushed him down upon the clean sheets, straddling his hips when Gackt was completely laid out before him. “It’s okay to give in, Gacchan,” he whispered softly, tracing the blue-eyed man’s lips with a gentle finger. “I promise I won’t hurt you.”
“I’m… scared,” was the softly spoken response.
“Why?” Hyde asked, kissing the corner of Gackt’s mouth as he did so. His hands wandered up and down Gackt’s body, caressing, touching, teasing, flirting. Gackt gasped and arched up into Hyde’s insistent hands, closing his eyes and finally just giving in to the feelings that Hyde produced.
‘Why?’ Hyde had asked him. Always questioning, always searching for an answer, a reply, to his questions. Why couldn’t Hyde just let this one time go by without a reply? He didn’t answer Hyde’s question—and never intended to, either. Hyde knew what the answer would be, had to know, and Gackt was proud enough to not speak it aloud.
The moment of silence stretched on until Hyde finally broke it, leaning forward to whisper in Gackt’s ear. where’s….?” He sucked on Gackt’s earlobe, smiling smugly to himself when Gackt moaned in response and pointed in the general direction of the bedside table.
Hyde leaned over Gackt’s body, his legs still straddling Gackt’s hips, and quickly rummaged through the drawers. He found the tube of lubrication in top top drawer. Hyde opened it and smeared it over his fingers and his own shaft, then pushed his body lower, leaving a trail of kisses and licks as he made his way downwards.
Gackt shuddered when he felt Hyde’s fingers probing his entrance, shifting his weight slightly to get more comfortable when the blonde man slipped a finger inside. “Shhh…. It’ll be all right. Trust me, Gacchan,” Hyde crooned, slipping in a second finger. He leaned forward and left a gentle bite over Gackt’s hipbone, the mark cherry red against the blue-eyed man’s golden skin.
“I…” Gackt began, then trailed off when Hyde finally brushed against his sensitive spot. He arched up into Hyde’s touch, moaning softly as Hyde continued to caress and kiss him. The other man remained gentle as he continued to worship Gackt’s body with hands and mouth.
A long time later, Hyde withdrew his fingers and brought Gackt’s legs over his shoulders. Gackt’s eyelashes fluttered up and he looked at Hyde with eyes that were hooded and sleepy with desire. Hyde leaned forward and brushed his lips against Gackt’s, the other obliged and opened his mouth to Hyde’s invasion, tongues brushing in a sinuous dance that spoke of ancient rituals still held on and practiced today.
Hyde arched up into Gackt and with every thrust of his hips, his tongue mirrored exactly. Gackt writhed in surprise, spine bowed as Hyde continued to thrust into him.
Kiss still unbroken, Hyde reached downwards and trailed his hands over his partner’s shoulders and arms, finally ending palm to palm with Gackt’s hands. Their fingers intertwined, hands becoming one as their lovemaking continued.
After what seemed like an eternity, Gackt arched up into Hyde one last time, shudders wracking his body when he reached his climax. Hyde soon followed, collapsing on Gackt’s chest when his arms finally gave out. The sheets were sticky with sweat and semen, but Gackt ignored this and pulled the sheet up to cover himself and Hyde.
“Haido…” Gackt began, his whisper hoarse in the darkness that had taken over his bedroom many hours before. Hyde murmured a response, wrapping an arm around Gackt’s waist and laying his head against the taller man’s chest. Gackt sighed and sifted his hands through Hyde’s blonde hair, smiling slightly when Hyde cuddled closer, already half asleep. “Never mind….”
Soon they were both asleep, still wrapped in each other’s embrace.

It was a dream.
Gackt slowly opened his eyes and sat up, his erection an uncomfortable state to wake up to. He rubbed his face, sighed, and then finally shifted position. The cityscape and stars glittered like diamonds out of his opened window curtains, the sea breeze making the linens undulate softly as it made iay iay inwards.
Why?
The dream-Hyde had asked the question so many times during their love making. Gackt grimaced and rubbed his face again, clearing away the sleep from his eyes. ‘Why?’ the Hyde had asked him. Why, why, why, why? Why else?
There was only one person in the whole entire world that was capable of tearing away Gackt’s masks of lies in a scenario akin to the walls of Jericho story in the Bible. The one person—the single being that Gackt was so terrified of—was Hyde. Hyde was the one who was capable of seeing the real person that Gackt hid so flawlessly. Hyde was the one who was slowly tearing down the walls that Gackt had put up so long ago; the scary thing about that was that Hyde was tearing them down, bit by bit, just by being himself.
Hands slowly traced their way up his back, caressing his shoulders and then made their way down his arms, ending up palm to palm with Gackt’s hands. Their fingers twined, hands becoming one. Gackt shuddered and closed his eyes.
Gackt had forgotten that dreams are just figments—fragments—of reality. They always held a kernel of truth… or reflected reality itself.
“You can’t run forever, Gacchan. You can’t hide forever,” Hyde whispered in Gackt’s ear, laying a gentle kiss along the blue-eyed man’s collarbone. “Eventually, you’ll run out of masks to hide behind.”
Gackt swallowed, trying to speak around the lump that had suddenly appeared in his throat, constricting it, making it burn. When he finally spoke, his voice was hoarse. “I know that, Hyde.”
“…good.”
