ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: Thanks to Bam Margera himself for making so many gay jokes about Ryan that I started to wonder if he was hiding in plain sight, so to speak.
“BAM!” Ryan called out as he prowled the hallways of the Margera house, having used his emergency key to let himself in like he had done numerous times in the past. Idly, he wondered if he should give it back. It had been almost a month since he’d seen his best friend and he was sure he knew the reason. Bam had never actually said anything outright but things had been weird between them ever since…ever since Bam helped him decide that he was gay. At least, it seemed that way to him but he was maybe just a little bit paranoid about that still. “BAM!” He called out again. Thoughts of his friend and that day made his chest ache, had been doing for a while now but he was getting good at ignoring the ache, telling himself it didn‘t mean anything.
He heard shuffling and clinking coming from the kitchen. Someone was home, so he headed in that direction. Poking his head around the door he found Phil, not surprisingly, making himself a round of sandwiches.
“Hey Phil.” Phil looked up from the counter and grinned broadly.
“Ryan, Christ, haven’t seen you in a while.“ Ryan stepped fully into the room. “You and Bam have some kinda fight?”
“Nah, I just been busy is all.” He paused for a moment before continuing. Has he, uhm, said anything about me at all?”
The larger man shrugged his shoulders,
“Like what?”
“Well, like I uhm, I, well, you know, like…” Not really sure quite what to say next, he stuttered and stammered until Phil took pity on him and ended his embarrassed mumblings with a…
“He told us you’re gay now if that’s what you mean.” Followed by a rather large bite of steak sandwich.
“Yeah.” Ryan blushed, dragging the beanie hat off of his head and fluffing up his flattened curls with one hand while nervously twirling the hat around on the index finger of his other. “That’s what I meant. Does that bother you?”
“I thought you knew me better than that Ryan. You and the guys are family, to me and Ape both, and you…You’re like our slightly better behaved son.” Ryan couldn’t suppress a grin at that. “If you’re happy, I’m happy. And Ape’s thrilled.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
“So, is Bam about? There’s someone I want him to meet.”
“Sure. He’s out back somewhere I think.” Phil leaned back in his chair, pushed down the door handle and jabbed open the door with the very tip of his middle finger, bellowing loudly. “BAM! YOU GOT A VISITOR!” He got up then, grabbing his sandwhich. “I’m gonna go watch some TV.” He told Ryan, brushing past the younger man and stepping out into the hallway. He nodded politely and smiled at the figure who was waiting silently and nervously in the hall. He hadn’t noticed him until that point but he wasn’t bothered, he was used to having a home full of strangers, Bam was always bringing bunches of folk back. He must be Ryan’s someone, Phil thought.
Once Phil was gone, *Someone* stepped into the kitchen.
“He seems like a nice guy.” He said.
“Phil? Yeah, he is. He’s the best.” At that moment, Ryan spotted Bam coming across the lawn. “Here he comes. Wait out there for a second, let me talk to him first okay.” Ryan leant up and placed a quick kiss on *Someone’s* cheek, then shooed him back out into the hall.
Ryan felt suddenly sick. A myriad of thoughts and emotions flooded his mind and body, not the least of which was fear. He was afraid that Bam wouldn’t be happy to see him, he was afraid that Bam WOULD be happy to see him, he was afraid that HE’D be happy to see Bam, happier than he ought to be. A memory of that day, of Bam’s weight across his back, of Bam behind and inside him made Ryan flush all over. Shit.
As Bam stepped into the kitchen Ryan fought to control his emotions, and he almost succeeded until Bam threw his arms around him and hugged him tight.
“Jesus Dunn it’s good to see you.” His arms remained wrapped around Ryan’s shoulders for way longer than Ryan was really comfortable with. His body was beginning to react to the sensation of having Bam plastered against him and he cursed silently. He was glad that Bam wasn’t afraid of him, he really was, but he could no longer keep denying the fact that he still wanted his friend, still thought about what it had been like to be with him. Finally, Bam pulled back. “I thought you’d dropped off the face of the planet or something.” He said grinning like a loon. “I missed you.”
“Sorry. I’ve been busy, ya know.” He’d missed Bam too, like crazy.
“Doing what? You’re the laziest son of a bitch I know Dunn.” Ryan stuck out his tongue, Bam did the same. It was nice that even after a month apart they could so easily fall back into their old habits.
“Just, getting to know the new me a little better and I thought I probably ought to go home and give my folks the news in person so…” He didn’t elaborate and Bam didn’t ask. He could tell by the look on Ryan’s face and the way he mouth contorted as he nibbled the inside of his lip, that it hadn’t gone real well. “I thought I’d give dating a try too.” For a brief second Ryan thought he saw something flicker across Bam’s face, some kind of weird emotion, but it was gone in the same instant and he thought he’d most likely imagined it.
“Dating?”
“Yeah. I heard about this club and decided to be brave and check it out.” That look was back, and it was gone just as quickly. Ryan dismissed it as a squint, the sunlight coming through the kitchen window was pretty bright. “Do you remember how you told me that when I got a boyfriend I should bring him round?” He didn’t wait for an answer. “Well, I have someone I want you to meet.”
He darted over to the hallway door and gestured with his hand, for someone Bam couldn’t yet see, to come closer. He grabbed the unknown person by the hand and dragged him into the kitchen.
“Bam.” He said, pushing the other young man forward. “This is Mark. My boyfriend.”
