I was just walking that day
Aimlessly
(Oh, oh no)
You picked a perfect day
To bump into me
(Perfect day, mmm)
Orlando had just gn oun out of a meeting with his agent, and now he had the rest of the day off. As it was a clear day, the sun shining from a blue sky, he decided to take a walk.
He rarely did that these days, it seemed he couldn’t really go anywhere anymore without the paparazzi following him around. And if it wasn’t the paparazzi it was fans stopping him every two seconds to get an autograph and a picture. But today he decided to chance it. He had just gotten some great news from his agent. A part he had been up for, a part he really wanted, well he had just found out that he got it.
He walked around pretty aimlessly, he didn’t really have a plan for where he was going, all he knew was that he enjoyed the sun warming his skin as he walked through the park.
He smiled as he watched some kids chase their dad around with a water pistol. The father was laughing so hard he had trouble running, and when he finally gave up he hid behind a woman sitting on a blanket reading a book. Orlando assumed it was the children’s mother and laughed as she got the worst of the water sprouting from the pistol. Luckily she didn’t seem to mind as she giggled and screamed when the children decided to climb over her to get to the man.
He was so busy watching the family playing that he didn’t see the girl coming around the corner in a jog. Before either of them could react, they bumped into each other, literally.
Because Orlando was the bigger of the two, he managed to stay on his feet, but the girl wasn’t as lucky. She was thrown backwards, landing on her butt.
“Oh my God! I’m so sorry!” Orlando exclaimed. He reached a hand out to help her up.
The girl took it, laughing,
“Don’t worry about it. I should have been watching where I was going.”
“But are you alright?” He asked looking her over.
“I’m fine!” She smiled, “Not a scratch.”
“Right, ok then…By the way, I’m Orlando.” He said introducing himself.
“I know,” she said, “I’m Neva.” She said, shaking his hand.
“It’s nice to meet you Neva.” Orlando said smiling.
“It’s nice to meet you too,” she said. Glancing at her watch she saw what time it was, “I hate to cut this short, but I should really get going.”
“Alright, I’ll let you get back to your jog!” Orlando said, stepping aside to let her pass.
“Thanks! Maybe I’ll see you around some time!” She said as she started jogging down the path, “Bye Orlando!”
He chuckled a little as he watched the girl, Neva, run away. She was certainly an interesting character.
Probably should've watched the stars in the sky
The night before
(Heey, hey)
But for some reason
We still met at your store
4 days later and Orlando found himself wandering again. He was actually enjoying it quite a lot, as it had been a long time since he could just walk around and not have to worry about some meeting he had to get to.
As he walked down the not quite busy street, he glanced at the windows of all the stores. They were all closed now, as it was rather late. All except for one. It was located a little bit further down the street, and it seemed to light up amongst the darkened storefronts.
Orlando couldn’t help but be curious. What kind of store would be open this late? He walked a little bit faster, reaching the front of the store in no time at all.
He looked up at the sign outside reading it. The Cauldron it said. Then he looked at the window display seeing that this clearly wasn’t a regular store. Finally his eyes caught a small sign standing on a dark purple velvet backdrop.
“Everything you need.” He read out loud. That was certainly interesting. How could they have everything one needs? Now he really wanted to find out what this store was all about, so he headed for the door.
As he opened the door and walked in, a small bell jingled above his head. As soon as he stepped de, de, the sweet smell of incense wafted over him. Not too much, but just enough.
“I’ll be with you in a minute!” a female voice called from the back.
Orlando just nodded, although he was well aware of the fact that the person couldn’t see him. He then started looking around the store.
One wall was made up of shelves filled with all different kinds of herbs, incense and spices. He walked over to take a look, but his eyes were caught by something glinting in the corner of his eye.
He walked over to see a crystal ball, laid out on the same purple velvet he had seen in the window. He couldn’t help but chuckle. Did people actually still believe in this stuff? He wondered. Above the small table holding the crystal ball, he found more shelves. These, however, were filled with crystals and stones of all different shapes, sizes and colours. Beautiful was the first thought that came to mind.
Turning to his right he found a bunch of bookshelves on the other side of the store. He walked over and started skimming the titles. It seemed they all had something to do with witchcraft, fortune telling, alternative medicine or something of that nature. Although some were about more supernatural things, like ghosts, spirits, vampires, even angels.
“Can I help you sir?” a voice asked softly behind him.
Orlando jumped, a hand going to his heart as he turned around to look at the person.
“No I…” He didn’t finish his sentence as he came to realize that the woman standing before him was the same woman he had bumped into, literally, the other day. “Neva! Hi!”
“Hello Orlando” she smiled as she said this, “What brings you to my little store?”
“This is your store?” He asked, quite surprised. For one, she was rather young toowniowning a store, for another, she hadn’t seemed like the type to own a store like this when he last met her.
“Yes, this is my store.” She laughed at the look of surprise on Orlando’s face. “Would you like a cup of tea?”
“Er…sure! Why not?” He answered returning her smile.
“Great! Follow me!” she said walking behind the counter.
Once they were out back, Orlando found himself sitting in a cozy little kitchen while Neva poured him a cup of tea.
“So…what brings you to my store?” She asked again, putting the cup in front of him.
“I don’t know really” he began, “It was the only store open on this street, I guess I was drawn to it.”
“Hm…that’s interesting” was the only reply he got. He didn’t know how to respond to that, so he decided to ask a question of his own.
“So why are you open this late?”
“Well, we usually cater to a, shall we say different crowd, than regular stores. Most of my customers are…nocturnal I guess” she chuckled a little.
“What? You mean like witches and the like?” Orlando asked raising an eyebrow.
“Yes, actually, but not the kind of witches you are thinking about.”
“And what kind is that?” he asked.
“When I say witch, you probably think of the kind that turn people into toads and stuff. Am I right?”
Orlando nodded. That was what he associated with a witch.
“Right, well these witches are the kind you would probably call healers. They have no supernatural powers, other than a strong belief in what they do, and they have learned to use the energy of the four elements to help people.”
(You, baby)
Your eyes have a story that they wish to tell
And I have my whole life
And I listen well
(Hey)
Look, I'll be your confidant
Tell me anything
But please start it off with how you tuck your wings
(Ohhh ooo ohh)
As he listened to Neva talk about her store and the people who came here, he looked into her eyes. It was as if he was spellbound. Which would actually make sense in a strange way. He got the feeling there was a lot more to this girl than just what he’s seen. He almost felt like there wastorytory there, and he really wanted to hear it.
The sound of her voice when she talked was hypnotizing. He was sure he could listen to her talk for hours on end about nothing at all. Who was this girl?
There's nothing else that I have seen
There's no getting around it
Or in between
You're out of this world
Except you're not green
Look
You don't know what you mean
To me
To me
All my friends meet you and say
You're the one
(You're the one, you're the one... hey ooo)
And all my meaningless friendships Should be done
(I should just leave them alone, baby, eh heh)
You had a friend
But he did you wrong
But I'm a Godsent Sign
That reads
Please move on
With me
(With me)
Six months down the road and Orlando had formed a deep friendship with Neva, a friendship which soon developed into something more.
However, it hadn’t all been roses and chocolate. That story that Orlando had seen hiding in her eyes the first night they really talked, had soon been told. Neva had been hurt before, by a man she had believed she was going to marry. He had been abusive and manipulative. Something that had left deep scars which were only just starting to heal.
But Orlando had made it his mission to help Neva heal those scars, and he had silently begged her to let him.
It seemed she had heard his plea, because the more time they spent together, the more she opened o hio him. She started letting him in, letting him get to know the real Neva. A girl with such a positive outlook on life, an outlook that had been shattered buy That Bastard. That’s how Orlando referred to him now, although mostly to himself. He had sworn that should he ever meet this guy, he would personally make sure he never hurt Neva again.
Neva had been introduced to Orlando’s friends, and she had been accepted immediately. In fact, it almost seemed she had cast her spell over a few of his friends as well.
Every time Orlando talked to one of them, they would let it drop, one way or another, that Neva was the girl for him. Orlando was starting to believe that more and more himself.
You taught me to use my heart
And forget my eyes
(Use my heart... forget my eyes.. mmm)
And that's the way
To His kingdom of eternal life
(ooh eh heh hehhh)
Since you're an angel, baby
Your job's never done
Too bad the world will see you
When they dial 9-1-1
(That's why..)
There's nothin' else that I have seen
There's no getting around it
Or in between
You're out of this world
Except you're not green
Look
You don't know what you mean
To me
(To me, to me, to me)
To me
It had been one year since Orlando met Neva and the more time they spent together, the more Orlando was convinced that she was an angel, his angel, the girl he was supposed to marry.
He was starting to believe that it wasn’t coincidence that he walked into her store that night, in fact it wasn’t coincidence that they ran into each other that afternoon in the park. And that was why he was going to do what his heart told him to do. Neva had taught him to listen to his heart when it came to choosing roles among other things. She had said that if he didn’t follow his heart, then he would never be happy. He might be contend, but never truly happy.
He knew he would never be truly happy until he was bound to Neva forever. He was going to propose to her.
There's nothin' else that I have seen
There's no getting around it
Or in between
You're out of this world
Except you're not green
Look
You don't know what you mean
To me
(To me, to me, to me)
To me
I was just walking that day
Aimlessly
