All this time

He swiftly made his way inside the cabin.
On the outside, the cabin was see-through. Once inside… all you could see was yourself and the only object left in the room, a heavy-looking iron chair.
A dark haired man, wearing a troubled guise and white scrubs stood on the other side of the glass dividing the before mentioned cabin from the main lab room. He'd just pressed the button that would isolate the other man from the outside world.
"How do you feel?" he asked as he turned the oxygen monitor on in order to control its percentage inside the cell.
"I'm feeling bloody great. What am I supposed to do now?"
The scientist could see the wandering eyes, veiled with a tint of reddish excitement and probably concern as well.
"I'll let you get accustomed to your surroundings… seat down, make yourself comfortable." The scientist's voice was strong and brisk, nothing to do with his bodily appearance.
The able and famous researcher, PhD. Gregory H. Jensen, was tall and lean.
The discoloured, ill-looking appearance one used to link with the average rat-lab that he was could not be farther away from the truth. He was a handsome young man. Brilliant, most intellectuals in the field said. He soon earned his place amongst the greatest scientists of the millennia. With only 23 years old, he'd already received most of the prizes successful middle-aged scientists received after many decades of dedication to Science and Knowledge. Now, with almost 27, he'd finally achieved what he'd been studying for all his life... He'd invented a way, through power and knowledge, to control time.
The wrinkles in his forehead denounced his insecurities about this pioneering technology though. He had made a groundbreaking discovery; one couldn't deny it… not even HE could… However, he hadn't had the time or permission to test it on humans, yet…! The procedure one had to go through in order to travel in time was very complex… and the effects it could cause in a person were completely unknown to the inventor. He'd managed to make a mouse come back… a monkey even… but those hadn't had the time to actually be on another moment in time and space, he'd send them back right away… If not for his intensive studies and machinery one would think they'd never left.
The renowned discoverer was still unsure of the weight time travel could have on the present times. He wasn't even sure of the original concept himself… Would one be able to interfere in any way? Change anything? Or was it just a coming back… where one would be able to revive? Would one even remember they were time travelling? Would one be able to exist in the past with the past body, the present one or simply just exist without a physical chamber for the mind? There were so many possibilities! All these thoughts always left him both excited and petrified.
Only a selection of people all over the world knew about these experiments. Morally, what he'd been researching the last couple of years of his life wasn't acceptable. No one knew what this technology could bring… It could be used for the good of humankind, yes… but it could also lead to terrible conclusions if in the wrong hands. That, if this technology was proven capable; in the eyes of those interested… the ones who had been generously paying for it until this day.
The doctor's gaze clouded, his cheeks whitened. He needn't worry, though… the man on the other side of the large window couldn't see him. And the intrepid guy (perhaps because he had nothing to lose) had been excruciatingly explained every detail, every possibility… he was aware that the breaths he was taking right then could very well be his last.

The man inside the glass room looked calm, only the constant hand-through-hair motion revealed his inner edginess to the pensive researcher.
"Mr. Jones… We have talked about this before. If you find you don't want to carry this out… you don't have to. All you need to say is one word and we will end this right now."
The blond man looked up from his knees over to where he through he heard the sound coming from.
Everything looked metallic around him… Starting from the chair he was sat in, to the walls surrounding him. They had looked awfully like glass to him… but he wasn't so sure anymore. If this guy could take him back in time like he said he could… he wouldn't be amazed to know the glass was in fact some sort of scientifically modified metal.
"I've signed the papers, what else do you want me to do? I said I'd do it." He tensely mouthed.
The researcher remained silent for a bit.
"Very well then Mr. Jones. Sit back. Try to keep your breathing regular… It is not a pre-requisite but it will help you relax. Your wrists should be positioned over the arms of the chair… good." Daniel did as told. "Your feet on the resting step… yes."
A sound, and moving cuffs unhurriedly enclosed around the naked wrists and ankles.
Daniel did not understand why all this chain-thing was necessary... it had to do with his safety, he'd been told. But he remained clueless as before.
"Relax… your heartbeat is too fast. I'm going to release a small dose of gas that will help you ease. Do I have your permission?"
"You're not gonna rape me while I'm dead to the world are you?"
The scholar smiled secretly, shaking his head.
"Mr. Jones… all the gas will do is send a message to your brain in order for it to decrease the production of adrenalin… You will be conscious during all procedure. We have discussed this bef…"
"Yes, I know doc… just trying to loosen up." Daniel turned his head to where he remembered the command table was and smiled easily.
"Ah, I'll release the gas, then."
Soon Daniel felt his body go into relaxation mode. All of a sudden, everything was oooookay... He didn't even need to go back in time anymore… but he didn't mind doing it though. He didn't mind if he died during it either! He even didn't mind the cuffs or the walls…! Everything was just….
"Peachy… Doc.…? Where did you get this? This shit is awesome…!" he smiled dazedly.
The doctor looked up, his back turned to the object of his experiment. He received a thumbs-up from the observation deck; watching, hearing, and documenting every single step of the experience from a split-level, with exclusive view to the laboratory.
"Okay, Mr. Jones… Feeling ready?"
"Yeah yeah… just get on with it already!" The entrapped drugged man muttered.
"I will start the program… a machine will come lower around you… don't be frightened."
"Just bring it on…" Daniel nodded feeling he could take practically anything.
Greg, the scientist, pushed the common red button and pulled the only lever on the control panel down.
Instantly, a cage with little gadgets and probes lowered over and around the blond man inside the booth, over the chair.
"Freaky…" he heard the slightly altered voice of the human guinea pig huffing through the speakers on the sides of the machinery in front of him.
"Breathe into de mask that will enclose around your head…" the mask moved from a side of Daniel's body and slowly adjusted to the blonde's head "How do you feel?"
"I'm fine… a bit light-headed, but I feel perfectly fine."
"Okay, now remember the gel we talked about?"
"Yeah, go ahead… I'm already naked… not like it's gonna stain any clothes…"
"We're almost done, Daniel…"
"Woah! It's freezing, man…! Couldn't you have heated it a bit?" the reddish liquid climbed Daniel's body, coming from somewhere inside the cuffs in his wrists and ankles.
"Can you breathe okay? How's your nose?"
"It's fine, it's my legs and arms I'm worried about! This shit is freezing them!"
"Your limbs are fine… You just have to keep breathing."
"Say… this shit's not gonna reach my head, is it? 'Cause it's coming inside my shorts… Oi! Not Danny-Jr.!" Daniel squirmed under his constraints.
"Stay still. You're wearing the mask to protect your face."
Daniel looked troubled.
"It's… it's climbing my back…!" He groaned. "You didn't say anything about this, man!"
"It'll get warm soon enough, don't worry. Breathe, Daniel."
The red liquid was turning a darker shade, close to blood. It felt thicker now as well… and as it reached all it could go, on the borders of Daniel's neck, where it touched the mask, it contoured it and covered all of the blonde's exposed head.
"It's… it's warm… and dry… it's liquid… but it feels dry…!"
"Relax… everything's going as expected."
The doctor watched as the darkening goo mingled with Daniel's skin and small threads started to form outside, seemingly attracted to the machinery and hitting home in the right slots. They were in greater number on the backbone and on the head.
Greg looked behind him one more time, and once again received an affirmative gesture, a nod.
"Okay, Daniel… here we go." He turned towards the unrecognisable form.
Heat… so much heat all over… Daniel felt fire burning… tearing at his insides… as if electricity had taken over his every pore, organ, cell… his body convulsed beneath him, just once… and then all sound faded away to nothing... all image ceased. He ceased to be.
