Kellie stood on the crowded sidewalk. She was desperately trying to keep her balance on the curb. Somehow she had gotten lucky enough to be in the very front of the crowd. They were all there for one reason. Orlando Bloom would be arriving any minute for a screening of some new movie. Kellie had no idea what the movie was, nor did she care. This little excursion hadn’t even been her intention when she left home that day. She had only been in LA a month and everyday she forced herself to explore someplace new. Today had been a shopping district with a fancy movie theater. She had come up on a fairly large crowd of women/girls. She had been trying to bypass them when she heard someone mention something about Orlando Bloom. She had quickly found out that he was going to be there for the screening.
“I should have kept going.” She muttered.
Once again she lost her balance and stepped off the curb. Sure she was a fan. Orlando was only one of the hottest actors around. But Kellie wasn’t the crazy groupie type. She was suddenly yanked out of her reverie by screams. The whole crowd began to move like a huge wave. Kellie struggled to keep her footing and in the process grabbed someone’s arm. The girl she grabbed a hold of immediately turned and glared at her.
“Let go of me!” She yelled.
The girl then shoved Kellie hard. Before she could react she fell of the curb and painfully twisted her ankle in the process. Kellie screamed and tried desperately to catch herself as the pavement rushed up to meet her. All she could do was brace herself and hope she didn’t get run over. Her shoulder hit the pavement hard and she cried out again. She then realized that the crowd had grown deathly quiet and was staring at her! It was then that she heard foot steps and felt hands on her shoulders.
“Are you OK?” A voice from behind her said.
“Uh...I think I twisted my ankle.” She said.
“Let me see.” They said.
It was then that the owner of the voice came into view. Orlando Bloom was kneeling in front of her and gently touching her ankle. Kellie winced as a pain shot up her leg. Her ankle was already turning a very colorful shade of purple. Orlando gently removed her sneaker and sock to reveal her whole foot was turning violet and swelling. Kellie groaned and wished the pavement would swallow her.
“I don’t think you can walk on this.” Orlando said.
Kellie couldn’t even speak. She felt a blush creeping up her face and all she could do was nod. Orlando smiled and then turned to speak to one of his body guards. The man walked off quickly.
“He’ll bring my car around and we’ll get you to the hospital.” He said.
“Ok..” Kellie gulped.
“Did you hurt anything else?” Orlando asked.
“I landed on my shoulder.” Kellie said.
Orlando quickly reached up and felt her shoulder through her t-shirt.
“Can you move your arm?” He asked.
Kellie nodded and moved her arm in proof.
“Good!” He said with another smile.
Finally a car pulled up and without hesitation Orlando picked her up and placed her in the back seat before climbing in next to her. Kellie looked out the window to see the girl that pushed her staring at her. It was actually a cold glare, one that made her shiver.
It Didn’t take very long to get to the Hospital. Kellie expected them to drop her off. She was very surprised when Orlando hopped out and proceeded to carry her into the emergency room.
“Please, you don’t have to do this.” She said.
“Yes I do, you can’t walk.” Orlando stated simply.
“Please just put me in a chair and I’ll be fine.” She was begging.
“No, I’m going to make sure you are seen immediately.” He said.
Someone must have called ahead because a nurse came around the front desk and led them right to an examining room. There Orlando gently placed her on the bed. A doctor came in shortly after and Orlando left the room. Kellie almost sighed out loud. She wanted to die of embarrassment. The doctor began to poke and prod her ankle. Kellie yelped when he tried to rotate her foot.
“I don’t think it’s broken, but I’d like to get and x-ray to be sure.” The doctor said.
“OK.” Kellie nodded.
He then looked at her shoulder.
“Your shoulder is bruised and has a nasty scrape.” He said.
“I’ll send in a nurse to clean it and take you to x-ray.”
Kellie nodded and laid back as he left. She’d been holding her breath and finally let it out. A nurse came in a little while later and had her remove her shirt. So she could clean the scrape.
“You sure have some luck.” She said.
“What do you mean?” Kellie asked
“Well managing to fall and twist your ankle in front of Orlando Bloom of all people!” She said.
“Ugh, I know!” Kellie said. “I really want to die right now!”
“You know he’s out there waiting for you?” She said.
“What?” Kellie looked at her. “No, tell him I’m ok and he can go!”
The nurse just smiled at her and finished her shoulder. Kellie put her shirt back on and She then instructed Kellie to slide off the bed and sit in the wheel chair . As the nursed wheeled her to x-ray Kellie glanced into the waiting room to see Orlando sitting there. He was talking to one of his body guards and hadn’t noticed her.
“Why is he still here?” She wondered.
After what seemed like hours Kellie was finally released with her ankle wrapped tightly and a set of crutches. She hopped out to the front desk to ask the nurse to call her a cab. Orlando intercepted her.
“How’s your ankle?” He asked.
“It’s sprained.” Kellie blushed. “I need to stay off it for a week or so.”
“I’ll give you a ride home.” He said.
“No, really I had the nurse call my...um...roommate!” She lied.
“She’ll be here soon, so you don’t have to wait, but thanks for all your help.”
“You’re sure?”
“Very!”
Orlando glanced at the nurse and then back at Kellie. It looked like he was trying to decide whether to believe her or not.
“Well, I guess I’ll go.”
“Thanks for everything.”
“No problem, anytime.”
Orlando signaled his body guard and they left. Kellie let out the breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. Her ankle hurt and all she wanted was to go home. She sat in the wheel chair for a moment.
“Would you like me to call a cab?”
“Please.”
Kellie slumped into the wheel chair and sighed. What a day, heck what a month! She had only been in LA for a month. She had moved from the east coast and was starting a new life. So far she hadn’t been able to find a job or meet any new friends. Not that money was a problem. No, she had plenty of money enough to live on until she died, but a job would occupy her time. Now this sprained ankle would defiantly put a damper on things. Kellie wheeled herself out the ER doors to wait for the cab. She must have sat for almost an hour before it pulled up.
“Where to?” The driver asked. “1222 Oceanveiw apartments.” Kellie replied. She got up to open the door. “It’ll be about twenty dollars.” Kellie stopped. The driver looked at her. “Is that a problem?” Suddenly Kellie remembered she didn’t have her purse. “I’m sorry, I lost my purse. I don’t have any money.” Kellie backed away from the cab as it left the curb. The driver yelled something rude, but Kellie ignored him. “Now what am I going to do?” She hopped back to the wheel chair and sat down. She leaned her head on her crutches and sighed loudly.
“What are you still doing here? Wasn’t that the cab that just pulled away?” It was the nurse from the desk. “Yes, but I must have left my purse in Orlando Bloom’s car! I don’t have any money.” Kellie stared at the cab now stuck behind an ambulance. “Hold on.” The nurse ran up to the cab and leaned in the window. The nurse then waved to Kellie. She wheeled herself over curious as to what was going on. “He’ll take you home.” The nurse opened the door and helped Kellie in. “Thanks, I’ll pay you back.” Kellie settled into the seat and placed her crutches across her lap. “I know you will, don’t worry about coming back tomorrow. Let your ankle heal. I’m here every night, same time.” Then the nurse thumped the roof of the cab.
The ride home wasn’t long. Kellie was very happy to see the front doors of her building. It was a very upscale building. It was locate din one of the nicest parts of LA. Kellie crawled from the back seat and hobbled to the front doors. It was after midnight and that meant no doorman. Kellie had to ring the bell to get the front desk clerk to let her in.
“Ms. Parks! What happened?” Fergi exclaimed. He helped her into the door. “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you. It’s been a long night.” Kellie said as she headed for the elevator. “Where’s your purse? You weren’t mugged were you?” Fergi didn’t miss a thing. “No, I had an accident. The guy that took me to the hospital, I left my purse in his car.” Fergi raised an eyebrow. “So if someone comes with my purse....” Kellie paused. “I’ll send him right up!” Fergi cut in. Kellie smiled and pushed the button on the elevator. Kellie went straight to her bedroom and went to sleep. The day had been to much. She needed to process what had happened and have sweet dreams about a certain Englishman.
