The sound of the shutter was almost lost in the yells and screams of the children playing on the grass, yet the young man and his dog seemed oblivious to what was going on around them.
“Perfect” she purred as she set her camera down beside her and opened the bag at her feet. Her hands found her sketchbook and pencils and she set it on her lap, getting comfortable on the bench. Her hands moved effortlessly over the page as she looked at the two figures on the grass.
Soon the page was full of grey and black strokes as she captured this rare sight on paper.
After a while the puppy barked and pulled at his owner’s coat. With a chuckle and smile he rose to his feet and together they left the park.
Closing her book, she got up and carefully placed her items back in their bag. She swung her camera bag over her shoulder and took off in the opposite direction.

“Dad, I’m back.”
Viggo looked up when he heard the door open and Jacqueline enter the gallery. “I’m back here honey” he yelled before he turned his attention to the collection of photographs in front of him. He had another exhibition coming in two weeks time and was looking for some inspiration.
Lasgalen gallery was his pride and joy and the only thing he had left over from his happier life. Well, that and Jacqueline.
Brenda, his ex-wife had walked out on him and little Jackie when she was two years old and he was left to raise her by himself.
But then four years later, Sean had entered his life and he couldn’t be happier.
The attorney had a bubbly personality and always cheered Viggo up no matter how bad a day both of them had had.
“Hey dad” Jacqueline said as she leant over and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “This the photos for the exhibit.”
“I don’t know” Viggo said “I feel as if there’s something missing and I don’t know what it is.”
“Don’t worry” she said “You’ll come up with something great as usual, I know it. I’ll be in the dark room if you need me. Have some great pictures I want to develop.”
“Okay” Viggo said as he smiled at her.
At 24 Jacqueline was the splitting image of her mother and Viggo’s little girl. She was a free lance photographer but she did sketch now and again.
Sitting down in a chair, Viggo sighed and took her sketchbook from her bag, paging though it. He gasped when he came to the last sketch. It was exquisite although it was only in pencil with a touch of dark charcoal here and there.
The young man and his dog looked so peaceful that Viggo couldn’t help but be entranced by the simple sketch his daughter made.
“What you looking at dad?” Jackie asked as she sat down on the couch across from her father. She had some photos in her hand which she was going to put in her portfolio which was currently lying on the table. It had been a gift from her father and the leather bind had her name engraved in it.
“Let me see that please?” Viggo asked as he held out his hand and Jackie handed him the file. He paged through the file, stopping with a smile as he came to a group of photos. “Who’s your subject?” he asked, opening the park photos and placing the binder on the table with the sketch next to it.
“I have no idea” Jackie replied noticing how beautiful the photos really were. “I’ve seen him in the park these past few days and I just had to take a picture of him. He looks so calm but free and untamed at the same time. I don’t even know his name.”
“Well spoken like a true artist” Viggo said as he relaxed back in the chair “I think my little girl is ready for her first exhibition with her own work.”
“You really think they’re good enough?” Jackie asked as she sat forward in her seat and Viggo nodded his head.
“Yes” he said as he placed her sketch nearer to the photos. “I want you to combine your sketches and the photos; it’ll make for a good contrast. But you’ll need to get his permission to take some more photos since you’ll need some close-up as well as different inks. You have to ask him if he’s willing to allow you to photograph him.”
“Thank you dad” Jackie hugged Viggo. “I’ll see if he’s in the park this afternoon and ask him. He seems nice and gentle enough so I’m sure he’ll agree.
Viggo nodded and he and Jackie started to look at potential photos to use for the exhibit.
