His brown eyes scanned the crowded eating area of the mall he had chosen to visit that day, as he held onto his tray of food. No empty seats were available anywhere and he was starting to grow anxious. Many people had joined each other even without previously knowing them, just to share a table, and he saw as people went back to where they had bought their food and had it packed to eat it on the go. But he didn’t want to do that, he wanted to enjoy eating at this place, and if he needed to make a new friend, then so be it.
His breath caught when he saw the girl sitting by herself, distractedly eating her french fries, seemingly far more interested in the book she was reading than in eating. Making up his mind, and realizing his food was starting to turn cold, he headed her way. As he neared her, he noticed the perfection of her fair skin in stark contrast with her raven black, stick straight hair which fell in a dark cascade to the middle of her back. She was dressed in a kiwi colored polo shirt and dark rinsed jeans, he guessed it to be a work uniform.
“Excuse me.” - his deep voice said, softly earning her attention. A strong ache settled in his lower regions the moment her green cat-like eyes looked up at him from behind her rectangle-shaped glasses.
“Yes?” - she asked with a smile, her delicate yet sexy voice sending a shiver down his spine.
“Would you mind if I sat with you? There’s hardly any other seats and I would very much enjoy your company.” - he drawled out.
She took a moment to give the stranger a once-over. He was almost 6’2’’, and she guessed he was near 200 pounds. And she was pleasantly surprised when she realized that he was pure muscle, as his arms and chest bustled and struggled against the fabric of the white t-shirt, he was wearing, along with a pair of faded jeans. He was wearing a cap and a pair of sunglasses, that though unnecessary, was somewhat normal. “Sure… be my guest.” - she said finally motioning to the seat in front of her and moving her tray so his could fit.
“Thanks. I really didn’t feel like taking my food to go today.” - he said, his brown gaze fixed on her.
“Well, you didn’t have to.” - she smiled, then in the blink of an eye she turned deadly serious, a change that didn’t go unnoticed by her companion.
“Anything wrong?” - he asked concerned.
She didn’t reply right away, instead she kept staring intently at his face. He watched her eyes as they traveled all over his features, even though his eyes were hidden, and he knew he’d been discovered. Slowly a grin swept across her face, and her eyes shone once again.
“You’re one sneaky dude.” - she said, the grin still etched onto her pretty, delicate face.
“I don’t understand…” - he said truly confused. Then without a word, she raised the book from the table, allowing him to see the cover.
“Pretty nice story, does the movie relate completely to it, or are there changes?” - she asked.
He was stunned, mainly by the fact that even though she knew who he was, and she seemed to be a fan, she didn’t jump him or start screaming in the least, she simply looked pleasantly surprised. “Please don’t scream…” - he begged, for a moment deliberating on whether to get up and leave, or to stay and fight the mayhem that would most certainly ensue.
She giggled softly, seeing the worry on his handsome face. “I only scream when I’m angry… and right now I’m at the other corner of that.” - she grinned easily, setting him completely at ease.
“Thanks.” - he said, his voice back to its calm state.
“You better start eating, or else it’ll get cold.” - she winked, before going back to her book.
His gaze was trained on her, as his strong hands reached for his food and he began eating slowly. He noticed the small dimples that formed whenever she smiled with something she read, her impressive green eyes traveling slowly yet steadily over the perfect lines of the book. His mind then wandered to who she was, what she did, what her personality was like, what she liked, what she disliked, and after the innocent thoughts, came the more racy ones. Even though he was a huge movie star, success and fame came with its prices, the main one for him being that he could hardly trust anyone, for he feared everyone was after his money, but with her he felt an odd sense of comfort and safeness, that he hadn’t felt with anyone else in a long, long time.
He felt unnervingly at ease with her, and he felt he could tell her whatever came to mind. And so, his thoughts drifted to where they shouldn’t and his mind was suddenly filled with naughty images of himself with the woman currently sitting in front of him. He imagined how her lips would taste, and the sounds her pouty pink mouth would make as they made love all night long.
She grinned to herself, inconspicuously raising her eyes to look at the object of her fantasies sitting in front of her. She felt the unnerving need to pinch herself, certainly she was dreaming. Her cellphone rang, for a moment breaking the silent spell that had befallen the two. She reached into her black Chloe bag and pulled out her cellphone, flipping it open and putting it to her ear in one swift motion.
“What up?” - she asked into the pink Motorola Razr, smiling over at the man in front of her as he looked back at her and kept on eating. “Oh, no… don’t you worry about me… I’m having lunch and then I’ll be over there… we’ll talk later.” - she said, her happy expression quickly morphing into an annoyed one. “Ugh… whatever, bye.” - she sighed and hung up, the phone being tossed back into the depths of her bag.
“Something wrong?” - he asked.
She smiled candidly at the honest concern present in his voice and shook her head, locks of black hair moving in synch. “Nah… just my manager. He saw my car outside and wondered where I was. Usually when I get here early I just wait for my time to clock in at the store, but today I was in the mood to eat here, so here I am. And apparently luck’s on my side, because, look at who I’m having lunch with.” - she grinned.
He couldn’t help but grin back, and gave out a hearty chuckle, before they settled back into their easy silence. It was now her turn to stare at him. Her green eyes traveled over his features, much like they had done earlier, but now she stopped to take in everything, staring at him as if she was trying to memorize everything about him. She wished for a split second he would take off his sunglasses and his black cap, so she could enjoy the view of his face completely, but she knew it would result in a big trouble for him.
He looked up from his tray after finishing, and caught her staring at him. “Like what you see?” he drawled out, expecting her to blush and duck her face.
“Matter of fact I do.” - she nodded with a sly, sexy grin.
His head cocked to the side. She was pretty hot when she did that. “That’s great… cause I’m liking what I see too.” - he said giving her his lopsided grin, making a shiver travel down her back.
“Well, I’m glad you do.” - she giggled. Then the painful pang of reality hit her like a ton of bricks, no matter how much they were enjoying the sight of the other, nothing would come out of it, and yet again she wondered if she was asleep, because if she in fact was, this was one cruel, cruel dream.
“Are you also wondering if you’re asleep, or am I the only one?” - his gruff voice asked, jolting her out of her thoughts.
“No, actually, you’re not the only one.” - she finally said shaking her head. “If we were, this would be one cruel dream for me.” - she said sadly. “Well, it is anyway…” - she said looking down at her watch.
“Why?” - he asked instant worry gripping him.
“Because I have to go.” - she said regretfully as she tucked her book into her bag and removed her glasses, folding them into their carrying case, before looking back at him.
His breath caught once more. If he’d thought she was sexy with her glasses, she was even hotter without them. But… where was she going?
“My shift at the store starts in just ten minutes and I have to walk a bit to get there, plus freshen up before clocking in.” - she said softly as she stood, slinging her bag over her shoulder, before reaching for her tray. “It was very nice meeting you, and I do wish you enjoy your stay here.” - she said with a wide grin, truly meaning her words.
He was left speechless, his brain scrambling to communicate with his mouth, so words would come out and he’d be able to call out to her. But when he finally succeeded, she was long gone. His brain became jumbled again, but this time he searched for anything that would clue him in on what store it was that she worked.
‘Think idiot, think.’ he told himself. “Oh, yes.” - he grinned. He’d seen a ‘Happy Party’ name tag in her bag. He stood up, his 6’2’’ frame a harsh contrast against the sitting bodies in the eating area and proceeded to empty his tray on a nearby trashcan before heading over to where he’d seen the store.
All the way there he kept his gaze low and all his senses alert. It had become especially easy for him to hide among the masses of people, and he’d start to enjoy it lately, but now that wasn’t what occupied his thoughts. His mind was overridden by those green eyes that held him captive and even if he didn’t know who she was, he wouldn’t go back home without getting to know her.
With one last turn, he was right in front of the massive store, and with a determined breath he stepped through the door and into the cool air. The store was overflowing with Halloween decorations, ghouls, ghosts, demons, along with spiders and their webs hung from the store’s ceiling, amidst long flowing strips of orange, purple and black fabric.
‘Nice.’ he thought, his brown gaze looking around and taking all of the decoration in.
“Good afternoon, gentleman. Welcome to Happy Party.” - the security guard greeted him.
“Thanks.” - he mumbled, the true reason for him being there jolting him back into movement. ‘Where are you?’ he wondered silently, looking into each and every aisle. He halted his movements when he finally landed his eyes on her. She was sitting atop of a 12-foot ladder, handing merchandise to another co-worker, and he watched as the guy re-stocked here and there with what she was handing him. To his luck, her co-worker was apparently called to go somewhere and he took his opportunity to go over. She looked earnestly surprised to see him there and her face was her truest mirror.
“Hey there.” - she grinned.
“Hey.” - he grinned back up at her. “What are you doing up there?” - he asked worried.
“Working.” - she replied easily. “Why? Worried I might fall and break my neck or something?” - she asked.
“Well, yeah. I want to get to know you and I don’t think I’ll be able to if you do just that.” - he smiled, crossing his arms over his massive chest.
“Well, I’ll let you know that I am a pretty seasoned employee here at Happy Party and I have never fallen off a ladder. Okay… so maybe I have dropped a few boxes here and there to avoid a fall, but I have never technically fallen.” - she smiled again, and he found himself getting used to those smiles. “Did you miss me so soon?” - she asked standing on the last step of the ladder and climbing a few down, enough for her to have a strong hold over the ladder and wiggling it forward, making it look as if she was walking with it.
“What are you doing?!” - he demanded, his eyes wide as saucers.
“I’m working, dude. Chill.” - she giggled, climbing back up to reach some boxes.
“I’m starting to not like your job.” - he said deadly serious. Why was he feeling this way? He had only met her less than two hours ago and he was almost having a cardiac arrest when her health was seemingly put in danger.
She knew she was risky with her life, but she never imagined that a true stranger would be worried over her.
“Are you okay, dude? I didn’t mean to upset you.” - she said softly, sitting back at the top of the ladder.
“Don’t worry… I was just surprised you would do that.” - he smiled, coming forward to rest his arms on the ladder’s steps.
“I’m so used to doing it that I don’t realize it anymore.” - she shrugged innocently, before her co-worker reappeared. “There you go, these are totally empty.” - she said dropping a few bags of plates for him to re-stock. The guy nodded his blonde head and walked away to where the plates were set.
“So, what time do you get off?” - he asked.
“In just two hours, why?” - she asked with a coy bat of her eyelashes.
“I was just wondering if you would let me take you out to dinner tonight.” - he said hopefully, grinning when he saw her face light up.
“Are you serious?” - she asked moving to climb down the ladder.
“Of course I am.” - he said with a nod of his head.
“Then, it would be an honor.” - she said nodding her head.
“No, it will be mine.” - he said, reaching for her hand to drop a kiss on the back of it.
After she wrote him down the directions to her apartment for his driver to take him there, he left her to her own devices, a cocky strut to his step as he headed for the car he had rented to drive him everywhere. ‘I’m taking her to dinner.’ he said to himself as he settled his massive body in the back seat of the heavily tinted Mercedes Benz. The grin never left his face as he was driven to his hotel, and it wouldn’t leave him until he realized with a pang of pain that he still hadn’t asked her for her name. But he’d heard her co-worker call her Kat.
“Hmm… she does look like a cat…” - he mused as he buttoned his shirt. “One hell of a sexy cat.” - he chuckled.
*~*~*~*~*~*
The rest of her day was a total dream. No more problematic customers or unhappy ones, well, maybe there were some but she was far to ecstatic to notice or be bothered by any of them. She was sure she was in a dream. Everything was far too perfect to be real. Well, what were the chances of a seemingly normal girl meeting her favorite movie superstar while having lunch and having him follow her into her work place to ask her out to dinner? None. And yet, here she was, and all of it was happening to her. With a dreamy look on her face she clocked out, and after grabbing her things and saying goodbye to everyone, headed out for her car. As she neared the black, Volkswagen Beetle and unlocked it, she let out a sigh, she had to hurry. He was stopping by to pick her up in just under two hours and she still had to pick out what to wear, and get ready. She very well couldn’t go out with him without getting properly made up. Even though it wasn’t in her to get overly made up, she knew just how to enhance her features and look put together without it looking bad.
Upon arriving at her house, she went straight into her walk-in closet and searched through the new stuff she’d bought just days ago, they still even had the tags hanging. She rummaged through it all and finally settled on a pair of dark rinsed, super skinny jeans, a simple green top with an intricate back design and a pair of brown platform sandals. She decided she would look presentable without being formal nor casual. After taking a shower and making herself something to munch on, she went back to her room. She loved taking showers and then just wearing her favorite long, black silk robe, the feeling of the silk on her moist skin and the sensation the cold air from the conditioner on it, was the most pleasant feeling she could give herself. She brushed a dark green shadow over her eyelids and softly lined them up with black, before sweeping black mascara across her long lashes. Then after applying a bit of clear lip gloss, she was done and ready to start getting dressed.
She pulled one of the newest La Perla thongs she’d bought via catalog, out of her dressed and slipped into it, discarding of her robe, which fell to the bare wooden floor with a silent whoosh. Her eyes then looked around the room, landing first on her blonde wood four poster bed, still unmade after she woke up that morning, the clothes she’d chosen for her dream date laying quietly by the edge. She then thought of him, where was he right now? What was he doing? Was he already ready? Or had he realized his mistake of inviting a total stranger out for dinner and would stand her up?
“Well…” - she said out loud as she reached for the jeans to pull them on. “If he does leave me hanging, I’ll just go out bar-hopping by myself.” She shrugged and after she managed to pull on her top and adjusted it to her body, she brushed her hair back into a slick low ponytail, before she slipped into her heels.
“Wee…!” - she giggled. “I love these!” - she gushed to herself, proud of her latest shoe binge.
Now all she had to do was for him to pick her up, he was supposed to be there in less than half an hour. She walked out into her living room/dining room/foyer area and picked things here and there, making the place look more organized than it was. Then she simply stood there, mindlessly staring at the framed pictures of her with friends, her family and her beloved pets.
“My poor Bella.” - she said softly, running a french manicured finger over the most recent picture of her 4 month old Balinese cat.
Bella was staying over at the vet’s that night. A few days ago she’d found a strange lump on the back of one of her paws, and that morning Bella had undergone surgery. She’d talked with the vet and he’d said that the surgery had been a success and that the lump hadn’t been anything to worry about, though he’d sent it to pathology anyways and would be getting the results back in a few days, and that he’d prefer if Bella was allowed to stay the night, just so he could look her over the next morning.
And so tonight, her perfect date was not only that, but it would keep her out of her house a bit before she had to go to sleep and hopefully she wouldn’t miss her beloved kitty that much. Then she heard the unmistakable sound of her door bell and she looked over at the closed wooden door, and she felt a stirring inside her knowing that he was just behind it, and absolutely looking hot. She walked over and pulled the heavy blonde wooden door open, and she smiled at being right. There he stood, a pair of black slacks and a white button down shirt, the cuffs rolled up his impressive arms and the few top buttons left undone. He looked absolutely perfect.
“Wow…” - he breathed upon the sight of her. “You look amazing.” - his deep guttural voice said, making her blush hotly.
“Thank you, so do you.” - she said honestly.
They stood there simply staring, taking each other in as if they were creating a mental image to stay with them for the rest of their lives.
“Well…” - he said clearing his throat. “Ready to go?” - he asked.
“Um… yeah. Just let me grab my purse.” - she said disappearing into the house.
He took a few steps forward to look inside, his brown gaze landing on a very nice looking house, stylish yet comfortable-looking couches around an oval-shaped pane of glass sitting on top of a big aquarium full of real sea-plants and from where he stood a few fishes were seen. Then he looked to his right and saw all the floating glass shelves holding framed pictures, and on the floor to his left a huge glass vase that served as the home for the biggest orchid he’d ever seen.
“Is that real?” - he asked seeing her coming forward, holding a small, black D&G bag.
“Yeah…” - she smiled. “Come in and see for yourself.” - she said motioning for him to do so, and smiling even brighter when he did. “Before my mom passed away, she taught me to love them and to care for them, I have more outside, around the garden and in the back terrace, but this one is my favorite and she’s a bit more delicate than the others, hence why she’s inside. Plus, Bella loves her also.”
“Bella?” - he asked confused.
“My Balinese cat.” - she blushed.
“Oh, and where is she?” - he asked again, this time looking around for the cat.
“At the veterinary hospital.” - she replied, shaking her head in reassurance when she saw him about to apologize. “She’s fine, I just found a lump on her paw and took her there this morning, her doc said she’s doing marvelously and that I’ll be able to get her tomorrow.”
“Ohh… you had me worried there for a second.” - he said giving out a hearty chuckle.
“Sorry.” - she said sheepishly, blushing again when he took her hand and placed it on his arm after dropping a kiss on the back of it.
“Then out we go.” - he said, leading her out.
“Out we go.” - she nodded with a giggle, closing and locking the door to her house before following him down the few steps to her driveway.
“Oh, I see the orchids.” - his voice said in the dark, as he noticed the flowers in the pale moonlight.
“Yup, the whole place is spotted with them… not all of them bloom at the same time, but when one gets old another one is just opening…” - she said softly, as they stopped for him to get a better look at her house.
“This is one beautiful house.” - he said, admiration present in his voice.
“Thank you, I quite love it myself.” - she said.
Finally, they slipped into his rented Mercedes Benz and were on their way to the restaurant where he’d made reservations earlier. Being a big name in Hollywood had its perks and getting into exclusive restaurants without problems was one of them. All through dinner he couldn’t help but stare at the sight of the woman that was accompanying him. He was simply mesmerized by her beauty and her easiness. She was a comfortable person to be around, and he found himself very drawn to that. He was used to women flocking to him, just for his status or his money, but she hadn’t asked a single personal question, absolutely no clinging to him trying to get everyone to see who she was with, and as far as the night had gone, she hadn’t said anything about mentioning him to friends or co-workers. It felt safe to be with her, he felt that she wouldn’t do him wrong, and that was definitely a plus with him. And it didn’t hurt one bit that she was hot to boot.
“Don’t spaz out on me.” - she giggled, taking a sip of her water.
“Sorry.” - he chuckled, his brown eyes staring into her green ones.
“Mind if I ask what distracted you?” - she asked softly.
“Not at all…” - he shook his head. “I was simply realizing that you are quite different from the lot of women I’ve come across in my life.”
“How so?” - she asked, surprise clear in her face.
“Well, you haven’t clung to me, even if I would love it if you did.” - he winked, making her blush and duck her gaze. “You haven’t mentioned how you told your friends or something and I don’t see anyone following us, and most of all, you haven’t tried to grab attention.”
“All the girls you’ve encountered do that?” - she asked sadly, somewhat knowing what he went through. Being a socialite, she was never sure who was friend or foe. She was never sure who was in it to be her friend or who was in it just to steal money from her or to gain attention just by being her acquaintance or by being seen with her.
“Pretty much.” - he nodded, taking a sip of his own water.
“I kinda know what that feels like.” - she said, her eyes locked with his.
“Do you now?” - he asked curiously.
A few hours of chatting, and getting to know each other, time came to leave. After the tab was paid, he reached for her hand, entwining their fingers together as they walked back out to the car and got in. She was sure she was still in that darned dream and that any moment now she would wake up in her bed, by herself. But that time never came, for the feeling of his hand enveloping hers was far too real to be a dream.
“I had a great time tonight.” - his gruff voice said, as he turned slightly to look at her.
“I did too.” - she nodded, her green eyes searching his handsome face in the darkness of the backseat, only the passing streetlights aiding her in her quest.
“What are your plans for tomorrow?” - he asked, his hand tightening around her own.
She smiled at that, and returned the soft squeeze. “Well, I have to work at noon, and then I’m free for the weekend. Why?”
“Well, I just wanted to hang out with you, get to know you better.” - he said.
“That’s a very high possibility…” - she giggled, her gaze traveling out the windows to see that they were nearing her house.
“Well, I’ll call you tomorrow then and then we’ll decide what to do.” - he said softly, his usually hoarse voice, tamed down.
“Okay.” - she grinned, feeling the anxious butterflies coming to life in her stomach.
After exchanging phone numbers, he opened the door and helped her out. Holding onto her hand, he escorted her to her door and waited as she pushed the massive door open.
“Well, I bid you goodnight Miss…” - he started, only to stop when he realized that after being with her the entire day, he still didn’t know her name.
“I haven’t told you my name?” - she asked truly embarrassed. “Oh, my God.” - she giggled.
“No, you haven’t.” - he smiled widely at her flushed cheeks.
“I’m sorry, my name is Katharina Black, but my friends call me ‘Kat’.” - she introduced herself.
“Well, Kat…” - he grinned. “I bid you goodnight…” - he said bringing her hand to his mouth to place a kiss on the back of it. “And I will see you tomorrow…” - he smiled.
“I bid you goodnight as well… and yes, you will see me tomorrow. Have a good night.” - she smiled. Her smile wavered though, when he pulled her closer to him and dropped a soft kiss on her lips.
“Goodnight.” - he winked before heading back to the car.
Kat’s lips still tingled from the kiss as she turned and walked into her house, automatically locking the door and setting the alarm on, before she headed for her room. ‘Oh, my God.’ she thought as she sat down on her bed, kicking her sandals off at the same time she laid back.
“Oh, my God!” - she giggled to herself as she finally digested the evening’s events. “Katharina you are so damn lucky!” - she told herself. “Not only you met your favorite hunky movie star, but you also went out to dinner with him and got a goodnight kiss!”
She was beyond herself with excitement as she slid off her bed to undress and remove her makeup.
“I bet I’ll have some sweet dreams of a certain Mr. Vin Diesel tonight!” - she squealed as she slipped her naked body between the white silk sheets and her comforter, getting comfortable to go to sleep. “And you’re seeing him tomorrow again! You lucky, lucky girl!” - she said to herself before drifting into a peaceful slumber.
