The room was dark. Not a dim light could be distinguished there, except for the blinking light of the clock, announcing 1.30. The rhythmic blinking of it was driving him crazy; he felt his heart beating harder and faster every second. The thought of calling her crossed his mind but he repressed this feeling. He barely could be seen, lying by the sofa with an almost consumed cigar on his right hand. The smell of it filled the room; it was as if the smoke and the darkness were one, melting and forming figures that disappeared in an instant.
A million thoughts crossed his mind: the first time he had seen her, how he had felt that day. She was so cheerful and happy, contrasting his dark, moody character. The moment her eyes met his was as if his lonely heart had awaken in an instant, as by some kind of spell. He didn’t know how they had begun to talk, but before he could notice he had fallen for her. Her smile, her scent, and her emerald green eyes captivated him.
He felt he could take it no longer. The waiting was killing him. He though she would not come, although deep inside, something was telling him everything would be all right.
The clock struck 2.00. At that moment three knocks on the door rumbled all over the room. His heart stopped for a moment, or so he thought. Slowly he got up and slid towards the door. He felt the coldness of the floor in his bare foot and how it moved upwards through his spine. He opened the door to find her, standing in front of him with a warm smile on her face. He could only move enough to let her in, and by the time he was closing the door she was leaving her coat on the sofa. She was wearing a tight black t-shirt with a white fairy on it and light-blue jeans; he was wearing the black shirt she loved so much and dark blue jeans.
‘I’m sorry I’m late,’ her voice reverberated in the room.
‘It’s ok,’ he replied, stupidly. The sight of her made him feel, in a way, uncomfortable. He felt as if he could not hide anything from her.
She moved closer to him. Although he wanted to be in her arms more than anything he stood there, hiding his eyes from her.
‘What’s wrong?’ she asked, a bit worried.
He did not answer; he just let himself fall on the sofa. She moved closer to him until she was standing right in front of him. In a rush of panic he folded his arms around her waist. This surprised her at first but then she began to caress his messy dark hair. He felt safe with her by his side. His heart was bumping fast and loudly, it could almost be heard over the silence of the night. She knelt down by his side and took his childish face in her hands. He looked at her in the eyes and felt naked; he knew how well she could read his eyes as if they were open books. They were an open door to his soul.
‘I love you,’ he could finally mumble.
Her smile warmed his heart in an instant. She knew how bad he needed her. Her love to him grew every second he was by her side. She felt her heart filled with love and passion. She moved her lips towards his, trembling. He closed his eyes and felt how her kiss saved him from darkness. He kissed her back, sweetly first and passionately later. She sat on the sofa by his side, kissing and holding him. Her fingers ran through his hair desperately. Slowly she began to unbutton his shirt, feeling his chest moving rhythmically by his breathing. He ran his hands all over her back, feeling her soft skin shiver by his touch.
Before they could know it they were in his bed, naked, feeling each other’s body. He kissed her belly and felt her trembling. His hands moved all over her body, making her moan with pleasure and excitement. “I love you” was all she could say. He knew it was true, he could feel it deep inside himself.
He woke up with her by his side. Her naked body was partly covered by the black silk sheets. Some rays of light coming from the window illuminated her face. He stared at her, thinking about the previous night. He recapitulated the events in his mind, not being able to believe it. She opened her eyes slowly, not being able to open them widely because of the sunlight.
‘Good morning,’ he said.
‘Hi,’ she replied.
They lay there, looking at each other, feeling how their love filled the room. The darkness had been beaten by their love.
