Randy watched the two from across the ring and frowned. It just wasn’t right. Everyone knew the way that Shane treated Trish, and yet she still stayed with him. All because of the fact that what a McMahon wanted a McMahon got. Of course, as much as Randy liked to imagine he could be her knight in shining armour he knew it would never happen. He had only spoken maybe a handful of words to Trish in his entire career with the WWE. He was a chicken shit when it came to talking to her. She was so beautiful, so intelligent, so in need of someone more deserving…
Yet all she seemed to get was Shane. The billion dollar asshole. In a way, he could see how someone could be attracted to all that money, and even Randy would admit that he could be considered someone blessed with good looks. But his personality and attitude left little to be desired.

“What do you think about jobbing to Christy?”
“You mean letting her have my title!? Shane, she can’t even wrestle!” Trish argued. She couldn’t even believe that he was suggesting such a thing. It wasn’t that she wanted to keep the title, in fact she didn’t mind the idea of giving it up for a while. What really got to her was the idea of giving it to someone who had never wrestled before, and only got a contract because she happened to appeal most to the male audience. “Why not Nora, or even Lisa?”
“The fans want to see Christy right now. They don’t want wrestlers, they want pieces of ass to look at. Christy’s a playboy cover girl, so really it works in our favour.” Shane hated trying to explain things to Trish. He wished that she could just agree or disagree with what he said. “Of course, you do know that you don’t have to lose the title. Anything you want, you can have Trish.”
Trish saw right through his statement. She knew that there was a price for everything that she wanted. Shane never gave anything for free. “Christy can have the title. Wouldn’t want to lose you some money.”
“That’s not what I meant.” Shane was anything but impressed with the little act she was putting on. He knew damn well that she didn’t want to lose the title to Christy, but she didn’t want to deal with Shane. He knew her far to well not to be able to read that little one. “You just need to grow the fuck up Trish, the world doesn’t revolve around you.”
“And when did I say that?” There he went again, putting words into her mouth. “Look, Shane, there really isn’t any point to arguing about this. Christy can have the damn title, not like I own it.”
Shane sighed. “Trish, you’re forgetting what I can do. I can make you and I can break you. I could put you right on top and give you that title for as long as you want. You may not own that title, but I do.”
She hadn’t forgotten. She knew damn well he owned every single aspect of her career. He had only threatened her with it at least a million times already. Trish would even go as far to say that he had blackmailed her with her career before. Why she still stayed with him was beyond her. Maybe deep down she loved the power he gave her, or even more maybe she just loved him. “Like I said, she can have it.”
“You know what? Forget it. You’re keeping it, like it or not.” Shane was sick and tired of it, he’d end the entire thing right there. “You will have that title until the fans are sick of seeing you with it. Until they suddenly want nothing to do with Trish Stratus. Your popularity will drop so fast you-”
“It won’t work. Your threats, they mean nothing to me Shane.” Trish retaliated. She wasn’t going to let him take her down. Talk to her as if she were nothing. Think that he could control her life so easily. Shane often forgot that Vince had more control over what happened then she did. Eventually he’d have Trish lose the title. The threat was meaningless.
Looking up, Shane noticed that he and Trish were getting a few looks their way. He didn’t like it. He didn’t enjoy the fact that people already knew so much about their relationship when clearly it was none of their business. He had heard the rumours, he knew what people thought about them. The reality of it was that they had no idea. “We are going to continue this is my office.”
“No, we’re not. Shane I still need to warm up in the ring.” There was no way she was going to miss out on it. Her and Nora always had things pre-planned. They went over any high risk moves or ones that simply needed to be calculated precisely. Shane was not going to take that away from her.
Leaning down close to her ear, Shane frowned. ‘If you don’t go with me now, I will drag you kicking and screaming. I‘ll warn you now, if it comes down to that, you are going to be a very sorry woman.” Trish bit her bottom lip until she could taste the coppery hint of blood. She knew he’d do it, and she knew that the penalty for it wouldn’t be worth the fight.
Giving up, Trish held her hand out to Shane and a signal that she would go with him. When he took it, she couldn’t help but flinch at how tight his grip was. It was a warning, one telling her not to try anything else. “Much better.” Shane noted as the two began to make their way beside the ramp to the back. “See, things can be so easy if you’d just listen to me Trish. The only one who makes things hard is you.”
“I’m sorry Shane.” She didn’t know why she was apologizing. As far as Trish was concerned, she had done nothing wrong, but it was what Shane like to hear. If she hadn’t said it on her own, he would have forced it out of her eventually. He always did.
Rounding another corner, Trish frowned when they came upon the door that had his named clearly marked on it. It was the last place she wanted to be, mostly because inside no one would be there watching to keep Shane under control. Swallowing, she waited for Shane to open and hold the door for her before entering. The moment she heard the door close behind her, she shut her eyes.
“What the fuck was that! What exactly did you think you were trying to pull?” Shane accused, his voice much louder then it had been out by the ring. “Why do you always feel the need to broadcast our conversations to everyone else in the company?”
“I didn’t mean to.”
“Yeah, Trish, you did!” If she didn’t mean it then she wouldn’t have made such a commotion out by the ring. She had known exactly what she was doing. “If you ever do it again, I will make you make you regret ever coming into this company.” To prove his point, Shane brought the back of his hand right across Trish’s face.
Eyes wide, Trish’s hand immediately flew up to her cheek. She could feel the stinging of her tears trying to break free. She wouldn’t do it though. She refused to cry in front of him. That would be giving into him, giving into the abuse. Out of everything she allowed him to do, the one thing she would stand up against was having him make her cry. She’d never cry and she’d never scream.
Looking up, she watched his face soften. “I’m sorry.” He whispered under his breath. “I didn’t mean to hit you Trish. I was just…come here.”
Trish stood her ground. She didn’t want him to touch her. When Shane figured that much out, he took a step towards her, arms wrapping around her body to pull her close. As his chin rested on the top of her head, Trish felt a single tear slide down her cheek. “It’s okay Shane.”
