She’s cheating on you, you know.
Now, just verbalize the words.
That’s right, Melissa, you have to be the one to tell him. You don’t have a choice now.
Of course she did. That’s why she wasn’t saying anything. There was always a choice; it was just a matter of making the right one. But what is the right choice when you know your best friend’s wife is cheating on him?
“Melisande?” Jack questioned with a smile.
“Yes, Thomasina, you rang?” Melissa said back without returning his smile.
“Hey, we’re in public. I’m Jack out here.” He pushed the rest of a greasy fry in his mouth and followed with a napkin completely missing the grease slick on his chin.
“Okay, JACK, you’ve got some shit on your face.” Melissa emphasized his name enough to make some folks turn and check him out. Her fingertip slipped through the air as he pulled back and away from her. He answered her questioning look with a firm shake. He took the extra swipe at his own face with the used napkin.
“I got in so much trouble with Tanya when those pictures surfaced of my arm around you on the boardwalk. We can’t look that intimate in public again.” The shock in Melissa’s eyes also did not go unnoticed.
“Seriously-” Jack started.
“You’ve got to be kidding me. She’s known me for years. YEARS, Jack, and she’s gonna pull that crazy, jealous wife shit now?!” Melissa began clearing their table and Jack wrapped his arm around her waist as people in near by booths turned to look at them.
“Watch out, Jack, they might have cameras.” Melissa made a face at the onlookers, which prompted Jack to kindly smile and wave at them. Those people continued to talk as Jack and Melissa finally left the restaurant.
“Seriously, Mel, what the hell has gotten into you?!” Jack’s face contorted into a shocked grimace; which might have elicited a smile from Melissa if she were watching him in a movie on the big screen. But here, in this moment, she knew he was being sincere.
“Tommy, I, I can’t go into it here.” Jack stopped in his tracks. When Melissa called him any non-comical variation of his birth name, he knew it was something serious. He followed her to the car in silence and took the keys from her when he tried to sit in the passenger’s seat. “I don’t think I should be driving right now.” Secretly, he agreed with her.
When they pulled into Jack’s estate and Melissa noticed that Tanya’s car was not there, she turned to him and spoke quickly.
“No, I don’t know when she will be back. Why?” Jack stopped the car and placed his hand on Melissa’s forearm before she could leave the car.
“What is this about, Melissa, I need to know.” Jack sat back and silently begged her to stay. His look was intense, but Melissa firmly denied him.
“We should really go inside. I don’t want to risk her overhearing us.” Melissa’s eyes darted around the outside of the car and the estate, for what she could see from this standpoint.
“Fine,” visibly shaken and confused, Jack slammed the driver’s side door and followed Melissa inside. When she heard the front door open and close behind her, Melissa turned quickly from the bar in the front room.
She had obviously poured herself a strong one and Jack soon followed suit.
“Wha-” Jack began, and Melissa did not hesitate.
“She’s cheating on you, Jack, and I’ve known for several months.” Melissa watched Jack’s face sink. He was about to stand up when Melissa held him there by displaying the palm of her hand.
“Let me correct myself. I’ve suspected for several months, but have known for sure in the last couple of months.” He shot the entire drink and slammed the crystal tumbler on the mahogany table. His eyes caught hers and he stammered.
“When the pictures surfaced. When those God damned pictures of us from w:st="on">Atlantic City surfaced, she started looking around. Doubted me from the first second, right, Melissa, isn’t that right?” Melissa shook her head and set her own tumbler down next to Jack’s.
“No, she was ‘looking around’ weeks before those photos surfaced.” Melissa sat on the couch and Jack was up, pacing the floor. His hands went through and made his hair crazy. Feet pounded the carpeted floor, and his breathing quickened.
“How do you know for sure?” Jack would not even face Melissa. She assumed that he would hate her. Melissa hoped he did not notice the hesitation in her statement.
“I know the…person she’s been seeing.” No, he most certainly had not.
“Who is he? Melissa Anne, who the hell is taking my wife from me?” Jack sat next to the younger blonde, and leaned his head against her shoulder shaking it. “Who is he?”
Melissa wrapped her arm around Jack and looked out into the air in front of her.
Long after Melissa had left, Jack created an extravagant dinner and set up the table to be lavish and inviting. Candles lined the center of the eight-foot formal dinner table. Two places were set with the platinum-lined china his parents bought them as a wedding present. Crystal champagne flutes held the best California champagne on the market, and the freshly-shined silver rested close to the china. Jack waited for Tanya to walk through the door. He told himself to be calm, to not cry or lash out at her. They hadn’t just delivered their son into the world, and she was sleeping around?! What did he do; what did he not do? All night, he wondered if he would be able to get over this.
“Jack, honey, you home?”
“In the dining room, Tanya, waiting for you.” Tanya walked in and Jack watched her eyes brim with fresh tears. A smile slowly spread from the center of her full pink lips to the lobe of each ear. Samuel was held on her hip, and Jack immediately moved to take him from her.
“I called my mother, and she’s taking Samuel for the weekend. But we really only need tonight together. Judith will be here in about 15 minutes.” Tanya nodded, obviously lacking the power of speech, and sat herself at the seat adjacent to the head of the table.
Jack went upstairs and prepared little Sam for his trip to grandma’s house.
“I’m sure you’re going to miss mommy, Sammy, but she’s been naughty and she’s going to have to go away for awhile. I don’t know if she’ll be back. We’ll just have to wait and see.” Jack felt the vibration of his cellular phone in his front pocket and checked the display quickly. He answered and explained that he would be calling Melissa later with all the details.
“Jack, this meal, the time alone. Why?” There was no smile to match hers on her husband’s face. There was no gentle touch of her hand from his. Jack’s tone was less than inviting or even warm.
“I just want to know what his name is, Tanya. What is his name?” His hands moved to grip the edge of the table. Tanya began to pull back from the dinner table and speak in disgust. Jack stopped her.
“Don’t bother denying it, since you’ve been lying for several months.”
“Jack, I don’t know what you’re talking about. There is no other man.” Jack grabbed the edges of the table and turned it away from her, sending it hurtling to the wall opposite Tanya. Grilled chicken bits and alfredo-covered angel hair pasta was strewn all over the egg-shell white wall. Tanya would have been sent into a fit of hysterics if it were not her own dining room walls.
“Then who have you been fucking for the past six, seven, eight months, Tanya, who? Don’t act like I don’t know or that I’m mistaken. There were no pictures in Star Magazine this time, Tanya, just cold, hard facts.” Jack began pacing the floor once more, not even paying any attention to the alfredo sauce he got closer and closer to tracking all over the beige carpeting.
“I haven’t – I – Jack, who told you this disgusting lie?” Tanya wrapped her arms around herself and began to cry. Clear streams made their way down the slopes of her cheeks, but Jack felt no pity for her.
“Someone, anyone, the birds in the trees chirped it out in Morse code. What does it matter who told me? Isn’t it more important that someone had this to tell me anyway?! That you couldn’t be honest enough with me, have enough respect for our family to be honest, isn’t that the bigger point here?!” Jack now sat at a chair with no table before it. What would have otherwise been a dinner that led to passionate love-making, became the dinner that would officially tear his family apart. Jack did not think he would be eating chicken alfredo anytime soon.
“Well, no, I guess that doesn’t really matter. But if I’m being accused of such a heinous crime, then don’t I have the right to know who is pointing such a finger at me?” Jack looked up at her and moved to his knees in front of her. He wrapped his thick fingers around hers and kissed the pads of her fingertips.
“Are you telling me it isn’t true? That you’re sitting here accused and not confessing to something so heinous. Tell me there isn’t another man, and that if there is, you’ll end things with him.” Something in Jack’s eyes pleaded with Tanya to tell him what he wanted to hear.
“There isn’t another man, Jack, I promise you that.” Jack, without another word, leapt from his feet and pointed a finger at Tanya.
“Then why have I heard accounts of you coming and going from seedy hotels. You often leave alone, but you’re recognized. This person, the one who told me all of this, says you never look like this when you’re entering or leaving these hotels.” Jack used his right index finger to scan over the plum Armani suit she currently donned. Tanya’s hair was recently styled and her make-up was flawless. However, worry filled her eyes. She had been discovered. There was no way to hide it now, or was there?
“Well?!” Jack stood, indignant, before her. A man she’d known for 15 years had suddenly changed into an angry, sad man. It was her fault. It was something that she had never been able to deny within her. And why should she deny it, except for the fact that she just hadn’t been honest about it. There was no way to just blurt it out now and expect Jack to accept it. There would be no acceptance now, no forgiving and warm embrace. There would be no welcoming her back home. She had done this to herself and now she must face it.
“It’s a woman, Jack, I’ve been sleeping with another woman.”
“A WOMAN! Melissa, she’s been sleeping with a woman!” Jack slammed the palm of his hand against the steering wheel of his pitch black muscle car. A horn honked as he thoughtlessly swerved and cut the other driver off to make it through an impossible intersection. The light flipped to red just as he passed through.
“Yes, I’m driving. I’m coming to your place, if that’s okay. Yeah, yeah. I know I shouldn’t be on the phone. Okay, okay, I’ll call you when I get there.”
Melissa clicked the buzzer on the intercom next to her bed and heard Jack pull in the driveway. She didn’t move herself from the bed, but felt perfectly comfortable shouting at Jack to ‘come on upstairs’ when the front door was opened and violently slammed shut.
“I could handle her sleeping with another man, Mel, I could compete with that. But when you women start sleeping together, it’s a whole new ballgame.” And finally he’d looked at her. Once his pacing had ceased and his breathing had gotten up in the arena of potential fainting spell, he’d looked at her. Her silk pajamas hung from her curvy frame, dark blue and hunter green stripes alternated and stood out against her pale skin. The beige cami-style tank top blended with her natural tone and was practically invisible. She lounged back against the down and cotton pillows idly watching television as he ranted. Her short, naturally and highlighted blonde hair curled up around her cheeks and just under her ears in chunky, piece-y layers.
“A-are you listening, Mel?” He’d stammered, barely able to speak. Her corn silk blue eyes captured his and his breathing nearly stopped all together.
“Of course, Jack, I always listen to you. And I have to admit that when a woman sleeps with a woman, going back to a man is difficult. It’s like riding a unicycle all your life and then realizing there’s a bike with two wheels. Riding that unicycle again feels familiar, but will always feel different.” Melissa chewed her bottom lip and ran the fingers of her right hand through her hair. Jack just watched and spoke without thinking.
“You’ve never even ridden a unicycle, Melissa, that comparison isn’t apt.” Melissa groaned and rolled out of her bed. Her pajama bottoms slipped just enough to let Jack see the lacey, butterfly cut panties she wore beneath them. His breath caught.
“If you would have been listening to the analogy instead of focusing on the modes of transportation you would have found it completely apt for the situation.” Melissa padded down the stairs toward the kitchen and felt Jack closely following her. “You okay, Thomasina?” When she turned the scent of aloe and a musky body spray flooded Jack’s senses. His words caught in the back of his throat, explaining why his lips were moving but no words were coming out.
“Melisande, I need a drink.” Jack could think of no other sentence to properly formulate.
“That’s what I figured.” Melissa turned quickly and resumed her trek to the kitchen. “You sound like you need several. I have tequila.”
“This will be a long night,” Jack muttered.
Countless shots and three-quarters of a salt shaker later, Jack and Melissa had found their way into her bedroom once more. The biggest television in the house was up there and they were watching concert DVDs.
“Melisande,” which wound up sounding like Melishaande, “You know, you know that AC/DC is waaaay better in concert than The Stones.” Jack slapped her thigh generously and Melissa didn’t stop him. She merely smiled as she grabbed a chunk of his hair and tilted his head back. He groaned as his head moved back with no argument. Melissa licked his Adam’s apple and dumped salt on the moist spot. She shot the tequila from the miniature glass and licked the salt from his neck. He handed her a slice of lime blindly and started speaking. Melissa’s hand came from nowhere and covered his mouth.
“No, The Stones have been performing live for more than 40 years. FOUR DECADES, Jackie Boy, that’s almost older than you! Almost,” she said the last word slowly and with her mouth right next to his. Somewhere between shots 30 and 100, Melissa had lost the shirt of her pajamas and now lounged against him with that beige colored tank top on. Her breasts nearly falling from the form-hugging top. He wanted nothing more than to give those mounds of flesh the treat of his warm mouth and tongue. He wanted to know what she tasted like when she came. He physically shook the thoughts away and pulled away from her slightly. Melissa took no personal offense.
“What 40 sound too old to you? Don’t worry, Jack, you’re still pretty.” Her hands slid along the sides of his face and her mouth was millimeters away from his. Without a word, Jack leaned forward and kissed her. Deeply and with more passion than he’d kissed his wife with in months. Melissa lingered for a minute then pulled back slowly.
“I’ve been waiting for you to do that for years. If I had known that all it took was some concert DVDs and tequila, we could have been kissing like that long ago.” Jack’s fingers twisted in her short locks, and she leaned against his neck and chest firmly with her shoulder blades. Her hands slid down the sides of his thighs and she pressed the curve of her ass against his crotch. His khaki shorts did nothing to hide how he felt about this specific position, and Melissa only pressed harder. He groaned against the back of her neck and slipped his hand around to the front of her body. Her breasts fit perfectly into the palm of his hands, and he squeezed them firmly. She tilted her head back and to the side, moaning, giving him access to the side of her neck. When his lips met that tender flesh, Melissa’s body shuddered against his chest and stomach.
How was I completely unaware of her before this moment?
He closed his eyes when one of her hands encompassed one of his. Melissa led his fingers inside the waistband of her pajama bottoms and then inside the lacey material of her panties. She slyly removed her hand so it seemed as if this manual excursion was all Jack’s idea to begin with. His hand continued without hers to discover how wet and warm she already was.
“Melissa,” was a moan from his lips and she drove her hips against his. She relished in the sensation of his erection pressed against her buttocks and moistening pussy.
“I want you, Jack, now.” Without argument, Jack used the back of his hands to slip the silky pants down her thighs and to the floor. Her panties went with very little fanfare and before he could speak his shorts were open and slipped down his thighs just far enough for Melissa to pull his ever-growing erection from his boxers.
“Con-” Jack started. Melissa shook her head and slipped over his swollen cock. Her warmth enveloped him, stretching and restricting all at the same time. Feeling every inch of the molten lava that seemed to be drowning his solid prick, made Jack want to go mad. It was a sweet madness that befell his mind, a beautiful insanity that comes from wanting, yearning, longing to be one with someone and feel what they’re feeling; to know what they’re knowing.
“God, Jack,” Melissa groaned with her head tilted back towards the ceiling. She felt his fingertips dig into her hips and she rode him harder, taking him deeper. She could feel her body tightening, restricting already against that most desired release. She staved it off, relishing in being so intimate with Jack. Wanting him inside her forever. Never wanting him to leave, she feared the emptiness that would result from such a separation. Her thighs clung to his torso, begging him to stay. Her hands dug at the conglomeration of sheets and blankets beneath them, then traveled onto his chest raking at the skin there. She longed to pull him closer, feel his warm and sweaty skin next to hers.
“Yeah,” was the word that escaped on his guttural groan when he granted her wish before she could vocalize it. He sat up, instantly driving him deeper than he’d ever thought imaginable. Her warmth, the very heat of her core, flooded him. The moist deep took him in and he never wanted to leave. He held her around the waist and let her move on him. He felt her inner muscles begin to milk him, but she stopped it and he drove into her deeper to elicit the one sensation he wanted to feel all night. He wanted, nay needed, her to come. And he needed her to come right this second.
“Come, baby, please,” He begged. Melissa heard it in his voice. She wanted him to come first, and come on his wave. The thought of his losing it, his coming within her sent her over the edge. She lost all control and gave into him, deeply, with everything she could muster. The muscles, those intimate muscles, tightened around his throbbing cock and Melissa could feel him let go. His come surged through her. It felt like a flood, gushing forth and storming her pussy. She held the back of his head so his mouth was directly connected to her collar bone. She moaned and bucked against his hips, feeling her orgasm at its shuddering peak, but Jack didn’t stop.
He continued thrusting within her, making her squirm and wriggle against his body. Hearing his name over and over again between “Oh God” and “Please” was enough to keep going. He made her come again and feeling that liquid heat for the second time sent him soaring. He may not have come again, but being in heaven, reaching nirvana, was so much better than a second orgasm. He ran his fingertips down her spine to relax her body and bring her back to him.
Melissa’s eyes were closed to him and her body shuddered above his.
He’s more amazing than I ever could have imagined.
She moaned his name and slid down his body. Her breasts rubbed against his sweaty chest and he fell back against her padded headboard. For several minutes they sat like that, her straddling him, his slowly softening cock still deep within her. There was an almost inaudible plop when she moved slightly and he slipped out of her. She nestled herself against his chest and kissed the base of his neck.
She smelled amazing, of aloe, musk, and sweat. It was something Jack would never forget.
