Comments: My first out of the 50. I hope I can make this continual, but I might use side stories or something if needed. I hope you people reading the fic enjoy it and if so (even if not), c/c is highly appreciated ^_^ One more thing and you're good to go; English is not my first language, so sorry if there's some oddities but I did try to get rid of them XD
I watched silently as Die downed his umpteenth beer and the young man - well, at least he looked like a guy - under his arm giggled drunkenly. Turning my head, if I would be dumb enough to do that at this time of the night, I would have had a perfect view of our dear leader-sama going at it with our vocalist, the latter practically grinding his bony backside in the older mans lap. Toshiya was nowhere to be seen, I think I last saw him with... Tsunehito? I tried to recall which of the numerous indie-bands the petite looking boy was from but couldn't remember. "Never mind", I sighed and grabbed my wallet. Informing Die, who was getting quite busy with the blonde, that I would take my leave to the bar I scrambled to my feet and left.
After making my way through the packed dance floor I found a perfect spot right at the end of the bar counter and ordered a drink. And another. And another. After the 4th one I told the bartender to keep 'em coming and earned myself a comforting smile from the green-haired man. Giving a small smile in return I gulped the next one down when I suddenly felt someone sitting down next to me.
"I'll have whatever the lady is having", a deep and a bit mocking voice said and made me grimace; lady? I mean c’mon.
"Thanks a lot, but I'm not a lady..." I said and looked up, only to get caught in the gaze of a pair of brilliantly green eyes. I must have made some idiotic sound 'cos the next thing I saw was the full lips under the mesmerizing eyes twist into an amused grin.
"I know. I just wanted to get your attention", he said as I watched his lips form the said words. It was intriguing.
"Matsumura Yoshitaka, but you can call me Karyu", he continued and elegantly held out his hand. Shaking myself back from my own little world I took the offered hand, replied with "Terachi Shinya, hajimemashite... I guess" and took back my hand. It was tingling.
"I know who you are, who wouldn't?" he smiled at me and made me frown.
"So what? You want an autograph? A photo with me? Toshiya’s phone number or something else?" I snapped, too fast I knew, but damn if I wasn't tired of people coming to me for those reasons. Not the signature-part really, I love our fans, but did I really look like Toshiya's pimp or something?! I glared at him angrily and downed another drink. Either the drinks had started to lose their edge or I was just getting smashed.
"Aren't you feisty, little one. I'm not here for any of that. I saw you leave your friends over there and sit here all alone and just thought I'd check up on you, see that you're OK" he had lost his smile, probably because I was still frowning, but I could hear sincerity in his voice, so, managing a smile, I looked at him.
"I'm sorry. It's just... maybe I'm getting old or something or maybe it's just jet lag.. I'm just so tired and would appreciate some rest after the last few weeks but Kaoru-kun demanded a bonding night with the band but it seems that everyone else is bonding but me..." I blushed as I realized I was babbling. Why was I telling all of this to this... stranger? I studied his face from under my bangs as he spoke.
"Well, it seems I came to the right person then. It's OK to be tired you know. I was wired for days after we came back, snapping at everyone and feeling miserable" Karyu answered, not seeming irritated by my outburst at all. 'When we came back?' The words caught my attention. I probably looked confused 'cos his lips curved upwards again. Giving me time to think he leaned back in his seat and studied me as I did the same to him. He looked somewhat familiar, but I just couldn't but my finger on it.
"Add some make-up, hair extensions, stage costume, three band mates and a guitar and you're good to go" he grinned after a while and made me blush.
"You're from D'espairsRay aren't you? I think I saw you in Oricon a year or two ago... Toshiya likes you... err... I mean your bands music" I stammered but felt pleased with myself for figuring out his identity.
"Yeah, that's me" he grinned sheepishly. "Toshiya? Would that be the dirty blonde stick conquering the dance floor?" he pointed his thumb behind his back and I followed it with my eyes.
"That's him. Kinda hard to miss, ain't he?" I said a bit embarrassed though I would never admit that. I loved the bassist from the bottom of my heart, but he could be such a queen sometimes. I snorted as I pondered the idea a bit further. Ever since Toshiya had stopped dressing (so much) like a girl, I had heard rumours guessing the reason for his sudden change. Apparently he had a) lost a family member, b) gotten seriously depressed, c) he's actually *gasp* A MAN! or d) just gotten boring "like the rest of us".
"Ne, good to see you smile" Karyu's voice brought me back from my musings and I realized I was smiling like an idiot. Damn.
"No no. I meant it in a good way!" he protested as my smile faltered. Blushing, I mentally smacked myself, 'He's just trying to be nice to you!'. I let the smile return, well, almost, I didn't want to come out as a psycho, and tried to explain.
"See, everyone thinks he's being miserable or something 'cos he doesn't dress all girly anymore, but he just... I guess he doesn't want to dress like that anymore, you know. He said that he got tired on being just a pretty piece of flesh. Everyone looked at him like he'd be just some doll, all beautiful but nothing really going on up there", I made a motion towards my head and Karyu nodded. He seemed to understand what I was talking about. "He's still the same thought", I added, "likes to flirt around but someone will get a great love out of him." Shrugging, I moved my eyes from Toshiya to Karyu. He looked thoughful and for a second, insecure as I am, I thought he'd leave, that I had been too talkative, but instead of leaving, he got up and offered his hand. Sounding a bit shy but still managing to be totally in control of things, he opened his mouth and asked if I'd want to dance with him.
"Umm.. I don't really.. you know, dance" I tried, but - like I already knew - in vain. Soon I was pulled to the dance floor and I saw Toshiya giving me thumbs up. "Baka", I mumbled as Karyu led me on.
"Sorry"?" he asked, eyeing me.
"What? Nothing, I was just.. Toshiya's an ass" I blushed, for what seemed to be the billionth time since I had met him. Tightening his grip around me, Karuy nodded to my words and I, though I felt like I was violating his personal space or something, wound my hands loosely around his hips. He was wearing a loose, gray-black striped pullover which felt nice and soft under my bare arms. He felt nice and soft. It had been a long time since I had danced with someone like this. But then, a few more songs later, just as I was getting a bit more relaxed, starting to truly enjoy the whole dancing-thingy I felt a ruff tap on my shoulder. I turned around, angry at the person who had the nerve to disturb us, and came face-to-face with a plastered Die, the blonde still with him.
"Shin-chan! This is Mao, whose that?" Die The Drunken Bastard yelled and pointed at his companion, then mine. Embarrassed, I glanced at Karyu whose arms were still around me. He looked amused and I let my eyes get back to my dear redhead friend.
"Die, you're rude. You can't just bark in between two people!" I nodded to the short man with a small, "Nice to meet you. Die, this is Karyu", Karyu nodded, "and Karyu, this is our idiot guitarist, Ando Daisuke, utterly drunk and shamelessly disturbing other people's privacy, as usual." Although I was angry at Die for interrupting, I couldn't help but laugh at him and his obviously hard effort on standing straight. Karyu laughed with me as he shook hands with Die.
"Man, you're a great player! I've been to a few of your lives and you're amazing, it's inspiring really! You got fast hands", Karyu praised Die, though I'm not sure the man realized he was getting roses from a job well done. Oh well. The surprising thing was that I actually felt a ting of jealousy. Over what?! That a younger guitarist was merely giving his sempai positive feedback? I pushed the thought back and brushed a strand of hair out of my face.
"Die-kun, maybe it's time for you to get home for tonight. Here's some money for the cab, I owe you from last time, remember", I showed some yens at his hand and pushed him towards the entrance. Turning to Mao I wrote down my keitai number, just in case, and handed it to him.
"You don't seem that drunk, so take care of the man, ok? But don't call me unless it's emergency!" I got a nod of a head for an answer and soon the twosome was gone. I sighed. And remembered I had company.
"Should we go sit down?" Karyu asked and offered me a hand to guide us back to our corner by the counter. I sat back with a deep sigh and closed my eyes. I could feel him staring at me and smiled at him, eyes still closed.
"You've got a beautiful smile, you know that?" his voice was melting me.
"Well thank you" I replied and opened my eyes. He was leaning towards me with a strange expression on his face - he looked warm, inviting and curious, but with an edge. His eyes were almost black and I could feel my flesh creep. I gulped almost nervously as he leaned closer, towering over me. Feeling drunk from all the alcohol we had drank and the intoxicating scent of his breath I felt dizzy, but his warm hands on my wrists were holding me on to the reality.
"Can I... call you?" his warm breath tickled my neck and sent shivers down my spine. I nodded weakly as we stared at each other. Closing the few inches between us he lowered himself and brushed his lips gently on my forehead. I felt like burning. I quickly preyed my hands from his and dashed towards the door and with an almost inaudible 'gomen ne' I was out.
I ran the few blocks to my small apartment, got in and slumped on the floor, leaning my back against the door. My breath was hitched and it drew Miyu's attention. She made her way to me and I picked her up gently with my trembling hands. The parts of my skin where Karyu had touched were like burning and I blushed as I realized what I had done - left him so abruptly, standing alone in the bar. I cursed myself as I remembered I hadn't even left my number.
"You stupid... stupid! He wasn't gonna rape you or anything! Not everyone's like him..." I tried to assure myself as I stroked Miyus silky fur. My mind was a blur as a thousand things were mingling with each other.
I guess my exhaustion took over me 'cos the next thing I knew, I was woken up by the ringing of my keitai and my apartment was bathing in warm, early morning sun. Picking up the small device I flipped it open and stifled a yawn.
"Moshi moshi?"
