A/N: This is just an idea that hit me like a flashbulb when I was reading a fan fic from my dear friend. Here's the side of the character I created...
This is all fun and games, just hope you enjoy. I own some OC's but others were created by other friends that also are avid writers on this site. This is just my mini side of the story on my character of Family Traditions by Row_Reiley (FOB section). Here goes.
Ever hear of people saying that childhood can be so cruel? Growing up, one would be lying to say that their childhood has been 100% happy. Though, there are those that seem to rule the school yard. Then, there are those misfits, ostracized from the mainstream group, painfully striving to fit in to no avail. This is the story of one such misfit, striving to survive her teenage years.
A cluster of girls in the dining hall of a prestigious secondary school for young ladies, deep in conversation. These girls sat primly on their seats, their uniforms pristine and perfectly pressed. The perfection is then accented with that equally perfect hair. The girls seemed to be planning something. Conversation was especially leaning towards this girl by the name of Lilly, who seemed to be one of those girls in transition to fit in amongst the elite.
The 'Queen Bee' of this elite group smiled her perfect and dazzling smile at her future inductee, and had been creating quite a plan to pose as a haze of sorts, just to test her loyalties to the group of friends. This girl was one by the name of Anastasia. Anastasia's green eyes darted towards another table where a brunette girl, hardly looking older than fourteen sat, nose buried in a book. “Lilly, Dear. You mentioned that girl there is a friend of yours?” she drew out, drumming her perfectly manicured nails on the table for a quick answer. The girl named Lilly tilted her head in question before nodding. “Yes, her name is Catrianna. She's a bit eccentric, though not a bad person overall.” Anastasia's smile widened as she beckoned the younger girl to come close. “Listen closely. I'd like you to do a little something for me.” She leaned in, whispering in the girl's ear. Luckily enough, the girl was an imbecile to boot and easily molded. This would be perfect.
She beckoned the girl to go to her little friend, so Lilly did just that. She stopped over the girl and cleared her throat. The girl named Catrianna looked up, a bit startled, but then a shy smile broke. “Oh, hullo Lilly, having a good day?” Lilly raised an eyebrow, though smiled. “Absolutely spiffing. Though, I thought I'd ask you if you were up to seeing an amazing spot tonight at midnight. It's on top of the dormitories. They say you can see the stars very clearly from there. I knew you liked astronomy and such.” Catrianna nodded fervently. “Yes, of course. It's a new adventure right?” Lilly could have rolled her eyes at that comment though she smiled. “Of course, new adventures, never any better.” An awkward silence passed before Lilly stared at her elegant watch. “Oh, I ought to run. I'm meeting someone.” Cat's eyebrows raised. “A boy?” Lilly shook her head. “No. That in due time. Ta Darling.” With this, she did a quick kiss on either side and then scurried away. Catrianna shrugged and went back to her book, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
Lilly went back to Anastasia with a smile. “Mission accomplished. Now, what is this master secret you were all discussing?” Anastasia pressed a finger against the girl's lips with a mysterious smile on her face. “Shush darling, the surprise shall reveal itself in due time.” It was here where the bell rang and where the cluster of older girls would go another way. Anastasia waved the girl off to her own merry direction before she leaned in and whispered in another girl's ear. “She's perfect. Now, we ought to start setting the place up so that all goes in accord.” Smiling ever angelically, she tossed her perfect golden mane ever casually before she and her friends sauntered away in their superior manner.
Midnight came and about fifteen minutes had passed. A bored Lilly hung around, waiting for Catrianna to show up. “Catrianna! You're late!” The girl named Catrianna blushed slightly and smiled meekly. “Sorry, I had to finish the term paper.” Lilly rolled her eyes. “Paper, right. Now, follow me, we must get up there quickly before we are seen up after hours.” Cat hurried to follow the other girl's fast pace obediently. The two had come up to the roof of the dormitory which was rather steep in itself. Lilly motioned for the other girl to step out and to the roof. The view was rather nice to view. “Wait a moment, I forgot something. I'll be right back,” Lilly hastily muttered, ducking away. She then wandered off to meet the other girls. “Alright, now what?” Anastasia laughed as she reached for the window that Catrianna had climbed out of. She closed the window and locked it. “Now, we watch and see what happens.” Lilly's eyes widened with horror as she opened her mouth to speak. Anastasia rolled her eyes in exasperation as she snapped at the girl. “Listen, we never said things were going to be easy. You can deal with the demands, or kindly walk away. Make your decision.” Lilly stared at Cat's silhouette but then nodded. Anastasia smiled. “Now that's better. Come along Dearie.”
As time passed, Catrianna had started to first grow cold. Then, the faint rumble of thunder had been heard overhead. Blimey, Lilly had been gone quite a long time. When a flash of lightning was seen from the distance, the brunette's eyes widened. There was no possible way that being up here with weather like that was remotely safe. She crawled to the window where she crawled out of, and tried to force it open. It seemed to have been stuck. “Lilly, can you please open this window, it's stuck!” she called in there, thinking that perhaps her friend might be near.
The girls hiding behind the window giggled madly at her calling. “Well Lilly, are you going to open the window?” one jeered, tossing her ginger curls with a dignified smile. Lilly again had her eyes fixated on the window. She wandered to the glass and shook her head as she mouthed out the words 'I'm sorry.' This seemed to annoy the 'Queen Bee' some as she forcibly tugged her by the arm. “Oh move over!” she snapped, halfway shoving the younger girl to the side as she peered at the window. She clicked her tongue and shook her head. “We'll let her in later. Let us see what happens next.” She peered at the girl outside and waved with a smug smile.
Rain was starting to sprinkle now and there was now quite a chill. Catrianna, clad in nothing but a thin-fabric nightgown stared at the older girl in horror. She bit her lower lip as she pounded against the window pane. It was to no avail. The other girls were practically rolling in laughter. Even Lilly was starting to find this reaction rather funny. Catrianna, determined to find another window, chose to step away from the window and to crawl along the roof to find another window. So, when Anastasia had given the consent for Lilly to allow the girl back in, Catrianna was nowhere in sight. Lilly's face paled as she stared at the other girl in horror. “What do you mean you lost her?” Anastasia screeched as she pushed her aside. From the distance, she spotted the girl balancing dangerously along the roof, trying windows from another tower. “Sinclair! What do you think you're doing!?” she called, startling Catrianna to the point where she slipped. She let out a scream when she slipped, though the screaming soon stopped. Anastasia clambered onto the roof, balancing as the rain really was pouring by now. Laying spread eagle and deathly still, lay the girl who had fallen. Anastasia crawled back through the window, looking a bit ruffled herself. “The idiot fell.” Lilly's face paled as she lunged to go see. “What do you mean she fell. You killed her didn't you? This was supposed to be harmless.” Anastasia whirled around angrily as she took Lilly by the arm and dragged her to the center of the room. “Look Lilly, I like you. But you are going to have to grow a backbone. So I ask you, are you willing to face challenges like an adult, or shall you remain with the children?” Lilly bit her lip as she shook her head. “But I do have a backbone.” Anastasia shook her head. “That, you have to prove. Now, I am going to go downstairs and see the damage. Lilly, you are coming with me. But you are to do and agree with everything I say, understood?” She cast a severe look at the girl, who cowered slightly, but nodded with determination at her recent role-mode. “Understood,” she forced out.
When the two girls had found Catrianna, Lilly had opened her mouth to scream. There had been quite a lot of blood present, and the girl looked to be dead. Anastasia covered her mouth to silence her. “Silence! Now, you are going to run in and find an adult. You are going to tell them that we were all asleep when we heard a scream. We then found a girl outside unconscious and bleeding. Go! Now!” Lilly backed away and then broke into a run back into the building. Anastasia gulped before reaching to take the girl's pulse. She felt one, though hearing the girl's voice faintly nearly caused her to jump out of her skin. “Lilly, those girls are tarts. I told you that, and you join them.” Anastasia whirled around in annoyance, seeing the girl blinking wearily. “Who are you calling a tart?” she hissed in a dignified manner. Catrianna tried to shake her head, though let out a shudder as she could hardly move. “I'm dying aren't I?” She swallowed as she then grabbed hold of Anastasia by the wrist. “Why?” Anastasia pulled out of the girl's grip, not enjoying how cold her hands had been. “Don't you see? Your little friend is no friend to you. None of us are. Know that.” Catrianna let out a shuddering breath. “Damn you. Damn you all.” With this, her eyes closed and all was still.
It was at this point where help had arrived. Catrianna had barely reached the hospital alive. She was rushed into surgery, where she was stabilized for the time being. The surgeon shook his head piteously at her parents. “If she wakes, she'll never walk. I'm sorry.” Though, Catrianna was determined. She survived. One year later, she walked. Though one thing was known. She would be in pain for the rest of her life, though she ought to be grateful for walking.
---Six Years Later---
“Catrianna Marie Sinclair!” A woman stood at the bottom of the staircase, arms crossed. Catrianna scrambled out of her bed, though a sharp twinge of pain shot through her knee. With a gasp of pain she stumbled, though she caught herself. It was always most unfortunate that she could only rise to her feet a specific way so that her body did not scream in pain. She limped painfully down the stairs, just walking the twinge of pain off. “Mum,” she greeted dryly as she leaned against the railing so to take the weight off one particular knee. “Tell me, what is tonight?” Cat opened her mouth to say something before her mother interrupted her. “Tonight was that benefit dinner that I am chairing. You do know the entire family was expected to be there, yes?” The daughter's eyes widened as she realized what her mother was getting at. “Yet, I receive this call that you are to work as security at a music festival in Reading. Would you kindly explain to me what this is about?” Catrianna bit her lower lip as she peeled her blue gaze away from her mother's own severe one. “Mum, I confirmed it. I can't miss this. But, if I am quick, I can come home and be dressed in time. Please, I've been looking forward towards this all summer. My favorite band-” She was interrupted. “Band,” the woman scoffed. “Honestly Catrianna, you need to start knowing where you place in society is.” With this, the woman spun in one heel and then walked away to her own affairs. Cat glared at her mother's retreating back. “You wouldn't understand,” she whispered as she then headed back up the stairs to prepare to leave. She would have to get on a train in an hour if she wanted to make it to Reading. Taking her formal dress in its bag and a makeup case, she decided that she'd change there. When ready, she simply departed without a word, leaving the high class world behind yet again.
When she arrived, she was immediately beckoned by the head of Security. “Sinclair! You're late!” Cat blushed, storing away her dress and makeup case for later. “Sorry, the train-” Again, Catrianna was interrupted. “No excuses. We need to start setting out perimeters. The bands have already arrived. You are needed in the front to make sure no fans try to cross. Is that understood?” Catrianna nodded, lowering her head. “Yes sir.” With this, she went right to work, keeping silent hope that perhaps later, she might be able to meet the members of the one band she had offered to work this concert for. Sadly, she happened to be quite the fan of Panic! At the Disco. Unfortunately, there was no chance in Hell that she'd ever be known by any of them. People like them hardly heeded attention to misfits like her. She sighed, and tore her gaze away from the buses in proximity. After all, she had her responsibilities in this job, yes?
Time passed, and the concert had been well underway. Though, unfortunately, Catrianna had been called into the back of the stage when her favorite band had come onto the stage. “Sinclair! One of the technical staff called in. We need someone to go up there to change this light. As you seem to not be doing much now, I'd like you go do this.” Cat scowled at the head of security, a righteous bastard he was. He took much pleasure in giving her hassles in this job, though it was the love of music that kept her doing this. She reached for the ladder and had started to climb up to change the light.
Meanwhile...
The band known as Panic! At the Disco had arrived at Reading for a music festival. This was supposed to end on an early note. After this, the band members were to be whisked off to their next destination. Backstage, Ryan Ross, the lyricist and guitarist of the band had been conducting a sound test of his guitar. He was heavily immersed in fine-tuning it when his band mate and bassist Jon Walker had crept behind him, nearly causing him to jump out of his skin. “What the hell?” he suddenly snapped, though he stopped shortly, shaking his head. “Sorry man,” he muttered as he finished tuning his guitar. Jon shook his head, starting to work on his own instrument. “Wow Ry, high-strung much?” The guitarist shook his head. “Where's the rest?” Jon shrugged at this. “Spence is getting ready, and Brendon's already in warm-ups. How much do you have left to do?” Ryan shrugged, placing his guitar on its stand. “I'm all set. I'm about to go to makeup. Not doing too entirely much tonight Just the basics. So, you about done there?” Jon shrugged, continuing to work on the Bass tuning. “Yeah, about done.” Ryan shrugged indifferently. “Hey man, you alright?” Ryan's head jerked up as he was still getting over a lot of stuff that had happened this past summer. “I'm here aren't I? I think I'm going to see what else needs to be done.” With this, Ryan had then turned, heading back towards the bus where he could hear the singer's dulcet tones from outside. “Save it for the stage,” he commented as he made his way towards the mirror so he could apply the makeup. The vocalist, Brendon Urie, shook his head at this notion. “Is Ry off his meds today?” Ryan rolled his eyes. “Now that was dumb.” Brendon shrugged as he started to button up his shirt. “You need to stop being so high strung. It'll kill you in the end.” Ryan shrugged as he continued with the eyeliner. “I'll keep that in mind.” Before much could be said, the four band mates were ushered onto the stage. Like every other time they had done it in the tour, the band had started to play the introduction, which was designated to go into the first song.
Right as Ryan had transferred chords to the actual song, he saw something going towards him. Stepping to the side, he heard the clatter of a bottle. Man, what the hell was that about? He glanced at the drummer, Spencer Smith, who merely shrugged before he turned his attention towards the bassist who had also just dodged one. Though, as artists, each of the four musicians knew that they were to keep playing. Meanwhile, Brendon went on singing. Then... Bam! Mid-word, there was complete silence. Eventually, Ryan caught on that there was no voice singing, so he stopped playing. When he turned, he saw that there was a crowd forming around the fallen singer. Ry pushed himself through the crowd. “Spence! What the hell happened?” The drummer shrugged as he nodded towards the still unconscious Brenden. “God Ry, look over his eye. That bottle nailed him!” Ryan's eyes narrowed as people were struggling to get him to regain consciousness. “What kind of a moron would do that?” he snapped irritably. “Uh oh, Ry's mad,” Jon said as he crept behind them to get a glimpse at Brendon. “Though, I agree. No one had to do that.” Ryan shook his head as some minutes seemed to tick. “Forget it,” he muttered outloud as he handed his guitar to one of the technical staff on the stage. He then stalked off the stage, hardly seeing that there was a girl on a ladder ahead. He bumped against the ladder accidentially.
Meanwhile...
Cat had successfully changed the light and was about to climb down when she felt the wobbling of the ladder. Always being bad with heights, it was to no surprise that she let out a scream as she fell. Pop! She rolled her ankle in landing, and now just sat there in a daze. What the hell had happened? Ryan cursed under his breath as he realized what had happened. He had knocked a girl off the ladder. Quickly, he knelt by her to check how she had endured the fall. “Ry, you dumbass!” he hissed. At the sound of the name 'Ry' Catrianna quickly looked up to find herself face to face with her all-time favorite musician. “Can you get me some ice? The first aid kit is right behind you.” Great Cat, smooth intro right there. Ryan shook his head to clear the daze and then agreed, bringing the ice pack towards her. “What did you hit-” Ryan's voice trailed off as he saw an ankle starting to turn rather purple which was really starting to swell. “Ow,” he whispered, tenderly pressing ice against the ankle. “I've felt worse,” Cat replied automatically, referring to past experiences. “You're Ryan Ross from Panic! At the Disco, are you not? Aren't you supposed to be onstage?” Ryan shrugged indifferently. “Some idiot knocked out our vocalist. I'm here until I know he's waking up.” Cat nodded, trying to keep the small talk going, though it was growing awkward by the minute. Blimey, Mum was gonna kill her when she saw this. As she opened her mouth to speak again, another girl rushed backstage.
“Ryan! There you are! They think he's about to stir- what happened here?” Ryan raised an eyebrow. “Becca,” he greeted as he then returned his gaze to the injured girl. “I don't know much, but I think you really should see someone about this..” his voice trailed off as he then went to answer Becca. “We sort of ran into each other. Well, I sort of ran into her.” He pointed at the fallen ladder, and the girl named Becca clicked her tongue. “Ry, you are too clumsy for your own good. Here, I'll deal with her for now. The crowd looks irate, you should really go back there.” Ryan looked back at Cat apologetically. “If you stick around, I'll personally take you to the emergency room.” With this offer standing, he got to his feet and back to the stage area, where the vocalist had indeed regained consciousness.
Cat could hear him challenging the crowd from where she sat and she shook his head. “Watch another bottle hit him.” The girl that was knelt by her giggled, though held out her right hand in introduction. “Rebbecca Wentz, it's a pleasure to meet you.” Cat's eyes widened as she picked up on the last name. “Are you related to-” She was interrupted yet again. This was growing to be quite a habit now. “Peter Wentz is my brother. I enjoy to see my boys in action from time to time. I just happened to be able to escape home to see this concert.” Cat smiled as she then introduced herself. “Catrianna Sinclair. Though, blimey, it must be brilliant to live in an environment with all that artistic splendor.” Becca laughed as she then nodded knowingly. “Artistic is one way to put it.” She paused before an idea hit her. “Here, let me help you up. I believe there's a chair with a decent view. And yes, I shall laugh if another bottle hits him. Sometimes I really wonder about that Brendon.” Cat smiled shyly, perhaps being a bit starstruck at this given moment. Eventually, she snapped out of that daze and allowed herself to be helped up. “Are you in much pain?” Becca asked with the utmost of concern. Really, that Ryan could be so clumsy. “Believe me, I have really felt worse.” The girl laughed as the two had made it to that seat where she sat down. Together, they watched the rest of the concert. The girl named Becca noticed this certain starry-eyed expression to this girl as she stared at Ryan. Ah, there was always the typical fan girl. Though, this one wasn't all too unbearable.
When the concert ended, the boys made their way backstage. Spencer let out a low whistle as he caught sight of the ankle. “Jesus Ry! Did you bludgeon her with the ladder?” Ryan shot his childhood friend a look before he then turned his attention towards Cat. “We can take you to the Emergency Room via the tour bus. Are you alright with that?” Behind Ryan, Brendon made a suggestive wraggle of his eyebrows beneath the ice pack that he wore over his injury. Jon shook his head, knowing that Brendon had been indicating towards Ryan and this girl. Though, she was just a random chick. When all had gotten on the bus, Brendon took a seat at the kitchen table, holding the ice pack to his head. “Damn... Headache,” he muttered with a shrug. Jon raised an eyebrow at this. “Yeah... Bottles generally can cause headaches. Nice one though, challenging them to throw more.” Brendon shook his head. “I was making a statement.” Ryan rolled his eyes as he sat by the girl as all were en route to the emergency room. “We're just about there, how are you holding up?” Becca raised an eyebrow and thwapped Ryan over the head. “Ow, what was that for?” The girl sighed in exasperation. “For not paying attention to your surroundings.” Ryan opened his mouth to speak, but they had reached the ER by then.
It had turned out that Catrianna had sustained a severe sprain. Though, as she was there, the doctor had frowned, staring at her record. “It says here that you have taken quite the dosages of pain medications in the past. Now, this concerns me about prescribing you anything for your ankle.” Cat shook her head fervently. “No need, I can manage without it, thanks.” She smiled, though Ryan looked all dumbstruck at her simple brushoff of the medication. “Just what have you taken in the past?” Cat shrugged. “Oh just a few medications here and there, nothing to worry about.” True, the amount of pain medication she had could feed a small army, but that story was rather irrelevant in this case.
By the time they had all left the ER, it was rather late. Brendon had fallen fast asleep with whatever they had given him to curb the pain for his own injury. Becca and Spencer was on their computers, and Jon was on the phone with someone. Ryan, on the other hand, had already offered his bed to Cat, agreeing to sleep on the couch. He felt like this was the least he could do after what had happened. So right know, Ryan had sat at the edge of the bed, staring at the girl whose ankle was propped up. The expression she had was almost sad. “Hey, you alright?” She smiled to herself as she then nodded. “I suppose.” Ryan nodded, relieved to hear this. “Good to know. So, security guard huh?” Cat shrugged. “I can be around music, so I like it. The supervisor is a total bastard of a man, but I'm positive that I survive. Though this job, it drives my mum mental. She believes I ought to start acting like the upper-crust British young lady that I am.” Ryan raised an eyebrow. “Upper-Crust British huh?” Cat shrugged indifferently. “Unfortunately.”
The conversation seemed to go on for hours. In the midst of it all, both Cat and Ryan had exchanged MSN emails. Apparently the two had fairly good conversation, though Cat was still quite apprehensive of this email. It was possibly a fake, though she did not make a fuss of it. Ryan, on the other hands thought differently. This girl was not bad at all. Somehow, he was determined to make up for this little spill. Perhaps making a new friend out of it wasn't too entirely bad. Something in the back of his mind lingered as he started to fall asleep. She was good looking to boot.
A/N: Tis the intro, more to come... R & R if you will :) That way I know if I should continue...
