He works to damn much. That single thought ran through my head as I clumped down the stairs. Here I was guesting in his house, it's only three in the morning, on a Saturday no less, and Yoshiki was downstairs pounding away on his damned piano.
I stopped at the foot of the stairs to stare. Yoshiki was shirtless as always, but he wasn't wearing pants either. They were boxer briefs I think, but I was more concerned that Yoshiki was crying against the piano, his hands never stuttering on the music. He was playing a Violet UK song. I think it was classified as Violet UK.
I can't live without
I can't live without
I can't live without you
Here in the dark
The song was too damn sad for me. I loved hide too, but this, was too much. I walked up behind him and rested my hands n top of his silencing the sorrowful music. The only thing breaking the silence now was Yoshiki's unsteady breathing.
"Yoshiki," I said, "It's early yet and you haven't really slept yet."
"I can't sleep." Yoshiki replied to me. "I see him in my dreams... I can't bear to see him..."
I momentarily rested against Yoshiki before gently pulling him to his feet. "You still need rest."
"Leave me be. I'm not tired." Yoshiki tried for and angry authoritative voice, but it was frail and still shaking from tears.
"You're not a very good liar." I told him. "Come on."
I lead him up the stairs and into his room. He hesitated in the doorway. "I can't." It was a whisper.
Sighing, a little aggravated with the older man, I not so gently pushed him onto the bed. "You're going to bed. I will not be held accountable if you pass out from exhaustion."
Yoshiki just sat in the middle of the bed his knees tucked up to his chin. I was exhausted; I didn't feel like dealing with this. I was his band mate damned it, not his babysitter.
"Fine." I huffed, "Look I'll sleep in here with you if you want. To chase the dreams away."
Yoshiki looked at me pitifully and kind of hopefully. "Would you?" His voice was barely a whisper.
To think this was a grown man. I must be overly tired to think so poorly of him. He must be overly tired to allow me to see him in his moment of weakness. Well, moments, of weakness.
"Sure." I climbed on to the bed next to him and lay down. He hesitated another moment, and then laid next to me. He didn't touch or curl against me as I thought he would do, just faced me and closed his eyes. I watched him for a moment to make sure he wasn't getting up and to make sure he was really asleep, before I let sleep claim me too.
I woke to a whimpering noise. The non-existent light from the curtains tells me the sun isn't up yet. Yoshiki had turned away from me some time earlier because I was staring at his naked back. I stand corrected his naked, shaking back and he whimpered again. I am so glad I am not haunted the way he seems to be.
I scooted over to him and pulled him close to me wrapping an arm around him. "Yoshiki." I murmured softly in his ear. I've never seen the man wake and really don't want a black eye for my efforts.
"I don't want to see you..." He murmured barely audible. "Go away."
"Yoshiki." I said it directly into his ear this time. Even squeezed my arm that was wrapped around him for reinforcement. I didn't want to shake him. Shaking could have bad consequences and I didn't want to give him a heart attack either. Sighing I climb over him and faced him.
His face was contorted in what looked like pain and his hands were fisted against his collarbone. He looked to be collapsing into himself. I put my arms around him and pulled him into a tight hug.
"Yoshiki." I said in a normal voice and put my nose against his. At least this way he wouldn't be able to break it if he swung out. If he could even swing out against my hug.
His eyes blinked slowly. Recognition didn't come fast enough for my liking. He didn't struggle against me just moved his face to rest against my shoulder instead of nose to nose.
"Are you alright?" I asked.
He only nodded. "It comes and goes."
I made the mistake to look down as he looked up and our mouths crossed. Nothing extreme just his lips against mine. He didn't jerk away in disgust but didn't move, and I (to my shame) only closed my eyes and waited for one of his famous temper tantrums.
"Would you help me forget?" He asked against my mouth. "Will you give me something else to remember?"
I did jerk away then. "Is that why you asked me to stay with you instead of getting a hotel? For some easy sex?"
He flinched at my words. "I'm sorry for offending you."
I got up out of the bed. His words stirred something I didn't want to be touch. I didn't want the band to fall apart because of me, because of a moment of weakness on both our parts. I didn't say anything to him. I just left the room, threw some clothes on, left the house.
It was well past midnight when I returned to the house very drunk. Well okay, drunk enough to fell invincible and reckless. After all I didn't have a hotel room, where else was I suppose to go?
Yoshiki wasn't on the piano this time. He had a rather old looking guitar in his lap. He didn't even look up when I entered the room. Didn't stop strumming whatever it was he was playing. I waited for him to rage, for him to demand to know where I went. After all this wasn't my city anything could have happened to me. He didn't.
"I'm glad you're okay." He said simply. "Did you eat or would you like me to reheat dinner?"
He did cook. He despised servants and only had a cleaning service out to the house once a week to do the basics, dusting, vacuuming, and laundry. I've seen him do his own dishes. It was startling the first time I saw it, but back to the present moment.
"Why don't you ask me where I've been?" I demanded.
"If you wanted me to know you would tell me." He replied simply never looking up from the guitar. "Did you want the guest room still or would you like me to check you into a hotel?"
He was so calm and with the alcohol in me it was infuriating. "Yell at me damn it! Curse at me for being out so late!"
He looked up then and studied me for a moment. "You're drunk?"
"Not yet." I answered.
"I see." He smiled. A smile I will never forget. A true, really Yoshiki smile that the world has seen few of. Fewer still after hide died.
"What are you smiling for?" I was angry and stomped up to him like an petulant child really.
"One moment." He set the guitar on the guitar stand next to the sofa. Once it was safely removed from our vicinity he turned back to me. "You were saying?"
Due to the alcohol and my temper my mind goes a little fuzzy here. I think I put my hands in my hair and moved to yank it out. Yoshiki being the shortest of the band obviously could not reach my hands to stop the motion, so he pushed me down. On that damn marble floor of his. I didn't hit my head miraculously but my ass was smarting some from the fall.
"What the fuck?!" Was my response and I tackled him. He was laughing and I'm not sure why, but he was laughing as I tackled him. I had him pinned down straddling his legs and holding his arms above his head.
"You need some sleep." He said seriously.
"Look who's talking." I retorted. "I think I'll do something else." I blame the alcohol for the reckless moment. If you ask me to this day, I blame the alcohol.
I closed my mouth down on his and kissed him like there was no tomorrow. He moaned against my mouth and when he did I stuck my tongue in his to taste all of him, and the steak he ate for dinner it seems. I switched his hands to my left hand and moved my right hand down his body exploring. He yanked on his hands to get free as I pinched his nipple and made him arch.
My head spun suddenly and I pulled away for air. He must have seen something on my face.
Yoshiki's face turned into panic. "You better not. I mean it."
Obviously he had been playing with me because he jerked free, was up and back with a wastebasket just as I started vomiting the alcohol. When I was done, he lifted weak, shaky sad self up off the floor and upstairs into bed.
Before I passed out I figured out why he had been laughing at me. The ass knew that I was going to end my night vomiting. I guess that's what comes from being old. That sort of knowledge.
"Get some sleep." I heard him say as I drifted out. "And be ready to work tomorrow."
Fuck. My last thought as I passed out.
The morning was hell. My head was hell, and the worst, I vaguely recall the night before. Yoshiki was in my room at five am.
He didn't say a word. Just yanked the covers off and grabbed me and rolled me out of bed and onto the floor. I hit the floor with a thunk and before I could curse him, he was out the room.
Today was fucking Sunday. I thought to myself as I showered. What work would he possibly want to do?
When I went downstairs, Yoshiki had breakfast made and waiting.
"What are we doing today?" I asked him, "The other band members aren't even here yet for practice."
"You are doing charity work today." He answered smiling. "Down at the Children's Hospital."
I couldn't even protest that. It was for a good cause. Even though I've never had much experience with children outside of family.
"The car will take you and the car will pick you up. I'll have dinner cooked by the time you get back. The cleaning people are coming today and I don't like them in the house alone or I would go with you."
I only nodded as I had my mouth full. It was completely understandable though his reasoning. Especially if, some fan girl snuck in with the cleaning crew.
He walked me to the door and as I was making to leave grabbed my hand. I looked down n him questionably and he toed up and kissed me softly.
"If you want we can finish this tonight too." He released my hand and closed the door in my dumbfounded face. Yoshiki always has managed to get the last word.
AN: It's late and I can't think anymore. I'll think and type the rest up later.
