“Let’s play!” Bam pounced on the couch where Ville was laid up, reading a book. He jumped a mile when his lover’s voice broke his reverie.
“Play?” he repeated. “Play what? Don’t you want to sit with me?” he really wanted to read. He’d finally managed to get a hold of this book, and it was so thrilling, he didn’t think he could bear to put it down.
“No. I want to play.” Bam insisted. Ville groaned. He reached over and picked up his bookmark. He lovingly set the book down on the table, gazing at it longingly. Why was it that Bam always needed his attention the most when he was enjoying some alone time?
It wasn’t even alone time, really. It was quiet time. Sometimes life at the Castle just got too loud, too busy. Ville needed time to settle down, to let silence surround him, to have all the activity die down. He needed a little peace.
His lover didn’t seem to be able to do that. He always had to be moving, making noise, doing something. It was like he was afraid to be still. What was it he was afraid of? His thoughts? Ville mused on this as Bam pulled him up off the couch.
“What do you want to play?” he resigned himself to at least making this somewhat fun.
“Tony Hawk: Underground!” Bam said eagerly. Ville rolled his eyes as the American set up the system. Why in the world would this boy want to play a video game that had to do with his profession?
It would be like him singing that one karaoke game. He went to work and sang all day, it wasn’t how he wanted to relax.
They sat on the floor, legs folded pretzel style, buttons clicking as their thumbs pressed them furiously. Bam was winning, as per usual. He gloated and stuck his tongue out at Ville.
The rock star narrowed his glittering eyes and bent over his controller a little bit more. Suddenly, he was winning! Winning at this game! He never won, at least, not against Bam. Once or twice he’d managed to best April, but even he could admit that was probably just luck.
“Ha!” he cried aloud, joyful that for once he might actually win. Bam scowled and, quick as lightning, bent forward and pressed the power button the game system.
“Oops,” he grinned.
“Bam!” Ville tossed down his controlled and crossed his arms over his chest. “I don’t want to play with you if you’re going to cheat.”
“It’s not cheating, it’s creative strategy.” The skater disagreed.
“I’m not going to play anymore.” Ville stood up. Bam, panicking, reached out and grabbed his hand.
“No! Please, Willa? You can even pick the next game.”
“Well,” he waved. And then, one look into those sapphire eyes and he was lost. “Fine. We’re playing Pirates’ Life!”
“Oooh,” Bam groaned. This was the only game that Ville really loved playing. It was a Pirates of the Caribbean version of the game. Instead of normal things, you did… pirate-y things.
Bam hated this game with a passion. He wasn’t interested in rolling dice, unless doing so got him drinks or real money. Sometimes he got so sick of playing with paper money.
But luck seemed to be with Bam. He kept getting the best cards, landing on the best squares, winning all the raids. Ville looked at him suspiciously. He had to be cheating. Was he? He was must have been!
Once they retired, Bam had a good ten thousand dollars more than his lover. Ville pouted.
“You cheated again.” He accused.
“I did not! Why are you so paranoid?”
“Because you always cheat! You always have to win.” Ville sulked. Bam sighed. His boyfriend was right. He normally did just about anything he could so he would win.
Ville got up off the floor, leaving the board out for Bam to pick up. He stalked off towards the couch. He flopped down and stuck his nose back in the book. He was about four feet away from his boyfriend, so this whole storming off thing didn’t work as well as it could have.
Sighing, the skater put away all the pieces. He put the game away and then went to hover by the couch. Ville did not acknowledge his presence, but he did flip his page with a wounded air.
The singer made an indignant noise when he was book was taken from his hands. The bookmark was set in place and the volume was placed on the coffee table. He stiffed as the skater lay down on top of him, winding his arms around the slender waist.
“Don’t be mad,” Bam nuzzled his neck. Ville sighed and cupped the back of the head. At least now he was finally getting some quiet time. They were silent for a few seconds.
“You’ve won at something.”
“What’s that?” Ville was amused. He knew that Bam was going to try and say anything he could to make him feel better.
“You won me.”
“Was there ever a contest?” Ville kissed the top of his head.
“No,” Bam murmured. “You’ve always had me.”
