Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. I do not know Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Um there's not really much to say about the story really, I'll just point out now that the prologue is taking place in present time and the chapters that follow will be in the past, things leading up to where the prologue is. So I guess with that said there isn't anything else left to say really...I hope that you enjoy.
Adjusting her arm more comfortably around the small frame of the Oklahoma native, Kelly slowly drew the girl in her arms closer against her side. Carrie smiled into the crook of the other girl’s neck and easily allowed her body to slide more into the short Texan’s as she was guided to.
“I’m going to miss this.” She admitted in a bare whisper, her eyes gazing upward towards the blanketed starry sky.
Kelly shifted her head to the side until her chin was resting on top of the blonde’s beneath her. “So am I.” She returned just as softly.
She heard the girl’s soft sigh from above that followed her last words and finally, after what seemed like forever, she lifted her head up from Kelly’s neck and glanced down at her.
“What if I just went with you?”
Kelly’s eyes had been lost wandering overhead at the stars until that question left Carrie’s lips. Casually she pushed up into a sitting position against the windshield of her car, pulling Carrie up with her.
She offered a sweet smile as she cupped the other girls chin in her hands. “I could never ask you to do that, Care.”
Taking hold of Kelly’s wrists Carrie returned the gentle smile she had just received and leaned forward, resting her forehead against Kelly’s.
“You know you wouldn’t have to, I’d just come.”
Kelly nodded and drew her forehead back so that she could look into the beautiful hazel orbs in front of her. “I know, and I love you so much for that, but you’re going to College and that’s that.”
Carrie frowned. “Why is it okay for you not to go to College, but I have to.”
Kelly laughed and lowered her hands from Carrie’s chin. “Because you’re you and I’m me, College was never going to be my thing…ever. Come,” She requested while sliding off the hood of her Mustang and offering a hand out for Carrie to take.
Willingly Carrie placed her hand into the shorter girls and allowed her to assist her off of the car. “That makes no sense by the way…the whole you’re you and I’m me thing—“
“You’re blonde; I didn’t expect it to make sense to you.” She laughed as she ducked to the side to avoid the playful smack Carrie attempted to give her.
She glared at her. “You’re going to get enough of those blonde jokes one day.”
Kelly shot her a playful smirk. “But until that day I’m going to enjoy every last minute of giving you a hard time. Now,” She paused and placed her hands on Carrie’s shoulders causing the girl to halt in the center of the road. Carrie watched on curiously as Kelly brought her eyebrows together in concentration and adjusted her body so that they were face to face before taking a step back.
“There.”
Carrie blinked. “There what?” Was she missing something?
“Our solution.”
Carrie blinked again and shrugged her shoulders. “I am so lost right now. How is us standing in the middle of a dark road a solution, and a solution to what?”
“Look where you’re standing.”
Carrie drew her eyebrows together in confusion and listened to the shorter girl as she glanced around at their surroundings. “Yeah, I’m looking and I’m still not understanding.”
Kelly chuckled and pointed up at a sign off to the side of the road. Carrie followed her finger with her eyes and then glanced back over at the Texan.
“Okay…the Oklahoma-Texas line…are you trying to get rid of me earlier or something?”
“What? No, of course not silly, I had an idea.”
Carrie lifted a brow. “I’m almost scared to ask what it is…”
“We should get tattoos.”
It was Carrie’s turn to laugh. “What? Yeah, you’re officially crazy.”
“No, I’m serious. I could get Texas tattooed on me and you could get Oklahoma on you!” She exclaimed, her eyes lighting up.
Carrie held back the laugh she wanted to let out, but not because anything was funny, but because the thought of Kelly actually being serious right now made her nervous. She knew all too well that once the girl got an idea in her head she didn’t let go of it.
“And how exactly is that a solution, babe?”
Kelly rolled her eyes. “If we got it done, every time you looked at yours you’d think of me and I of you and we’d remember this,” she pointed to the sign again and then motioned between the two of them, “this moment…us…and the amazing year we’ve spent together and when we saw each other again—“
“We’d be crossing the line and coming back to each other?” Carrie offered, hoping she was finally at least on the same page as Kelly now, because before, they weren’t even in the same book.
Kelly clapped her hands together happily. “You got it!” She shouted, pulling Carrie into a tight hug.
She released her from her grasp and held her gently by the shoulders. “So what do you say?”
“I’m pretty sure my parent’s would kill me.”
“Oh, they would not.” Kelly paused and laugh, “Actually, now that you mention that I don’t think I’d completely put it passed them, but who cares. You’re eighteen now and heading off to College soon, they can’t stop you.”
Carrie smiled and sucked her bottom lip in between her teeth.
“Aw you’re nervous, that’s what this is about really, not your parent’s. That’s so cute, Bear.” She pulled the girl in for another hug and kissed her on the cheek.
“You don’t have to do it if you don’t wanna…it was just a crazy thought of mine, you know how I am with my thoughts.”
Carrie nodded and laughed. “Yeah, I do, and I’m not knocking your idea, I’m just not giving you a firm yes right now on that.”
“But you’re not giving a firm no either.” Kelly pointed out.
“No, I’m not giving a firm no either.”
“Score!” She clapped her hands together again triumphantly.
Carrie shook her head at her and started making her way back towards the car. “What am I going to do with you?”
Kelly came up behind her and wrapped her arms around her waist. “Oh, I can think of a few things.” She said teasingly.
Carrie turned slowly to face her, a grin plastered across her face. “Oh, really now?”
“Yes, really, and if you hop inside of my car I can show you.” She replied with a wink.
Carrie laughed. “God, you’re so romantic.”
