”NO! BRIAN, NO!”
The words bounced trough what seemed to be the whole city. All the animals and all the people stopped. The dogs looked around in confusion, could feel the fright from the people that now had raised their heads. The fading sunlight was weak, and the sky had fallen into a dark purple blue colour. The even darker shadow that stood out from the sky seemed to grow bigger. It was something falling. Someone falling. Brian falling. Women screamed. But it was already too late. Brian was falling to death. My Brian.
I’m Billie. Or Billie Joe, if you like. I’m Brian’s husband. We met in school, I was new in town, and country as well. My family and I moved to Paris after my father’s death, and yeah, I met Brian. I remember that. It was a math class, but I can’t remember anything else than Brian. His blue blue eyes and black hair, together with the shirt and a nice pair of red pants. I was speechless. Brian was stunning, and he stared at me with his beautiful, sparkling blue eyes. The black-dyed hair that looked so good with the dark makeup that framed his eyes. He was a pure beauty. And after some hours, on the way home, he stopped and looked at me. Two seconds later, my first kiss ever was his. His lips were so soft and nice, I loved them at once. And I loved Brian as well, ever since.
And now, he was soon dead. My Brian. My husband.
I stood a bit away from the house. Around 20 meters perhaps. Not a sound came from my lips. Not when he fell. Not when he hit the ground. My Brian was gone forever. My life was over.
The police told me it was suicide. There were no clues at all that it would be murder. Sure, I was happy that no-one had wanted to kill my love. But at the meantime, that meant Brian had killed himself. Why would he? I thought he loved me? I used to tell him that he was my world, that I could survive anything if I had him. That I would never leave him. He said he wouldn’t, too. And he had. What had I done wrong?
That night, when I finally came home, I fell down on our bed and became quiet. Our bed. It wasn’t ours anymore. It was mine. Brian didn’t live anymore. My love was dead. And I didn’t know why. As I changed to my side, I heard something rustle. I lifted my pillow, and there was an envelope. The only thing it said was my name. I saw whose hand-writhing it was instantly. My Brian’s. With shaky hands I pulled it to me and looked at it. Was this his goodbye? I got up the envelope and a single arc fell out on the bed. A letter.
"Billie Joe,
I know that I’m not with you when you read this. At least I hope so. You would be so angry. I am angry on myself. I promised to never let you down. And sure as hell, I do. You would never understand why I am doing this. I need to honey. I need to. You don’t have to worry about me. I will have it good in heaven. Who knows, maybe I’ll meet your dad? In any case, Billie, I love you. I wouldn’t be able to live anymore, this was just the top of everything and I can’t stand it anymore. But I love you. So much. I will never stop loving you. You are my soul mate. We’ll meet in heaven, when you come here.
And don’t you dare killing yourself. I know you will be very sad and don’t understand, don’t try too. But keep it up. You find someone else, Billie. Someone who can give you that love I tried to give you. And the children. Take care of them. Tell them that daddy loves them, ‘cause I do. Fleur will be beauty queen, and Jack will be the son I know you dreamed of. Don’t be sad my love. When it’s time, you will follow me into the dark, and I’ll be here, waiting for you.
You are the moonlight in my life, every night.
Good Bye.
Brian."
I read it time after time. I couldn’t believe this. Why? He didn’t tell me that. I trusted him so much, that I guessed I didn’t want to know.
I rose from the bed and got out on the balcony. It had become dark outside, and a big moon lighted up the sky. “You are the moonlight in my life too Brian… And will always be…” I whispered. Almost like a sign, a star fell in the dark. I was sure that it was Brian. Brian that said goodbye to me, as he fell. I smiled a little.
“I love you too… Good bye.”
