Disclaimer: Though I wish I did, I do not own or know Ryan Buell or any of the Penn State Paranormal Research Society. This is a completely made up story. Not real. At all. I don't make any money from anything I write about the previously mentioned. |
Please rate this story using the "+" drop down box at the end. I'll write for myself until the end of time, but it's nice to know if others feel that sweet, warm, honey drip as well.
Well, then... let's get sticky, shall we?
(for the female character in this story, my mental picture mixed and bounced from The Mentalist's Grace Van Pelt, the character of Irene Adler played by Rachel McAdams from Sherlock Holmes (2009) and the sultry physique of the classic pin up girl. I, of course, own none of these characters, nor do I profit by using their likeness in this description.)
CHAPTER 1
Ryan drove through the secluded area, wondering what the hell he'd gotten himself into. He knew that working alone wasn't a good idea, but lately he'd felt so crowded and a bit overwhelmed by the constant activity around him. Granted, no one forced Ryan to go on TV or live in a somewhat public arena, but even so, once in a while, he felt the need to get lost and ground himself. He honestly thought this case was going to be another crazycakes cat lady in the middle of nowhere, rambling at manic speed about a feeling she gets whenever she checks her fuse box in the basement. Ryan received many requests for investigations into these types of "cases" and thought that, pragmatically, dragging an entire team of investigators with him was a waste of time and a drain on his own psyche. That was something no one needed.
Ryan had long ago given up on cell phone reception and was about to reread the directions for the 7th time when he spotted a cluster of trees in the distance. Something reflected a glint of light back at him and as Ryan studied where the source could be, he realized it was a window... on a house.
"Hallelujah!" he shouted as he put the car in gear and drove towards the hidden residence.
Ryan pulled up to the house, surprised by how well-maintained a hidden house in the middle of nowhere can be. Getting out of his car and still wondering about the house's appearance, Ryan was met with his second surprise in 15 minutes; crazycakes cat lady, she was not.
The woman that walked through the front door was a lady he would give the 'once over' twice in any setting, but especially here... she seemed out of place. It looked like she was more suited to the side of a WW II plane. In her late 20's or early 30's, she had thick, long, deep red hair, bright and unnatural but fitting all the same. Her skin was fair, not sickly, but a natural alabaster tone that obviously hadn't been exposed to rough elements yet had a soft pink glow in her cheeks. Her green eyes were cautiously looking over the man she walked towards and Ryan understood why; anyone would be guarded this far from town. She wore a white cotton sundress that showed her curves, though Ryan couldn't help but notice that nothing less than a burka would hide them. A soft blue knit blanket served as a shawl, loosely draped over her shoulders, the edges gathered tightly in her hands, revealing her anxiety.
'Un..ex..pected,' he thought as he brought himself back to the task at hand. Since "Paranormal State" aired, Ryan had met many gorgeous women and he was not immobilized by their appearance. The handy part of being cascaded with unexplainable phenomena was that Ryan had the ability to appear unphased by shocking events... and people. Little Miss Pin Up here wasn't the first to rattle him and wouldn't be the last. He had more pressing matter to attend to than fawning over an attractive recluse. The woman approached Ryan and extended her hand with an uneasy smile.
“You must be Ryan. I'm Danielle Seiver. Dani. Thank you for coming all this way.”
Ryan shook Dani's hand gingerly. “Nice to meet you, Dani. I'm sorry about being late. I must have gotten turned around during the drive here.”
“Don't give it a second thought,” she said with a small wave of her hand. “I would have been stunned if you arrived without trouble. The best part of being out here is frequently the worst part.”
Ryan smiled politely then followed Dani to the house.
*******************
Ryan laid in the guest room, staring up at the ceiling in the dark. Dani should be sleeping and his laptop would notify him if there was any type of activity at all.
Nothing yet.
Ryan couldn't shake the feeling that this place gave him. It was a foggy type of intoxication, almost, like he was far away from reality and could do whatever he pleased. It wasn't a bad feeling, but it WAS unusual. Ryan's thoughts usually were like bricks on his chest when he tried to sleep. Right now, he felt... good. He felt buzzed and was quickly losing his interest in this research, this case, everything.
Well, everything except for the very fuckable girl a few rooms over.
'What the fuck?!' Ryan sat straight up in bed. 'I never use words like "fuckable"- what the hell is going on here?' Ryan pulled on a t-shirt and walked to the door. He stopped for a second, considering what he should do. With no sign of activity, Ryan still felt he was under some paranormal influence. Should he attempt to do anything right now?
Before he was able to decide, Ryan heard footsteps in the hall, barefoot and slow.
Then Dani's voice floated through the air slowly like intoxicating music. "Ryan? Ryyyyyyyyan? It's me silly. Can I come in?"
Ryan exhaled and there was a very quiet voice in his mind screaming distantly 'No! No!!! Don't open the door!'
That voice was not registering in his mind because of the much louder voice telling Ryan, 'Of course she can come in. She can do about anything right now if she keeps talking like that.'
Ryan opened the door and saw Dani standing in the hall, wearing a thin cotton t-shirt (mercilessly) without a bra and boy short panties. Even in his current state, Ryan saw something in Dani's eyes that told him this was not the same Dani he met earlier. She seemed to practically radiate heat and her green eyes looked brighter, almost like a fiery jade. Her skin seemed to be illuminated, her hair deep and blazing red. She took one step towards Ryan.
"Dani," Ryan said, struggling hard to clear his head, "this isn't you. You need to fight it."
She took another step. "On the contrary...Mr. Buell.... THIS is what happens... when you 'fight it'," Dani said slow and soft, her full lips forming each word obscenely as she took a final step, now toe-to-toe with Ryan. He could feel the hotness of her fevered skin. He knew he was losing his tenuous grasp on his own self-control.
"RYAN!"
Ryan gasped as he startled awake. The sheets on the bed were damp and Ryan's heart was pounding. Dani knocked hard on the door again.
"Ryan! Ryan? Are you okay?"
He collected himself then opened the door.
"Hey. What's going on, Dani?" Ryan attempted (poorly) to feign a casual tone. Dani looked at him with a slightly bewildered expression.
"Um, I heard you kind of talking to someone and making some weird sounds. I just wanted to see if you're okay."
"Yeah... oh, yeah, yeah, I'm fine."
"Ooooookay. Well... I'm going to make some breakfast, so..." her voice trailed off as she slowly turned and walked down the hall. Ryan closed the door and squeezed his eyes shut as he hit his head against the door frame.
-------------------------------------------------
Ryan and Dani busied themselves in separate areas of the house all day. Ryan took innumerable EMF readings. Every so often, Ryan would spot Dani, and his thoughts were getting further and further from investigating.
'I could walk up behind her right now. She wouldn't know until I grabbed her. I'm sure she wants it just as much as I do. I want a taste of her.'
Ryan snapped himself out of whatever daze he was in. This wasn't like him. He didn't do things like that. 'Not yet,' popped into his head.
"Jesus!" Ryan said out loud as he shook his head and forced himself to walk in the opposite direction.
