The trouble with unfaithful lovers
Billie sighed as David led her from the party and to the car park where his car was parked. He had offered to give her a lift home. When they were settled in the car, and had waved Chris and Kate off with a promise from Chris and Kate to ring her tomorrow afternoon. David started the car and pulled out of the huge car park.
Billie felt tears fill her eyes yet again. She asked pleadingly “David would you please stay with me tonight, I don’t want to be alone right now?”
David sighed and replied “Yeah sure, to be truthful I don’t fancy being on my own right now either. I can’t get the image of those two cheating on us out of my mind, it’s driving me nuts.”
He pulled out of the car park; he then turned left and straight on a head. He revealed as he drove “I had planned to ask Sophia to marry me tonight when we got back to my place. Obviously that is never going to happen now.”
Billie turned to David and shot him a looked of regret and sympathy and asked “Oh David, was that the engagement ring you had planned on giving her, that you ended up throwing at Orlando?” David nodded and replied “Yes it was.”
He added sadly “I had planned to ask her to marry me after the party had ended. I had even planned to take her to my home town to tell my parents the news if she had accepted.” He suddenly laughed a bitter and sharp sound. “Oh shit” he exclaimed.
Billie eyed him worriedly, thinking he was finally cracking, that tonight’s events finally having sunk in and caught up with him. David must have noticed her expression out of the corner of his eye, and immediately explained what had just hit him. And what he found to be even remotely amusing at the current time.
“Billie” he said as he sighed “My mother for some reason unknown even to me, she could never stand Sophia, and she had always put on a front for me. She tolerated her because she knew I loved Sophia, and only wanted me to be happy.”
He added “My father on the hand, he was better at hiding his disapproval of her in front of me then my mother was. I think he believed I could have done so much better for my self then being with Sophia.”
He finished “I now understand why my parents never took to her, my mother especially. I guess I should have trusted them, they obviously saw what I was far too blinded to see, and had never steered me wrong.”
Billie cringed as she admitted “Oh yeah, I know the feeling, or to be more precise I am beginning to know.” She added “Chris, he never liked Orlando. He claimed he was a witless pretty boy.” She sighed wearily, shaking her head as she continued “I would constantly disagree with him, I guess I am the one who is the fool for never listening to him. He had known what he was talking about and had been right the whole bloody time.”
She snorted “Damn, even Kate had always been more then a little reserved with him, she never talked with him in less she needed to. Even she could see it, and she I believe her to be a wonderful judge of character.”
She added “I should have serious been clued in when my friends and family barely tolerated him. They were always more reserved when he was invited to dinner, family functions, and just a casual night out at the local pub or nightclub. My own family and friends obviously saw what I could not.”
She concluded “I was just far too blinded to see what everyone else had. I would have none of it. I never believed that he wanted anyone else besides me, Pathetic isn’t it? How arrogant and naive I must seem to you.”
David shook his head and reassured her gently “No it isn’t Billie, that‘s not arrogance or nativity. Everyone is entitled to believe that they have found their one and only. Everyone feels or wants that at one point. There is nothing pathetic about it.”
He added sadly “I know how you feel, I thought I had found that one person I would spend the rest of my life with in Sophia.” He concluded bitterly “I had been wrong obviously. So you are not the only one who was blinded. Join the club; I know I did as of tonight. My eyes have finally been opened, and fuck me, do I wish they hadn’t been.”
Billie snorted and replied humourlessly “Yes, and what a shitty club it is as well. It is more then a little depressing to say the least, that I am now apart of said club in particular. And yeah, I totally agree, that having our eyes opened to the shit that had been going on around us, it’s not worth the fucking pain and sheer bloody humiliation that come with it.”
She laughed “Hell, not even Chris cheated on me; our marriage was ended on mutual terms. We’re still friends. There are no hard feelings what so ever.” She finished “We both agreed our marriage was no longer working or what we both wanted, so we filed for a divorce. And that I they say was that.”
David suddenly laughed and commented at Billie’s questioning look. “No offence, but I never had you pegged down for someone who would date a guy like Chris Evans, never mind actually marry him.” Billie chuckled and replied “Well, there you go. Besides he and Chris Eccleston are similar in age. I could never be with a guy who is that much older then me again.”
She finished “Maybe a guy in his late twenties or mid thirties is what I need, plus someone I actually have something in common with. Seeing as it obvious my previous choice turned out to be a disaster.” David chuckled and said “So I guess pretty boys and guys who are twenty years older then you are out of the question?”
Billie sighed and answered “Perhaps I would be better off with a guy with your looks and personality and accent, Chris’s humour and wit, and Russell’s intelligence and creative thinking.” She grinned and commented “Now that is the prefect combination, the three men in my life that I can trust without a doubt.” She added with humour “Pity that combination doesn’t exist all in one man.”
David chuckled and shook his head in amusement as he pulled up outside of Billie’s apartment building, and switched off the engine. He grinned and said “Ok. Your looks and personality and accent, with Kate’s compassion and easy going nature, with my mother’s ability to make the worst of situations seem like a walk in the park. That would be my ideal woman. I’m beginning to realise that, realise it perhaps a little too late.”
Billie laughed “Oh god, can you imagine two people who fit the description of our perfect other halves? Wow I would love to see that up close and personal.” David chuckled, nodding in complete agreement, as he pulled the keys out of the ignition.
He then got out of the car and closed his door and waited for Billie to get out and shut her door. He then activated the locking and alarm device on his car with his electronic key ring. Once he was sure his car was secure and he wasn’t going to be robbed, he proceeded to follow Billie.
Billie led him up the path and into her apartment complex. He followed her up the stairs, passing two other apartments before they reached her own. Billie placed the key in the door and turned it before opening the door and then switching off the alarm system. She then allowed David to enter, who closed the door behind him.
As he walked down the hallway he heard Billie scoff in disgust. He walked into the living room just in time to see Billie glowering darkly at a picture of her and Orlando. It had been taken after they had finished filming the Calcium kid together.
He watched her sympathetically as he saw the tears streamed down her face, as she practically ripped the frame apart and forced the picture out of the frame. She then sobbed and proceeded to tear it angrily down the middle.
He slowly walked towards her as the frame and shredded photograph tumbled to the carpeted floor from numb unfeeling things, as she trembled with grief. He took her into his arms. She clung desperately to him as she sobbed painfully, her tears soaking through his shirt, but he could care less about his shirt it could always be cleaned.
He gently kissed her forehead, and then rested his chin on top of her head. He sighed wearily. He could think of nothing except for the trembling form in his arms. He closed his eyes breathing in her scent, as he thought of the fact she currently had a brand new life growing inside of her.
It was an amazing feeling holding someone who had a new life growing inside of them, ever so closely, even if he hadn’t helped to create said life.
