Quarter past eight and the guys were now already fifteen minutes into the trip to their first destination. The traffic had picked up considerably in that fifteen minutes, so it seemed to be taking longer to get out of the city than when they had left the PSC building ... now there's an equation to confuse you. The first vehicle, the black van, was carrying the guys, two make-up artists, another four body-guards and of course the driver. The next vehicle behind was the van carrying bags and other items, and then lastly was the truck carrying the bands equipment. And with all three vehicles trying to get to the Highway while also staying close together was proving to be harder than first anticipated. Whenever the vans had to come to a stop, the truck had to put on the brakes as well, but by the time it did that, they had to move off again ... the guy driving the truck was most certainly looking forward to getting onto the highway.
In the front van, Kai and Reita sat beside the driver, then in the second row Aoi and Ruki, then Uruha and one of the guards beside him, next were two extra guards, and finally in the back row the last guards plus the two make-up girls. Reita was bored with the slow moving trip so he rummaged in his bag on the floor and pulled out a small video camera. Once he'd turned it on and pressed 'Record' he aimed it out the window.
"Yeah this is Reita ... as you can see the trip is going slower than a sleeping snail, so we're stuck in traffic ... uh ... with any luck we'll be on the Highway soon".
The soft chatter that was going on between the make-up girls, guards and the other band members was silenced as they watched Reita cure his boredom. Even Kai smiled to himself as he watched out the front window. Suddenly Reita turned the camera on him.
"This is Kai-chan, our drummer ... he looks just as bored as I am, so care to say anything to the people who'll see this when we get home?"
Kai laughed and covered his eyes from embarrassment.
"You could have waited until at least my hair was styled ... Hello, the Gazette are now about twenty minutes into the first leg of our 'Decomp' Tour. I won't bother about telling you where we are heading because it's already on our website. It actually looks like we're almost on the Highway so things will pick up shortly ... that's all from me for now ... Ja".
Kai saluted to the camera and Reita whipped around to aim the camera further into the van. The guards and make-up girls laughed and waved or held up peace signs. Aoi held both fists up to show he was pumped before pushing his glasses up his nose. Uruha reached between Aoi and Ruki to give a 'rock-on' sign to the camera, but Ruki was slouched in his seat and playing with his phone ... he hadn't noticed the camera.
"And here we have Ruki our singer, oblivious to the world going by".
Reita said as Aoi nudged Ruki in the arm. Ruki looked up from his phone, somewhat confused.
"Huh?"
"Hey welcome back to the Land of the Living. I got bored so I decided to start filming segments of the trip. Care to say a few words for the people at home?"
"Uh ... it's too cold and too early in the morning to be travelling. We should all still be asleep but as we all know, we have fans to please. Lets rock 'n' roll".
With that comment Ruki held up his own 'rock-on' sign before going back to his phone. It must have been around eight-thirty because he pressed something and put the phone to his ear, then turning to stare out his window. Aoi glanced back at Uruha and they smiled to each other - Ruki must have been rather anxious to call her at exactly eight-thirty. It was painfully obvious behind the scenes how much Ruki had changed since he met Mika, though he was no different on the stage. It especially made Reita and Uruha happy for him because of the heartache Ruki had years ago. Seeing Ruki was occupied, Aoi decided to say a few words.
"I'm Aoi, on guitar. Yes the trip is going slow but with the depth of snow we got last night, I think it's safer to go slow anyway. I'm pretty pumped about our first performance tonight, so lets get ready!"
He held both fists up and Reita moved the camera just slightly past Aoi, seeing he noticed Uruha wanted to add his own comments. The other staff was certainly finding it all amusing because they were laughing from their seats near the back.
"Uruha on guitar as well, unlike everyone else I'm a little anxious. Our Tours are getting bigger and bigger, and that results in Okaa-san calling me to say 'where have you been?' ... Don't worry Okaa-san, I miss you heaps".
Then he gave a little wave to the camera and sat back in his seat. Reita laughed and lowered the camera.
"Incidentally, how do you know she'll watch this video?"
"Because I like for my parents and my sisters to see that I'm being productive".
Reita laughed and shook his head slightly, before turning back around towards the front - he sounded like a twelve-year-old, explaining that his parents wanted him to stay productive. Either that or they just missed having him around ... Reita knew that his mother, grandmother and sister missed him when he was busy. Even Kai, Ruki and Aoi missed their families - it was easier for Reita, Uruha and Ruki because they're families still lived in Kanagawa ... but for Aoi and Kai it was harder; Aoi's family were in Mie but Kai's family was even further away in Tokushima. They never showed it but they were always hanging out for some free time to go home for a few days ...

Meanwhile Mika had been at work since eight because it was around that time when the day-carers arrived - then the children started arriving around nine. Of course Kikyo had arrived the same time as Mika so they were now sitting in the small lunchroom together and drinking some tea, also talking about Mika being accepted to Tokyo Uni. Kikyo looked nice that day - a knee length black dress with thin straps, a white turtleneck skivvy under that, black boots like Mika and her hair was pulled into two low ponytails.
The other four carers were all between the ages of thirty and forty so they really only add their own little chat group - basically there was the mothers group, then Mika and Kikyo. Mika hadn't even noticed it was eight-thirty because she was taking to Kikyo, until her phone started jumping around in her coat pocket. Mika jumped and then Kikyo did because Mika startled her.
"Oh my gosh, I really should take my phone of vibrate-alert. It scares me every time".
Mika sighed as she took her phone and looked at the front display - it showed Ruki's name in Katakana. Mika made a short 'oh' sound and held a finger up to Kikyo to say 'Give me a minute' before opening her phone and putting it to her ear. Kikyo smiled and had a sip of her tea - she knew it was Ruki.
"Ohayou, Ruki ... how are you?"
"Bored. Well not badly, just the traffic is bad and it's taking a while to get on the Highway ... oh no wait, we're on it now. Never mind".
Mika giggled and kept listening to him.
"Anyway, we're barely half an hour on the road and I already wish I was where you are. Must be hard to hide things from your parents ... have they noticed if your unusually happy over the last week?"
"Hmm no not really. They probably think I was just being positive about my application to Tokyo Uni".
"Ah yes, the University of Tokyo ... so do you know if you've been accepted yet?"
"Yep, I'll be taking 'Publication & Journalism' as of the start of February next year. The letter arrived at six-thirty this morning apparently because it was waiting for me at breakfast this morning".
"Well they're certainly quick with their deliveries. Awesome, you'll have to practice interviewing me sometime so I can test you on how well you can engage the interviewee".
"Now your making fun of me. I can't interview you for practice, you're my boyfriend".
Mika's heart skipped a beat when she heard Ruki laughing - until she met him it wasn't often that she heard him laugh, so now each time sent chills up her spine.
"It sounds nice to hear you say that, I'll never get tired of hearing it. Okay I'll stop teasing you; I swear it's great you got accepted. But I'll still be able to see you, right?"
"Yes of course. Sadly I'm actually going to leave the day-care and all of these gorgeous children, so I'll be taking my classes during the weekdays. My weeknights and weekends will still remain free ... it'll be just like I'm back at Senior High school, so I'll have timetables and stuff".
"Hmm, you'll have to show me everything when I get back. And you'll have to show me all of the escape routes on the campus so I can come bail you out".
Mika giggled again and nodded even though Ruki couldn't see it.
"Okay, we'll do that. I'd better go now; the children are starting to arrive. You take care and give the fans an awesome show tonight, and don't forget the photos remember?"
"No I won't forget ... in fact Reita is waving a video camera around the van already. He says he wants to 'film segments of the trip'. I think he's just being a plain nuisance".
Mika grinned when she heard a 'Hey!' in the background - it must have been Reita.
"Okay I'll leave you to the rug-rats ... Mika Aishiteru".
"Motto Aishiteru ne".
Mika replied with a big grin on her face that Kikyo laughed at. Mika hesitated in taking the phone away from her ear, and then slowly closing it and giving an exaggerated sigh as she looked at Kikyo. Kikyo smiled and reached over to softly shove her friend's shoulder.
"Don't worry, you'll talk to him again. Don't think about it too much and three months will fly. Think of it this way; focus on waiting for their 'Hyena' single. Then there's only one month left until they come home. That's what I'm doing".
"You really like Uruha-kun ... so how are you going to fill the void until they come back?"
"Hmm I can just stare at his pictures and play his solo's on my guitar".
Mika and Kikyo laughed together on that last comment, until they heard the excited giggles and screams of the kids out in the playroom. It was then they decided it was time to stop angsting over the guys Touring and focus on working. As they went out to greet the children, they were even wondering how Ai, Kira and Megumi were doing at the Superb Mart ... if they were missing their favourite guys already? Kira and Megumi were probably openly admitting they missed Reita and Kai but Ai would only secretly admit she missed Aoi ... she was stubborn like that.
* * *
"Oh my god, YAWN! It's dead here today".
Kira whinged as she intentionally trudged through aisle five with a box of candy-bars. She had the job of restocking the sweets section and the next aisle Megumi was stuck with restocking soft drinks. Megumi heard Kira's bored remark and giggled before going back to setting the bottles on the shelves. It was another slow day, not to mention 'snow day'. It was lightly snowing outside, the clouds looked increasingly menacing, and there were hardly any people shopping that day. If anything it was only people needing one or two things, then they were out again. As usual Ai was at her favourite place - the cash register with a magazine and earphones around her neck.
"Hang in there Kira, I'm sure Reita-kun is thinking of you".
"Yeah right, I bet he's doing something silly right now. Probably annoying the others".
Megumi giggled again and tried to spot Kira through the shelving as she thoughtfully played with her curled hair yet again.
"I wonder where they are now? It's just after eight-thirty, you'd think they would be well on the road by now, right?"
"Oh yeah for sure. I'd imagine things like Tour's would start at the crack of dawn. Come on lets go see Ai, I'm done here".
Megumi stood up straight and quickly placed the last couple of drink bottles on the shelf, then snatched up the box as she began to head for the front of the shop. When Megumi and Kira met at the end of the aisle, they looked out the front window and sighed - the snow was really coming down now and already looked to be covering at least a centimetre of everything it touched. They looked at each other and made anxious faces, praying it wasn't going to be like that wherever the guys went. Then they turned left and in the direction of Ai's register where, as usual when it was a slow day, she was thoroughly reading another Visual Rock magazine. Ai hadn't even noticed Megumi and Kira approaching so Kira decided to give Ai a scare.
"Hey! What are you reading today?"
Kira said into Ai's ear when she was right behind her. Ai jumped and looked back at Kira with a sigh - now this was deja vu. The exact same thing happened to her on the day they met Aoi, only this time Ai knew Aoi wasn't going to come sauntering in the door and talk to her ... though she wished he would.
"Just Shoxx. I'm reading the article about they're Tour, it's going to be really full on".
"Oh?"
Kira said and moved so she could lean over and read the article. It described the complete list of venues, even current listings of what places still had tickets. There was also a notice about the Finale - 'Decomposition Beauty' Finale selling fast!' Kira 'ooo'ed and jumped from one foot to the other nervously.
"We should reserve our Finale tickets real soon then. No way am I missing the Finale, even if people do recognise us. We're not true fans if we don't go!"
"Geez you don't have to tell me twice, I've already decided I'm going. What about you, Megumi?"
Ai glanced around Kira at Megumi who was sitting on the end of the checkout and looking down at the magazine. She looked at Ai and nodded.
"Yeah I don't want to miss it. We should find out if Kikyo and Mika want to order tickets, then we can put our money together and order them at once. Like we did for the 'One Night Stand' gig".
Ai and Kira nodded before looking back at the magazine, in particular the group photo of the guy's latest look - it was most likely the outfits for the latest 'Hyena' video, and Kira was really eyeing Reita's vest. Ai was admiring Aoi's jacket. However Megumi was really swooning over how hot Kai looked in tight black pants and blonde highlights in his fringe. Megumi was so entranced by the picture that she hadn't noticed Ai and Kira calling her name until they had to shout at her. Megumi jumped and stared bug-eyed at her friends. Kira laughed.
"Where did you fly off too? 'The Land of Kai' I imagine. You were staring so fixedly at that picture, we thought you'd burn holes in it".
"Shut up I was just admiring how cool their new outfits are".
Megumi said, blushing furiously and quickly standing up. She adjusted her black V-neck sweater, which Ai and Kira wore as well seeing it was the uniform, and turned to head back up the closest aisle towards the storage area. She felt a distraction was in order; otherwise she'd never stop looking at Kai's picture. So she decided to restock more shelves. Kira laughed as Megumi rushed away and then she looked at Ai.
"I think Megumi is seriously transfixed by Kai-chan. Every time she sees his face, it's like she'd put into a trance or something and she just stares at him endlessly".
"Ah that's what we call 'Falling in Love' Kira".
"Well duh, I realise that. It's just strange; we've never seen her like that before. Not even with the other guys she's dated ..."
Ai nodded in understanding as they both looked back at the picture of the guys. At first they just thought it was Megumi's fan-girl crush on Kai but since the meeting at the café, she'd become even more dopey than usual. Of course Kira and Ai had their own fan-girl crushes on Reita and Aoi but that hadn't resulted in them feeling bubbly twenty-four-seven like Mika, Kikyo and Megumi. Especially when they didn't want to get their hopes up too quickly; about whether Reita and Aoi were attracted to them or not. Finally Kira decided it was time to get back to work even though it was dead.
"Alright, I'd better go help Megumi. Shout if you find something else interesting in there".
Kira said, referring to the magazine, as she waved and walked up the aisle Megumi went through. Ai made a short 'hmm' sound and returned the wave before going back to reading. She thought about what Kira said - 'We've never seen her like that before' - and Ai paused from reading to think about it. She was right, it was strange for Megumi; she was always the careful one when it came to relationships. Kind of like a more 'grown-up' version of Mika; not to say that Mika wasn't smart but Mika was just a little naïve, where as Megumi was just sensible. Then Ai found herself thinking about Kira and Kikyo - Kikyo was the traditional romance, with dates to the park at nighttime during summer when the lights in the trees twinkled. Then there was Kira - who apart from being a little bit curious as to how he'd 'perform in the bedroom', was a 'cuddle up on freezing winter nights with hot drinks' kind of person. Ai had to giggle at the thought of Kira and Reita 'cuddling up' on those winter nights ... until she found herself thinking of Aoi.
Theoretically she thought it was all too good to be true, that there were the five guys and then five of the girls ... like it was just one of those fairy-tail dreams and any moment something would go wrong. Ai didn't deny she really liked Aoi ... he just seemed extremely compatible with her carefree personality, while at the same time they could both be serious when needing to be. Again, not wanting to get her hopes up too quickly, Ai was really considering getting in contact with Aoi after the Tour. Just to see what he'd say to hanging out one weekend when he wasn't busy - in her opinion, a casual first date would give her the general idea if Aoi liked her. At that thought Ai found herself smiling until she realised and swallowed as she looked around, just in case someone was watching. There wasn't so she went back to reading in the deadly silence of the Superb Mart.
* * *
"I spy with my little eye, something beginning with D".
"Driver".
"Shit!"
Reita spat and slouched in his seat. Reita had actually resulted to playing the typical 'I-Spy' game with everyone in the van, and Aoi had just been the latest victim. And as a result, Reita realised that it was a dumb game for a van packed with cranky, tired people. Kai was just sitting quietly with an arm across the windowsill, watching the world go past. The driver, although paying attention to the road, kept smiling to himself at Reita's increasing boredom. Ruki had actually fallen asleep in his seat, with his head leaning against the curtained window. Aoi, having now escaped the game, now shifted in his seat so he could turn and chat with Uruha and one of the guards he was sitting next too. The other three guards and the two make-up girls were also in their own little chat-group ...
... this was how slow the trip was going.
"How much further is it?"
Kai asked the driver, before letting out a little yawn. The driver leaned forward to squint out the windscreen, as they were about to drive under a Highway sign.
"Oh yes, we're almost there. We'll be turning off at the next Exit. This is your first stop".
After the driver said that, everyone in the van stopped talking and looked up - in case you hadn't noticed, that was a sign they couldn't wait to get there. At that very moment Ruki decided it was time to wake-up and he pushed both hands underneath his sunglasses to rub his face as he sat up. He pulled his glasses off and looked around, still half asleep.
" ...what's going on, where are we?"
He said in a raspy voice, much to Aoi and Uruha's amusement. Uruha spoke first.
"Hey good morning, glad you could join us. Our driver just said we'll be arriving at the first venue soon".
"Good, I need a smoke".
Ruki said in the raspy voice, as he leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees, then rubbing his face again. Aoi gave him a light pat on the shoulder - he knew how Ruki felt. Even though it was only just coming onto half past eleven, in all that time the convey of vans and truck trailing behind hadn't stopped - so that meant the smokers had to wait. Kai turned around in his seat to smile at his fellow band mates, leaning his head against his headrest.
"This is it guys, our first stop. Then up until Christmas Eve we'll be on the move twenty-four-seven".
"Great, then Christmas Holidays and back to work after New Years. Aren't we lucky?"
Aoi said sarcastically, and Kai looked at him sympathetically.
"I know we all want to hang around with the girls but we can't. We'll have a big gap of time between the first part of our tour and the release of Hyena ... we have to try and spend that time creatively. If we want this album to come out on the deadline, we've gotta get right on it".
Reita looked at Kai and then back at the road, Aoi nodded sadly, Ruki sat back in his seat and opened the curtain of his window and Uruha looked down at the floor. They hated to admit it but Kai was right - they couldn't let the fans down; even though their next album wasn't officially announced yet, surely the fans were eagerly waiting for any sign. Kai continued.
"Then we've got at least a week of appearances at CD shops for signings with fans ... then we've got until the start of March to get more recording time in, before we're off on the second half of the Tour. Not to mention the Grand Finale".
Just then the van seemed to slow down gradually and everyone perked up to look out the windows - they had finally arrived at the first venue. Reita, Aoi, Ruki, Uruha and at least three of the guards were itching to have their smoke-break. While the driver slowly moved around to the back of the venue, followed closely by the other van and truck, Kai took this time to finish the pep talk to his band mates.
"Now I don't know about you, but I intend to give this Tour all I've got and more. Wouldn't you like the girls to be proud of you? I'd sure like Megumi-chan to be proud of me".
Uruha, Ruki, Aoi and Reita looked at Kai - so he finally revealed, in a way, that he liked Megumi. They smiled to each other and then at Kai - okay, they were willing to give it their all, just as much as Kai. Then the band was brought out of their sentimental moment by the sudden stop of the van. In looking around they realised it was now time to get out, so with Aoi being the closest to the side door he reached across to slide it open. He got out first, followed by Ruki, Uruha, the four guards and the two make-up girls. The driver got out at the same time as Kai and Reita almost fell out of the door as he followed Kai ... he was desperate to get out.
The guards headed straight for the back entrance of the venue to find out what they were supposed to be doing for that night, while the two girls went to the second van to retrieve their make-up cases. Before the guys had to go inside and familiarise themselves with the stage, they took a moment to watch as the equipment truck was actually backing up to park along side the two vans. That way the staff could easily carry equipment too and from the venue. Uruha pushed his hands into his jacket pockets and squinted up at the truck as it slowly backed past them.
"These poor people have a whole month of doing this, then another month for the second half of the Tour. You'd think someone would hurry up and invent teleporters or something".
"Don't be stupid".
Aoi said, shoving his fellow guitarist in the arm, almost causing him to over balance onto the cold ground, which was steaming from the sun melting the thin layer of snow. Uruha laughed and regained his balance. Reita, Kai and Ruki were beside Aoi and also watching the truck. Then Ruki quickly whipped out his cell-phone and took a quick photo. Kai saw the phone from the corner of his eye and just saw Ruki closing his phone again.
"Is that to show Mika-chan?"
"Oh yeah, but for the other girls as well. I promised Mika I'd take photos".
Then before they had to go inside, Ruki walked away to an open-air area near the back entrance and pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his jacket pocket. Reita, Aoi and Uruha quickly joined him, digging around in their pockets for their own cigarette packs. Kai was still standing and watching the truck until it finally stopped. He then glanced around when he realised the other guys weren't with him; he found them already getting stuck into their nicotine-fix. Kai smirked and shook his head as he walked over to the circle.
"I see your set for the next few minutes so I'll go inside first to see how everything looks".
"Have fun!"
All four of them called to Kai as the drummer left his band mates to their smokes - they didn't feel the least bit interested in getting started until they'd had their cigarette. So it had officially started ... the first performance was only a matter of hours away, with another million to go before Christmas break. For the whole month there wouldn't be much time to talk about anything else except where they had to stand on the stage or what the next set-list was going to comprise of. Mostly Ruki was curious about when he would get to call Mika next - he promised her once a week, so that probably meant every Monday morning, then her parents wouldn't notice. Suddenly, Ruki took his phone again and opened it to take a quick photo of Uruha, Reita and Aoi looking very attractive with cigarettes hanging from their mouths. Ruki laughed at the photo ... Kikyo, Kira and Ai would certainly like that one.

NOTES:
1) Reita's camera: Who knows if the guys did their own filming of the Tour but lets just say they do in my story lol
2) The guys families: We don't know if their families still live in the places they were born but because it can't be confirmed, I will just say they do. It'll be significant in the future, I promise
3) Uni of Tokyo: I chose this one because it's close to Mika to get too lol although I don't know if this particular Uni has 'Publication & Journalism' like Mika is doing, but lets pretend they do have it
4) Tour schedule: I'd imagine inbetween part 1 and part 2 of their Decomp Tour the guys would have started composing for their Stacked Rubbish album, then continued after the Grand Finale
