"Strings..." He squatted down, his eyes running restlessly over the small packets hanging off the small metal hooks in the back of the music store. Outside the small shop, the sound of Tokyo's traffic was deafening in the early evening rush. Inside, some lame ass song was droning on in the background -
It was getting on his nerves...
Damn...
A long-fingered hand reached down, blocking his view, snagged three packs of acoustic strings and then disappeared. Hide-zou's eyes, drawn subconsciously to the tattoos, blinked twice before realizing that the strings he needed were right in front of him. Cursing softly, he snagged six and straightened hastily - and looked down the tiny aisle as the back of a tall, slim young man disappeared around the corner of the shelving.
Rubbing his forehead, trying to ignore the small headache forming behind his eyes, Hide-zou sighed. Glancing out the window, the electric guitarist for D couldn't help but groan at the sight of the greyness of the street - and the rain that was starting to spatter against the glass. Buisness men were jogging past with their briefcases on their heads as they tried to find shelter from the steadily increasing downpour.
Damn...
Somewhere, thunder rumbled. Hide-zou sighed and made his way to the front counter. At least he he had his car. A quick run back to his apartment (if traffic allowed), and he'd be back in the comfort of his home and the silences.
For once the idea of the silences didn't weight so heavily on his mind. It would be a welcome change...
And I need some medication for this headache...
He took his place behind the young tattooed guitarist who was cheerfully whistling and bobbing his head. Hide-zou stared at the tall, lanky young man. No iPod or player in sight.
At least someone is cheerful today, Hide-zou thought morosely, eyeing the incompetent salesperson at the cashier.
The cheerful guitarist winked at Hide-zou who couldn't help but grin at the sight of the cocky grin and the twinkling eyes. Between guessing the age of the guitarist in front of him, eyeing the guitar magazines, pricing a keyboard stashed against the left side of the counter and tapping his foot in rhythm to D's newest beat, Hide-zou found that the minutes passed by quickly. The young man's purchase took only a matter of minutes, and before long, he too was handing over yen for his new strings and heading out the door.
Outside, the rain was still coming down heavily. People huddled on the small stoops staring up anxiously. Hide-zou was glad that he had brought along the car - and felt mildly sorry for the young man who was clutching his plastic bag close, hunching under the downpour.
Waiting for a pickup, I guess... I hope his ride comes soon... Not that I care...
Hide-zou bit his lip and shook his head. Then, quickly, he made a dash through the ran to the parking lot, unlocking his car door before he got there and jumped in. There was dampness all over his back and hair, but for the most part he was dry.
Pulling expertly out of his parking spot, the guitarist wheeled the car around and nudged his way out of the lot into the street. The tall lanky tatooed man was still there, looking anxious. Thunder rumbled closer, and it seemed as though he were gesturing -
Ah. On the phone. And looking a little troubled...
With a sigh, Hide-zou slowed down, ignoring the honks of people behind him. Rolling down the window, he leaned forward and shouted at the engaging stranger.
I don't know why I'm doing this but -
"Wanna ride?"
"Sure!" yelled the young man back over the downpour, shut his cell phone and jumped in the car.
The window rolled up as the car edged back into the traffic, the silence in the car rather awkward. The young stranger was trying to find a comfortable spot on the leather seat, his shoes squelching ominously on the mat below his feet. Running his hand through his longish hair which looked wild and matted under his cap, the hitchhiker sighed, looking apologetically.
"Sorry... I'm... making it all wet in here..." He shifted and squelched again.
Hide-zou shrugged with an answering grin.
"It's okay. It'll dry." He winked. "Give me your number and I'll send you the cleaning bill."
"If that's a pickup line, it's the worst one I've had before."
The two young men laughed. Hide-zou relaxed, feeling the headache ebb away carefully. He hesitated. Then, carefully...
"The name's 'Zou."
"Mivi."
"Cool."
An awkward silence ensued.
Mivi broke the silence, with a small cough.
"So... um... yeah..."
Hide-zou blinked at the road stupidly, then blushed a little.
"About -" Mivi began.
"I'm sorry -" Hide-zou said at the same time.
"Sorry," the tattooed young man said.
"No, I'm sorry. You go first."
"No, you. It was nothing."
"You started first -"
"No. No. It's no matter."
Another silence.
"I forgot to ask you where you wanted to go," Hide-zou blushed a little redder with embarrassment.
Mivi blinked and then realized that they were actually just going around the block for the fourth time.
"Oh. Sorry. Well... It's the Ueno Park. I was supposed to go there..." He seemed a little hesitant as he stared up at the swollen sky, the roiling black clouds, the occasion flash of lightning accompanied by thunder and the fat raindrops that pelted Hide-zou's window shield. "But I dunno..."
He checked his cellphone and shook his head with a mildly annoyed sigh.
"We can round there," Hide-zou offered easily. "If it doesn't pan out, I can just drop you off home. Which is fine by me."
"It's okay?" asked Mivi. "I don't want to waste your time..."
"Got lots of time to waste. Not that it's a waste with you..." winked Hide-zou.
Mivi smiled back tentatively, then exhaled and leaned back.
"I only wish I had a towel," Hide-zou sighed.
"Yeah... your seat is like..."
"For you." Hide-zou shook his head as his companion tried to brush the water droplets off the leather. "Catching a cold isn't so good -"
Mivi sighed.
"I should have thought before I left the store..."
"You didn't know your ride would let you down."
The men sat there in thoughtful silence. Hide-zou, as he turned a corner gracefully, let the steering wheel pass through his fingers. He wondered what his new friend was doing in Ueno Park.
Not that it's any of my buisness... But it's a shame... He's kinda...
D's electric guitarist blinked with mild suprise at the direction of this thoughts.
I was just... thinking he was cute...
The sound of some corny pop song coming from the radio startled him out of his thoughts.
SMAP!
And if it that wasn't bad enough - the young man was yodeling with the famous song. Air guitaring in the front seat and singing off key in a very mocking tone. Some of the lyrics ended up warped - giving the innocuous lyrics a rather perverted meaning.
After a few moments the two men's quiet chuckles were breaking out into loud guffaws. Hide-zou caught himself giggling. Which made Mivi laugh even more. The two men ended up trying to finish the song together, belting it out rather badly. Mivi ended up doing an impromptu drum solo on the dashboard of the car. Swaying back and forth, the two men ended the song. Mivi's whimsical interest turned to the decorations hanging from the rearview mirror - and the radio was switched off, leaving both men breathless and feeling more cheerful.
"You can sing really well," complimented Hide-zou.
"I'm more of a guitarist. Acoustic, mainly," shrugged Mivi, modestly. "You're not too bad yourself," he added.
"Singing is nice. But I enjoy the guitar..."
"Been doing it long?"
"Quite a bit."
"Same here."
"Solo?" asked Hide-zou.
"Yeah. You?"
"Band."
"Ah."
"But it's good. I like it alot."
Ueno Park was in sight now. The two men sobered up - realizing that they would be parting ways again. Still... the clouds gave Hide-zou hope.
The guitarist checked himself.
Hope? I -
Hide-zou couldn't understand his ambivalent feelings. A part of him wanted peace and quiet. But another part of him welcomed the randomness and cheerfulness of Mivi. There was something about the young guitarist that was immensely fun....
It would have been nice to know his number or address... but it's so awkward...
"It's still raining..." Mivi said pensively, checking his cell again.
"Check your email," suggested Hide-zou.
"I did..."
They were pulling into an empty parking space now. Sitting there, engine idling, they sat there uncertainly. The summer storm was still in fine form. Mivi, after a moment, shifted.
"I'll wait here for ten minutes," Hide-zou suggested after a moment. "If you can't find your friends, then, well, I'll be here to drop you off wherever else you need to go. How's that?"
"Okay..." Mivi nodded, clutched his plastic bag close and darted out into the storm.
Three minutes past.
Five minutes past.
Ten minutes past.
Hide-zou restarted the car reluctantly, peering out into the downpour. The parking lot still remained empty... Desolate. And as far as the eye could see, the park seemed to be empty. Then, the familiar slim figure of Mivi materialized in the downpour. The door jerked open and a completely wet Mivi jumped in, spraying Hide-zou and the interior of his beloved car with water.
Trying to hide a wince, Hide-zou smiled in greeting.
"Not there?"
"No. The only idiot there was me." Mivi sighed and pulled a damp cellphone out of a damp pocket and checked his email again, as Hide-zou pulled out of the parking lot.
"Finally!" Mivi exclaimed explosively.
"What?"
"Something!"
"An email?"
"A text."
"And?"
"It's a no go."
"Obviously," Hide-zou peered out of the windowshield apprehensively, his windshield wipers working double time to keep up with the rain.
"I'm not too happy about this setup." Mivi frowned, any trace of his lacksadaisical attitude disappearing as he tapped out a message on his phone.
"I wouldn't be either. Some friend to stand you up."
"Yeah..."
Once again, Hide-zou found himself aimlessly driving around until Mivi's texting was done. When the cellphone was once again pocketed, Hide-zou cocked an eyebrow at Mivi. For a moment, the tattooed guitarist contemplated his squelching shoes and then sighed.
"Any place next?" grinned the driver.
"So you're my chauffeur now?" Mivi asked with a laugh.
"The most reliable one you could have."
"Hm. Boasting about it already?"
"I'm a truthful man."
"I see..."
Both men stifled laughter as they thought about what to do next.
"My place is rather far from here," Mivi admitted slowly.
"Mine's pretty close. Fifteen minutes if traffic is with us."
"Better make it your place then. I can get a ride to work tomorrow - they'll pick me up from your place. If you don't mind..."
"No. Not at all," replied Hide-zou, with a shrug. "It'll be nice to have company. Although, I'm afraid that I'm really fond of my bed... so... it'll be the sofa for you."
"I can sleep anywhere," declared Mivi.
"Is that so?"
"I've done bathtub before even."
"Why?"
"Why bathtub?"
"Yeah."
Mivi made a face. "I thought I'd just try it out to see what it's like."
Hide-zou laughed and swung off onto a side road which eventually brought them to his apartment block. Driving carefully into the underground parkinglot, Hide-zou found his spot and shut off the car. Mivi squelched all the way from the car to the apartment - much to the guard and the caretaker's disapproval. Once alone in Hide-zou's livingroom-kitchenette, the two young men burst into laughter.
Mivi looked around approvingly, appraising the comfy, well-worn furniture. The small computer in the corner. The tiny blue and white kitchen. Hide-zou was already putting water onto boil.
"There's a shower beside the bedroom. Help yourself!" called Hide-zou. "And towels below the sink."
"Thanks!" called back Mivi.
Five minutes later the shower was running and Hide-zou rummaged through his closet biting his lip. Dressing Mivi would be hard since the guitarist was rather taller than he. After a moment, he tossed a t-shirt and some shorts onto the bed, hoping they would fit.
Disappearing into the kitchen, Hide-zou poured the now boiling water into a battered teapot. After a moments hesitation, he rummaged in his cupboard and, finding nothing but ramen, started a pot to make soup for his new friend.
I hope ramen is okay...
Turning around with two cups in hand and a teapot, Hide-zou nearly dropped the hot drink. All of his attention focussed suddenly on his guest's back. It was entirely tattooed with kanji. After a moment, Hide-zou recognized a few of the sentences.
A sutra...
Cocking his head, wetting his lips, he coughed - causing Mivi to turn around. The young guitarist seemed a little lost as he clutched Hide-zou's black towel around his skinny hips. Trying to tear his eyes away from the attractive young man, Hide-zou found his voice.
"Your.......... um... clothes... will need to be dried... so - so - um... I have some things laid out for you on my bed that you can try on."
Mivi blushed at Hide-zou's openly admiring stare.
"Th-thanks."
Hide-zou set down the tea hurriedly and scuttled back into the kitchen, hoping that his red face could be attributed to bending over the soup pot and not the fact that his mind was very much replaying Mivi's physique. When he emerged, balancing the soup, two bowls and spoons, Hide-zou was relieved to find Mivi in the clothing. The shirt was a little too small... and the shorts a little too short... but Hide-zou couldn't complain about that. Much.
No. Not at all... he thought with a small smile.
Mivi turned on the TV and they sat there companionably, flipping through the channels and laughing at some of the commercials. After clearing the food away, Hide-zou stretched out with a sigh.
"Long day?" Mivi asked sympathetically. He looked like a small boy caught stealing cookies from his mother's jar. Guilty. "I must have really put you out..."
"No. Not really," Hide-zou smiled, without thinking, he poked the other's cheek. "It was a good distraction."
"I like your guitars," Mivi said picking up one. "Oh! Two strings are snapped..."
Hide-zou lazily tossed his bag over.
"Practice was hard today. I needed extras so..."
"So you met me!" Mivi grinned and began to replace the strings. After a few moments, he began to tune the instrument expertly. Hide-zou watched the slim fingers fly over the acoustic guitar. The toughly muscled fingers belying years of experience.
So I guess he's more than just a pretty face.
"It's a nice guitar. I thought you said you played electric though..."
Hide-zou leaned over the couch and drew out his baby. The red guitar he'd gotten the past year.
"This one? Yes..." He popped open the case, revealing the smooth lines of his guitar. "But... the tenants on either side of me complain when I play too loudly so..." He shrugged. "I have to wait until they go to work to play..."
"You practice alot then?"
"Have to," replied Hide-zou succinctly, shutting the case with a hard snap.
He sighed and rubbed his forehead.
"It's been challenging for all of us. So I shouldn't complain. But sometimes you feel like things just take twice the time it should for you... and... well... you get this sick feeling that maybe you aren't cut out for the job as you thought you were a year ago..."
Mivi looked sympathetically at his new friend and leaned over to squeeze 'Zou on the shoulder.
"Well... being on a plateau is hard... but I can assure you that if you keep working on it - the seemingly impossible will happen."
Hide-zou looked skeptical but he nodded.
"What's the piece anyways?" Mivi offered the guitar he'd been idly jamming on to its rightful owner.
Hide-zou edged the guitar under his arm and began the familiar chords. At first, he felt stiff under his audience. Perhaps it was the obvious expertise of his friend... or the fact he wanted to impress... but as he played, he felt more tense than usual. He looked down at his clumsy fingers and hated himself more than usual.
The guitarist suddenly remembered the day before...
"You should be practicing this more often-"
"I am," muttered Hide-zou. "As much as anyone here..."
Ruiza, Hiroki and Tsunehito shifted as Asagi's eyebrows knitted slightly together showing mild disapproval.
"If we're going to succeed, you'll have to do harder. That is all," the vocalist turned away.
Hide-zou bit back his sudden anger and checked his words. He wanted to scream at the band leader. He wanted to say, "Do you think I don't care? Do you know what life has been like? Do you think you're the only one who is stressing out over going major?"
But he had said nothing.
Looking down, Hide-zou blinked, coming out of his thoughts - a hand was lightly resting on his, stilling the unwieldy notes. Then Mivi's other hand rose, his fingers gently raising Hide-zou's chin.
"Zou-kun..." Mivi hesitated and then smiled, leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on the guitarist's lips. "Relax and enjoy the music."
At first, Hide-zou seemed to freeze, and then he did relax - into Mivi's lips. Things got a little more heated - and the guitar disappeared from Hide-zou's lap, allowing him to draw closer to Mivi. When they drew back, both found themselves breathless. But, before awkwardness could set in, Mivi pulled his rescuer closer, running his hands over Hide-zou's collared shirt, slowly unbuttoning it. They started to kiss again, realizing that any conversational attempt to rationalize this would be doomed to failure. Hide-zou's hands had already found their way up Mivi's shirt. With gentle touches, desire awoke in the two guitarists. The silence of the small apartment, the gentle rumblings of the receding thunderstorm and the now gentle, regular fall of rain soothed them. Before they knew it, their shirts were gone.
Mivi positioned himself over D's electric guitarist, and leaned in for another kiss. Brushing back Hide-zou's brown-red hair, he whispered, "Trust me."
Hide-zou nodded and then gasped as Mivi ground his groin intimately against his own trapped erection. Their eyes met in understanding and approval.
"Of course I do," whispered Hide-zou huskily, and began to neck Mivi passionately.
Unbuckling Hide-zou's pants quickly, Mivi released the guitarists straining erection. After kissing his way slowly down Hide-zou's neck and then chest, Mivi paid special attention to Hide-zou's now taut nipples. His expert tongue traced a path down Hide-zou's chest and then lowered to the man's length. Taking Hide-zou's erection into his mouth, his tongue slid along - up and down and around, until Hide-zou's hips bucked with the hot pleasure of Mivi's mouth.
"Mi-mi-mivi!" gasped Hide-zou.
Mivi pulled away, his grin wicked with glee.
"Not good?"
"Ve-ve-very good.... But..."
The playful Mivi cocked his head.
"You want to go all the way... Here. Now?"
Hide-zou propped himself up on his elbows and looked up, suddenly uncertain. Gnawing at his lip, he blushed red as he realized his position. One leg off the couch, pants down to his knee, shirt pulled back off his shoulders. He started as a pair of hot lips suckled on his neck, reviving his flagging erection slowly. He moaned and shifted trying to pull Mivi closer.
"Where's the lube?" whispered Mivi, seductively.
"Bathroom," Hide-zou replied succinctly.
For a moment, Mivi's warmth withdrew, giving Hide-zou enough time to pull of his pants all the way, freeing his legs. But before he could actually get himself up, Mivi was bouncing back into the room - this time without his shorts. Pinning Hide-zou down easily, the young guitarist ground his hips against excited man beneath him. Kissing passionately, they focussed on feeling each other through Mivi's cotton underpants - but not for long. There was no hesitation on Mivi's part this time as he fondled Hide-zou's erection, letting his colorful nails scrape along the tender skin. Hide-zou just managed to focus on fondling Mivi's pert ass, his own nails digging into Mivi's tender skin as the guitarist's touches drowned him in heady feelings.
When Mivi's fingers slipped experimentally into Hide-zou to prepare his entrance, Hide-zou bucked, crying out to hurry. Running his other hand over the adorably scrunched up face of Hide-zou, Mivi chuckled lightly. Leaning forward, he whispered, "Ready?"
"Fuck me I'm ready!" panted Hide-zou, his hands pulling away from between them - leaving Mivi long and hard.
Coating his fingers liberally with lube, Mivi finished the preperations.
"You asked for it," panted Mivi, throwing Hide-zou's legs over his shoulders and positioning himself carefully.
Slowly and carefully, he entered Hide-zou enjoying the man's tight warmth. The sharp cries of pain and pleasure mixing together in a perfect medly. Once he was totally sheathed, he waited a minute before moving. Hide-zou was so tight, Mivi wondered how he was going to hold it together.
"Relax, love," he whispered.
"Go..." begged the guitarist.
His laughter-filled voice, catching with passion, whispered endearments as the two men found a hard but fulfilling rhythm. One of Mivi's hands found Hide-zou's erection and began to pump it in time. The couch creaked threateningly - but both men couldn't stop as the burning sensation flowing between them swelled unabated. When Mivi hit Hide-zou's prostate, the guitarist arched back, forcing Mivi even deeper in, his anus contracting in the most pleasurable way around the soloist.
The sound of panting and flesh meeting flesh filled the small room. To the two men, their lovemaking drowned out the patter of light rain.
Mivi came first and Hide-zou followed soon after, spurting over his lover's hand.
For a moment, they lay there - then Mivi withdrew carefully. His eyes were gentle with sated desire. Hide-zou looked rather sleepy.
"Shower?" asked Mivi.
"Mhm..." Hide-zou moaned in contentment.
Helping his new friend off the couch, Mivi winced sympathetically as he helped his lover to the shower.
"Hurts?"
"Yeah... just a little..."
"Sorry. I'm causing you so much trouble today..."
Hide-zou snorted.
"I could do with a bit more trouble then..."
"Really?" asked Mivi. He cocked his head and then a grin spread across his face.
"I can't lie to you."
"YAYYYY!!!! Then it's a done deal! A BUBBLE BATH!"
"Ow! Ow!" Hide-zou hissed as he was shoved unceremoniously into the bath. "Hot! Hot!"
Once the water was the right temperature, Mivi with out ceremony jumped in with a great splash (sloshing bathwater everywhere). Now rather squished with Mivi in the small bath, Hide-zou couldn't help but brace himself for the spray. But he was smiling.
"You're smiling now," Mivi poked Hide-zou's cheeks. "That's a good sign."
"Mhm... Just thinking..."
"About what?" asked Mivi, his arms wrapped around his skinny knees, he looked like an overgrown kid.
"How you're always splashing me with water."
"Your car... you..."
"It's funny," chuckled Hide-zou dryly.
Mivi squirted water at Hide-zou.
"Hey!"
In the end, more water ended up on the floor than in the bathtub. Leaving the bathroom almost dry, both still chuckling, the two men curled up on the couch and and watched the rain slowly stop. The setting sun was slipping behind the cityscape... with the clear sky a sure promise of good weather for the morrow.
"This was fun," Hide-zou murmured.
"Yep!" Mivi grinned, burying his face in Hide-zou's hair which was now sticking up every which way.
"The best fun I've had in a long time!"
"Same here."
"I'm glad."
"So am I," agreed Hide-zou, closing his eyes sleepily.
-
The next day, Mivi woke up with a sore neck. Hide-zou woke up with a sore back. But both slipped out of the apartments giggling and chuckling. Hide-zou waited with his car outside the apartment building - until Mivi's ride showed up. Slinging his arm around Hide-zou's shoulders in a sideways hug, Mivi whispered:
"Let's do it again. I can always do with some play time. No strings attached."
"Then I'm your man, as always."
Mivi nodded, slipping a piece of paper into Hide-zou's shirt pocket. He grinned and walked away whistling some jaunty. Just as he reached the car door, Mivi hesitated and turned around.
"Hey, Zou-kun!"
"Yeah."
"Today. Relax. Enjoy the music. You'll find the answer you seek if you remember why you started playing to begin with. My advice from one expert to another, 'kay?"
"Sure."
"Promise me you'll enjoy the music first."
"I promise."
"Good. Call me. Jaa!"
Hide-zou regretfully watched Mivi climb in the back. When the car pulled out, he realized that he was already missing his vivacious companion. Then Zou-kun sighed, shrugged and smiled to himself at the memory of Mivi's face when he came.
He'll be back...
Carefully he got into his car (the guitar already stowed away safely in the trunk), and thoughtfully he drove into work. Once in the studio, gingerly slinging on his guitar and sorting his music, Hide-zou waited for the rest's arrival and practiced.
I should be shitting my pants. Not practicing last night... Someone's gonna be displeased...
But then, he remembered Mivi.
Relax. Enjoy the music.
The doorknob turned. In trooped the rest of D. They blinked at the sight of Hide-zou there, the echoes of his guitar chord still echoing around the room. Ruiza grinned and high-fived his bandmate. Tsunehito grinned ruefully.
"Looking sharp today, Hide-zou," nodded Hiroki with a wink.
"Hm. Always doing my best," saluted Hide-zou and then winced.
"You hurt your back?" Ruiza asked, concern written all over his gentle face. "I hope you've not been overdoing your gym excercise. I think you're fit enough as it is -"
"No. It's good."
Hide-zou blinked at a muffled snort from Asagi.
"It better be," smiled the vocalist serenely. "I expect the best sounds from all of us today."
"You will," promised Hide-zou.
And he did.
